“Days fade into a watercolour blur. Memories swim and haunt you”
10 moons|shc warrior|female
Purrks: Dreamwalker
Dark grey with white swirls and dots with deep blue eyes

Hello! Thank you for taking time and looking over my application!
________

ShimmeringSmoke is a dark grey cat with white swirls and white dots. She has deep ocean blue eyes.

________

”Psh! What's wrong with her? “Everything….

Her parents weren't really… the best. Neglected and not properly cared for her whole life. Emotionally abused, leaving her insecure. Her parents never really cared for her at all. No comfort, no support, no love. Well, then Starry came along. A little sibling. She mostly had to care for them. Even if she was busy with training, they needed love and care. So, that's what she gave them!
_____
”Was I meant to feel happy that my life was just about to change?

Starrykit. Poor thing. She had another younger sibling. Wispykit. Frail and unable to live, they died a day after birth. PantherBlossom got mad and blamed Starry for the death. Shaking and out of fear, Shimmering tried to protect Starry and raised her voice. That was a mistake. Her lesson would stay with her forever. A ripped ear, and a scar on her hind leg. Life was hard. She was jumpy and cared too much of what others think.

__________
Anxiety creeps inside of me, makes it hard to breath.”

Her mental health got rocky. Shaky and unfocused. It was hard. But, she fought. She fought her demons. She fought her anxiety. She fought to get better. ShimmeringSmokestarted to get better, but it was still hard. She hide her real emotions and tried to please everyone. She didnt know herself. Didnt know what she was. Who she was.

”Everything I've ever loved decayed over the years.”

It's true. Her parents made Starry worse. Making them unsecured. She was done. Starry wasn't getting any better and was struggling with mental health when they were a kit. She didn't want Starry to go through what she did. One day, her parents went missing. They were nowhere. She was a bit happy. It was nice. No yelling.
______
”Tell me who I am, guess I don't have a choice.

Pushed around her whole life, told to do this, do that, she didn't know herself. She was heartless. She felt lifeless. When her parents disappeared, she felt like she had half of a heart. It was a start. But her other half was missing. What was it?
_________

Roleplay examples:

A cool breeze made its way into the medicine den, making her shiver. It also brought another hurt cat. She welcomed them in and motioned for them to come closer. "I don't bite." The cat came closer so she started to check them out. A few tiny cuts that were bleeding

BACKSTORY

His parents were outsiders who joined the clan from a rogue life, mainly seeking the shelter and ease of living as they had their litter. Truly, they hated the clans, always had…and it was a mystery as to why that was the only refuge they decided to seek. Now…he could hardly call the cat that birthed him his mother. [Name] was nowhere near the kind, loving mothers that he saw other kits blessed with. She was after an easy life with her kits…well…kit. Singular, because SHE got rid of the rest. His sorry excuse for a mother…she killed them. Why couldn’t it have been him? Why couldn’t he be blessed with a better life? Instead…his mother convinced DarkPaw he was a monster. She tainted his mind. He had to watch his siblings DIE. She told everyone that some predator got it…took them. She told little DarkKit that it was his fault. That his claws killed his littermates in his sleep because he has a minister in him. And of course, mother knows best. She’s just ‘protecting’ him, huh in reality she’s using the lies she fed him to manipulate and control his life. No cat can know what he did…only mama knew. If he ever did anything wrong when she tried training him when he was much too young, she’d threaten him. To hurt him…or to tell everyone he was a killer. She made him feel worthless. She beat him down on the daily…and the worst part? He believe it. He was worthless.
As he got older everything got worse. She pushed him further, past his exhaustion. Any moment the clan was inconvenienced? It was his own fault somehow. The more he grew and tried getting away from mother?…The more she’d hurt him. She held him close through blackmail and guilt. Then…he got to the age he could be an apprentice and…peace. He didn’t have to worry about being stuck with her anymore…because she was dead. She got killed in some fight or something…he didn’t care. He was free, he could finally breath. Everything still hung with him…it always will. He’ll always have this cursed voice in his head, telling him horrible horrible things. But he also had that sense of freedom.

________________________________________

PERSONALITY

DarkPaw is a young cat whose past is weighted with painful memories, causing him to feel like an outcast even within his own clan. He’s an apprentice who quietly fears being seen as less than the others, putting up walls to hide his true self. Always fidgeting, his paws never quite seem to be still, and his tail betrays the restlessness in his mind. DarkPaw often zones out, lost in thoughts, or seems to retreat into himself. He’s deeply anxious that others will see him for what he believes he truly is: a monster. His mother’s death has freed him from the weight of her manipulation, but her voice still echoes in his head, reminding him of his supposed wrongdoings. Despite this, there is a quiet part of him that hopes to redeem himself, to heal others and perhaps, in some way, redemption for his ’supposed’ past sins.
He doesn’t trust many around him, but there’s a tenderness to his nature, an internal, clawing desire to care for others in ways he was never cared for. He keeps this desire hidden, afraid it might make him more vulnerable to the judgment he fears, the attention and gossiping mutters. DarkPaw is awkward but earnest in his attempts to form connections. He often second-guesses what he says or does around others, fearing rejection, but he keeps trying because he craves belonging among his peers—his clan. DarkPaw watches how his peers behave and tries to emulate them, though his efforts often come off as a bit stiff or unnatural. For instance, he might laugh too loudly at a joke or over-apologize for a minor mistake. When he’s alone, he will reflect on social situations from earlier in the day or such and chastise himself for perceived missteps, even if others didn’t notice.
However, DarkPaw has a natural empathy that shines through when he interacts with others. Even if he’s unsure of himself, he notices when someone else is upset or struggling and tries to offer quiet support, like sitting beside them or fetching something they need.
As a medicine cat apprentice, he feels the weight of expectation to be strong and composed, and yet he is so afraid of failing that it sometimes breaks him down mentally. If he forms bonds with others, his feelings will be complicated, laced with doubt and a fear of being hurt. He has a lot of work to do on himself before he can truly accept love and kindness from others, or is that part of him dead and boarded up?
Despite his fears, DarkPaw seeks solace in herbs and the healing arts. The act of healing gives him purpose, a way to repent for the guilt that clings to his soul. Since he supposedly hurt…could he take the burden away by helping so many more cats?

Above all else, DarkPaw holds ShadowClan as his top priority, a life-rule that will only further root in him if/when he’s promoted to healer. Despite his personal struggles, he views his service to the clan as both a duty and a form of redemption. He would willingly sacrifice his own comfort, safety, and even relationships to ensure the well-being of his clanmates. This deep-rooted loyalty drives him to push himself harder than most, sometimes to the danger of his own health. DarkPaw’s dedication can occasionally come across as cold or detached, especially when he makes difficult decisions that prioritize the clan over individual feelings. However, his actions stem from a profound belief that ShadowClan's survival and strength must come before anything else. Over time, this sense of purpose might help him find balance, turning his self-perceived flaws into strengths that allow him to protect and heal his clan.

Key Traits: Awkward, Empathetic, Good Listener (Especially to Instructions), Overthinker, Loyal

________________________________________

WHY HEALING?

For DarkPaw, the path of healing is one of both solace and redemption. Having grown up in a toxic environment where love and care were scarce, he never knew what it felt like to be nurtured. His mother’s manipulation and abuse left deep scars on his sense of self-worth, leading him to believe that he was nothing more than a burden to those around him. The voices in his head constantly remind him of his past wrongs, the lives he feels responsible for losing. But through the healing arts, DarkPaw finds a way to channel his guilt into something meaningful.
Becoming a medicine cat apprentice allows him to express a compassion he was never shown, to offer the kind of care and comfort that was denied to him. In healing others, he finds a way to atone for his perceived sins and escape the darkness of his thoughts. The calm nature of herbs and the quiet rituals of tending to injuries and illness are grounding to him, a way to reclaim control over a life that once felt so out of his paws. It’s through healing that DarkPaw learns that he can be useful—not as a warrior in battle, but as a protector in a different way. He can save lives, offering a form of hope to others that he never received himself. He can save instead of end them.
For DarkPaw, healing is more than just a way to help those around him—it’s a path to healing his own cursed soul. It’s a way to undo some of the damage he believes he’s caused, to create a sense of purpose and belonging within the clan that he has never had before. In learning the ways of medicine, he starts to rebuild his sense of self, learning that there is value in helping others, and that he can be a force for good—even if he struggles to believe it himself.

________________________________________

WHAT WOULD HE BE LIKE AS A MEDICINE CAT APPRENTICE?

STRENGTHS
DarkPaw would likely immerse himself in learning about herbs and treatments, finding peace in the structure and purpose the knowledge provides. His interest in herbs as a calming mechanism would evolve into (eventual) genuine (near) expertise, especially for treatments requiring precision. He would be especially meticulous when treating patients, ensuring that every leaf and poultice is perfectly prepared. He would watch every little thing, and do his best to guarantee that the said patient is left in a positive condition. With himself having experienced his share of pain and neglect, DarkPaw would strive to provide the validation and care he never received. He would approach patients with a gentle, understanding demeanor, doing his best to respect their boundaries while offering comfort and, of course, healing. Of course, his interest and determination to learn herbs is also a strength. Over time, he may grow more confident but also defensive if a patient is too nosy. Maybe a bit of a sarcastic manor, though he often keeps it to himself.

CHALLENGES
DarkPaw’s fear of failure would make him hypercritical of his abilities, often second-guessing his decisions. If a patient were to die under his care, he would internalize the loss as a personal failure, potentially spiraling into guilt at their death despite if it was something he could fix or not. DarkPaws constant pursuit of redemption could lead him to overwork himself, skipping meals or rest to care for others. His mentor/friends/BlackberryBat would likely need to remind him that his own well-being is just as important as his patients.

________________________________________

WHO IS HE NOW?

DarkPaw is a mere apprentice, still trying to find his place in a world that feels too quick for him. While the demons of his past still cling to him as a constant reminder, he’s begun to stretch himself toward the light—step by (very) cautious step. Trust comes hard, but small moments—like a peer’s friendly nudge or a trainers patient guidance guide him to soemthing that is rp still rather a stranger to him. Hope. He isn’t sure if he deserves it yet, but he’s willing to try. And sometimes, that’s enough. Outside of the role, he simply hopes to be good enough. To gain a sturdy place in the clan where no cat would look down on him…or find out his crimes.
ShadowClan and the well-being of it as a whole will most likely always be him prime concern(other than keeping his masks up). Despite his struggle as a kit, he’s gained and has held some decent bonds. BlackberryBat, was an older brother to him. Sure, not tied through blood, but he was the sole cat Dark(Kit) at the time went too after his mother reigned hell on him. BlackberryBat was his comfort, and is still a cat that DarkPaw admires. Another cat, FeatherPaw. It feels like she was just…always there. Since he was a kit, she was his best friend. He felt safe and…open around her. EveningPaw…she’s interesting. Sort of like himself. So, EveningPaw was a friend. A kind one to be around…she was understanding…she listened.
DawnStar…his mentor. He’s starting to understand she less scary and mean, and moreso is just doing her job. She’s fierce but she cares for her clan, she’s a great mentor to shape him into a decent warrior.

________________________________________

HOW HE INTERACTS WITH THE WORLD AROUND HIM

OTHER APPRENTICES
DarkPaw tries really hard to seem “normal” around other apprentices. He doesn’t want anyone to see through him, so he stays quiet most of the time and just follows along. If they’re doing something as a group, he’ll join in but only enough to not stand out. He’s not great at joking around or casual chatting, so he’ll usually just nod or give short answers. If someone teases him or gets too close to figuring him out, he’ll deflect with an awkward laugh or change the subject fast.

WARRIORS
DarkPaw respects the warriors of ShadowClan, especially for their dedication and skill. He looks up to them in a quiet way, even if he doesn’t always show it openly. When training with them, he gives his best effort, eager to learn and improve. He sees training as a chance to prove himself, not just to them but to his clan as a whole. While he can be nervous about their expectations, he values their guidance and takes their lessons seriously. If a warrior is kind or encouraging, DarkPaw responds well, though he might not express his gratitude right away. He’s more likely to quietly follow their advice and try to show his appreciation through his actions. With time, he could grow to trust certain warriors, especially those who treat him with patience and understanding.

ELDERS
DarkPaw is polite to elders because he feels like he has to be—it’s what any cat would do—but being around them makes him nervous. He worries they’ll see through his masks or ask questions he doesn’t want to answer. Even though he’s awkward, he secretly likes hearing their stories and learning from them. After all, they’re wise and insightful cats to be around, even if he doesn’t always know how to respond.

DAWNSTAR/HR’S
Respect. That’s it. Utter respect for these cats. Between DawnStar and MistkeWhiskers fierce attitudes? They are awesome, and he’s not the type to gush-admire cats either. Also, if he receives the role of a Medicine Cat Apprentice, he would find how to communicate with her with ease as she trained him as a warrior apprentice and he feels decently comfortable around her.

HOW HE WOULD WITH MEDICINE CAT MENTOR
DarkPaw would struggle at first to trust a mentor right away, especially if they try to dig into his personal life or emotions. I definitely see them growing a good bond though through training, hanging out, and just…existing together. He’d put everything he has into training, partly because he wants to prove himself…it’s his job, and partly because learning about herbs feels like a safe escape.

PATIENTS
When it comes to patients, DarkPaw really shines. He genuinely wants to help and will do whatever it takes to make them feel better. He’s careful not to overstep and always tries to respect their space and feelings. He’s the type that would never give up on a patient, despite their condition…and he’d blame himself, even if it was the inevitable that happened. DarkPaw is especially gentle with patients who are scared or upset because he knows what it’s like to feel that way. He might not say much, but his quiet presence can be comforting.

HOW HE’D TREAT OTHERS AFTER BEING A HIGH RANK
Even if DarkPaw became a high rank, his core personality wouldn’t change much. He’d still be reserved and careful, but he might grow a little more confident in his abilities over time. He’d treat others with compassion, especially those who are struggling, because he understands how it feels to be overwhelmed or lost. However, he might struggle with the weight of responsibility, always questioning if he’s doing enough or making the right decisions.

The greatest medicine of all is teaching others how not to need it.

CURRENT MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE
Poppy ~ poppies are rather small, with ruffled red petals and a dark center. we only need the seeds for treatment but you collect the whole flowerheads on patrol, we dry them afterwards — dulls shock/pain — one seed for apprentices or small warriors and two for average sized warriors, will only dull the pain, for more severe injuries two to three seeds can be used to provide more relief and put the injured cat to sleep, only ONE seed for queens/kits
Cobweb ~ placed on cuts — store them in sticks to prevent them from getting dirty — moss to slow bleeding, any needed herbs, then apply cobweb — they keep the wound clean and herbs in place
Moss ~ slows/stops bleeding, more dependable then cobweb which is too flimsy and weak — press up to wounds — moss absorbs liquids/grows anywhere moist
Borage ~ the leaves are chewed and eaten and can be used for a lot of things — milk production for queens with lots of kits or issues for other reasons — can bring down fevers and sooth stomach aches

CHARACTER COMFORTABILITY
Illness
slight sickness = 10/10 comfortable with treating/interacting
moderate illness = 9.7/10 sure, a cat doesn’t want to get sick by being around those who are, but it’s his job and he would mind being around them to help them recover
serious illness = 8.5/10 again, it’s his job to help them recover…even if it’s clan-wide he’d prefer to be the one to go to a sort of sick camp to assist the cats

Injury
slight injuries = 10/10 comfortable with treating and dealing with
moderate injuries = 9.5/10 comfortable with treating, will try and not focus on blood that much if it’s a bloody injury, but who would? he’s there to help nonetheless…broken bones and all he’d do his best to assist with once he gains the knowledge
heavy descriptions/mentions = 8.5/10 little grimaces and sympathy for those who went the warrior path…literally almost him, but he’d use the best of his knowledge to ensure a cats full recovery

Birth/Kitting
easy births = 9.5/10 he typically doesn’t have to be there for such (good)…it’s too much for his youthful eyes…yeah…yuck
difficult births = 7/10 poor little kits and the mother who he was sure would love them plenty more than his own…also for these he may have to go assist…even more yuck

Blood/Gore
slight blood = 9.8/10 comfortable with treating
moderate blood/gore = 9/10 comfortable with treating, will try and not focus on blood that much…but who would? he’s there to help nonetheless
heavy blood/gore = 8/10 he’ll probably grow into getting more comfortable around it, but for now? so much blood…too many flashbacks…but he had to stop thinking only shout himself…focus on the patient!

Mental Distress [he takes such things very seriously as he has had bad experiences with mental health in the past]
slight distress = 10/10 comfortable with listening too/offering advice
moderate distress = 9.8/10 comfortable with listening too/offering advice
heavy distress = 9/10 may be a bit antsy but will be there nonetheless

Mental Disease
slight description/mentions = 9/10 comfortable with treating/assisting, will be a bit antsy
moderate descriptions/mentions = 8/10 hesitant and will seek out his mentor, will try his best to help
major descriptions/mentions = 7/10 feels bad for being antsy/uncomfortable, will seek help but still try

Death
inevitable = 7/10 no cat should take a clanmates death ‘good’ in particular, but if it was truly preventable and he was affirmed of such by others he wouldn’t crash quite as badly…guilt still lingers with every death though
so-so = 5/10 who knows…if he could have helped this cat, every cat seems to think different things. still…he’s guilt, his head will hang low
treatable if he did just did better = 1/10 this doesn’t happen often, it at all, due to how quickly he gives a patient his focus and attention…but if one were to ever to die in his care? he’d go through a bit of a shutdown, blaming himself and meeting any accusations and chastisements from others with silence

It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.

WHY…ABOUT ROWAN!
。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆ 。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆ 。・:*:

YAPPING

I’m Rowan (wow…shocker), and since joining in May, 2024, I’ve been consistently active in the community, engaging and supporting others. With over 1,500 posts and a decently steady presence, I feel ready to step into a higher role. My focus on creativity and connection are beneficial for such a rank, and I’m eager to help guide us forward while continuing to grow together. I’m learning how to balance out my own life with WCO and everything is setting into place. If receiving this role, DarkPaw would probably (definitely) become my main (he’s already starting too lmao) and I may shelf some characters to make the responsibility more manageable. Now, I’m aware Ares and him being the Crown of the Atari may be a bit of a concern, but from what I’m aware of, the Atari Crown, CotC, and Healers aren’t considered real high-ranks here and one the ThunderClan sick plot ends with them, I’ll have less to do there. I believe that I’d be able to handle both roles if so permitted.

PERSONALITY TYPE RESULTS
Also! Y’all!!! In no way am I saying other users don’t have these qualities, y’all are awesome <3

ENFP-T [CAMPAIGNER]
Extraversion, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceptive
Here, I more-so relate my personality results to roleplay, but the link to my results is in the title to read the plain results! <3

STRENGTHS
Creativity & Energy: My boundless enthusiasm and creativity are huge assets when it comes to running events or generating new ideas. As a medicine cat apprentice (roleplayer), I’d engage with the clan and offer fresh solutions, bringing excitement and positive change to the role.

Empathy & Understanding: I have an intuitive grasp of people’s emotions and motivations, and this helps me create characters who feel authentic. I genuinely care about building meaningful relationships, both in and out of character. I enjoy exploring how my characters react to others and how they grow through their connections. Whether it’s through shared experiences or deep conversations, I aim to create moments that resonate emotionally with everyone involved.

Adaptability & Openness: I’m open to new ideas and directions in roleplay. I love exploring different styles, genres, and storylines, and I’m always ready for the unexpected. I adapt quickly to whatever is needed, whether that’s shifting a plot’s tone or diving into a new character arc. This flexibility keeps me engaged and excited about every new opportunity that comes my way. I like diving into my characters and I stick to their beliefs, no matter which one I’m posting as.

AREAS TO GROW
Perfectionism & Self-Criticism: I have a tendency to want things to be perfect. This sometimes leads to overthinking or doubting myself when I feel like I haven’t done my best. It’s something I’m actively working on – learning that roleplay is about having fun and collaborating, not about making everything flawless. Cause im…pretty flawed lmao T-T

Fear of Missing Out: I have a hard time letting opportunities slip by, so I can sometimes take on too much at once. While I enjoy being involved in everything, I’ve learned that focusing on what truly excites me and matters most keeps my energy more balanced. I’m learning to be more selective about where I invest my time and attention…y’know…this application is my main focus right now.

WHAT MAKES ME A GOOD CANDIDATE
I believe I would be a good fit for the role of Medicine Cat Apprentice because of my deep curiosity, empathy, and willingness to learn. I genuinely enjoy connecting with others and being a supportive presence in times of need. Whether it's offering advice or simply listening, I always try to be there for others, and I think that’s a vital part of being a high rank. Helping others and making sure they feel heard and cared for is something I value deeply, here and in real life. I still love exploring new ideas and approaches, which helps me stay open-minded and flexible. I recognize that the role of Medicine Cat comes with its challenges and responsibilities, but I’m ready to embrace those, learn from them, and grow with the guidance of more experienced cats.

I know that being a Medicine Cat Apprentice isn’t just about having all the answers – it’s about being patient, open to feedback, and committed to self-improvement. I’m not perfect, but I’m always striving to be better and take initiative when needed. Above all, I recognize the importance of teamwork and collaboration. I understand that the Medicine Cat role requires working closely with others, and I believe I can contribute positively to the clan’s well-being while also learning from the team around me. In short, I would be honored to take on the responsibility of Medicine Cat Apprentice and join the ShadowClan highrank team, and I am committed to learning, supporting others, and growing within the role.

It’s during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.

RANDOM NPC NAME - LILYSHIVER / MOUSECLAW

MEDICAL MADE-UP ROLEPLAYS

DarkPaw padded softly into his own den…the one he was growing accustomed to over time…the one he used for treating injuries, the faint scent of herbs mingling with the earthy smell of moss and stone. His tail flicked nervously behind him, his mind already reviewing the plants he'd need for the task ahead. He always felt a bit unsettled when he wasn't sure what to expect from a patient. LilyShiver was already there, sitting patiently on a bed of dried leaves. Her fur was ruffled from the rough encounter with a bramble bush outside, and her tail flicked with a hint of impatience, though her expression was neutral. A few thorns were lodged in her fur, scratches from the brambles she'd gotten caught in during her hunt. DarkPaw inhaled deeply, trying to steady himself. He hadn’t worked with LilyShiver much, and the idea of healing another cat always felt like a responsibility he wasn’t sure he could live up to. But this was his role now. He had to work with others…it was a responsibility, one he would handle better over time.

The injuries…some of the scratches didn’t seem like bramble…it was odd. He couldn’t smell outsider in this cat but…StarClan knew. He’d report it to DawnStar or MistleWhisker nonetheless. He would t press on it now though.
Alright…" he murmured, his voice low but steady. "Let me see your injuries." He moved closer, his paws shaking slightly as he bent to inspect the scratches on her legs. The thorns dug deep in a few places, and blood had started to crust around them. LilyShiver remained still, though she shot him a quick glance, her eyes assessing. "It’s not as bad as it looks." she said, though there was a slight edge of uncertainty and…defensiveness in her voice. "I got caught in some bushes, I'll be fine."

DarkPaw didn’t respond immediately. His paws hovered over her, unsure where to start. He knew how to treat injuries—he’d learned that much—but there was always a nagging feeling that he wasn’t enough, that he might make things worse. "Thorns first." he said finally, trying to sound confident as he lowered his head to see the best angle to pull them from. "I’ll pull them out slowly, then we’ll clean the scratches. It may sting a bit…I’ll do my best to loosen it first." he lightly licked around the thorn prick to do so, then grasped it with his teeth and wiggled it out of her side, quickly grabbing moss and placing it to stop the slight bleeding.

DarkPaw placed the bloodied moss aside, careful not to let his gaze linger on the crimson blot. "That's one…" he muttered, more to himself than to LilyShiver, as he moved to the next thorn. He worked in silence for a moment, his breath steady as he repeated the process—licking gently to loosen the skin around the thorn, then tugging it free with as much precision as his nerves allowed. As the last thorn came free, LilyShiver winced slightly, her tail twitching. "You're more careful than I expected.” she said, her voice softer now. DarkPaw flicked his ear, unsure how to take the comment. Was that a compliment? Or a polite way of saying he was slow? "Careful matters in the grand scheme of things.” he replied simply, glancing toward his herb stores.

He selected Yarrow and began chewing it into a poultice, his tail-tip flicking thoughtfully. "This’ll sting…more then before." he warned as he applied the paste to the worst of the scratches. LilyShiver hissed softly but didn’t pull away, her muscles tensing under his touch. "You're quiet for a healer.” she remarked after a moment, her tone edged with curiosity. Was she always this pushy to all her clanmates? Quiet for a healer…did she suspect him of something? DarkPaw hesitated, his ears flattening slightly. "I… focus better that way—“ he said finally, his voice low. "—talking too much can make me miss something important."

LilyShiver tilted her head, her expression unreadable. "Makes sense…" she said, though something in her tone suggested she was studying him more than agreeing outright. "But you seem like you've got a lot on your mind." Hell…what was she getting at? He was just trying to do his job! No patient he encountered yet was this…nosy. That’s all it was. She just wanted to know who was healing her…nothing more.

DarkPaw stiffened either way, his paws halting mid-motion as he reached for the Marigold leaves. His mind raced with excuses, denials, and deflections, but he forced himself to settle for the safest response. "Everyone does." he murmured, keeping his gaze fixed on the herbs. He crushed the leaves into a pulp and began spreading the mixture over the remaining scratches, his paws steady despite the tightness in his chest. Once the treatment was done, he stepped back, taking a moment to assess his work. "That should help." he said, his tone carefully neutral. "Rest for a bit, and keep the wounds clean. If anything feels worse, come back, and I'll take another look at it." the medicine cat apprentice instructed. The warrior simply stood, looked at the healing herbs on herself, nodded a small thanks, and left. That was…odd.

The den was always peaceful…until it wasn’t. Maybe it was simply sudden as most things…or perhaps a soul dare say the ‘Q Word’ in his den…(quiet)…either way, chaos snapped into existence, typically when one was trying to rest. The sharp and metallic tang of blood filled the air, nearly overpowering the usual herbal scents that lingered in the medicine den. Shadows flickered on the den walls as cats outside called out for help, their voices tense with panic. A heartbeat later, the entrance rustled violently as a warrior burst through, her eyes wide with alarm. Another tom seemed to be waiting anxiously outside the den as well. The she…she carried a limp figure…limp…a warrior whose fur was soaked dark with blood, pooling and dripping onto the den floor with every hurried step the rescuers took.

He’s bleeding out!(wow, really) the she-cat had panted, her voice trembling as she struggled to keep a steady grip on the injured tom. “We couldn’t stop it…he was ambushed on patrol!” Ambushed…AMBUSHED? DarkPaws fur began to stand on end…was it an outsider that dare step onto his clans land?…Or would ShadowClan have an issue with one of the other three? That doesn’t matter now! He would report to DawnStar ASAP…for now he had to focus on helping this…mangled up warrior.

The wounded cat (MouseClaw) let out a weak groan, barely conscious, his breathing shallow and erratic. Deep claw marks raked across his flank and shoulder, blood pouring from the wounds in sluggish but heavy streams. “Get cobwebs! Moss! Anything!” the she-warrior yowled, cause…yeah…that was totally how healing worked…grab anything!. Well…the yowling warriors paws were stained crimson from rushed attempts to limit the bleeding during their frantic rush back to camp, yet the den grew chaotic, herbs and supplies scattered as the medicine cat (or rather apprentice), moved with a practiced urgency. Every second felt like an eternity as he assessed the injuries, his mind racing to recall every remedy and method for handling such severe blood loss.

DarkPaw took a deep, steadying breath, forcing his paws to stop trembling as he rushed to the herb stores. His mind spun through the steps he’d been taught, sifting through his knowledge to focus on the essentials. Stop the bleeding. Prevent infection. Keep him alive.

Move aside!” he barked, his tone sharper than intended, but there was no time to spare. He darted to MouseClaw’s side, his paw already reaching for the worst wound—a deep gash on his flank where blood pulsed sluggishly but heavily. Before herbs, he had to stop the icky bleeding…the blood he tried to ignore, even though it was coating his paws slowly due to it pouring on the ground. Moss…he grabbed the nearest source, dappling it in the wounds, pressing firmer in the worse areas where need-be. Thank StarClan…it was slowing. Bleeding was slowing. “Marigold first…marigold.” he muttered to himself, as much a reminder as a grounding so he knew he was performing correctly. He snatched a bundle of the yellow flowers from his pile and began chewing them furiously into a paste. His jaws ached from the effort, but he didn’t stop until the pulp was smooth and sticky. MouseClaw stirred faintly, letting out a weak groan as DarkPaw smeared the paste into the gash with careful but firm pressure. “I know it stings…” he murmured under his breath, more to himself than to the injured warrior. “But you’re going to make it.” DarkPaw would make sure of that one. This warrior would make it.

Next came the cobwebs. DarkPaw grabbed a few pieces from his earlier pile, pressing them firmly onto the marigold-covered wound to hold the paste in place and eventually stop the slowed bleeding. His paws were slick with blood, the sticky crimson staining the lighter patches of his fur, but he didn’t stop. “Keep him awake.” he ordered the she-cat, his tone urgent but controlled. His deep blue gaze flicked to the warrior who had brought MouseClaw in. “Talk to him. He needs to stay conscious.

The she-cat warrior crouched close to MouseClaw’s head, her voice shaky but determined. “You’re going to be fine, MouseClaw. Just keep your eyes open, okay? Don’t you dare leave us now.” DarkPaw didn’t look up. He was already preparing more herbs—chewing up yarrow leaves to slow the bleeding even further. He couldn’t focus on the reassuring voices…the worry that it may be the final goodbye. He had his fine share of those.

His tail lashed behind him as he applied the paste to a jagged cut across MouseClaw’s shoulder, covering it swiftly with more cobwebs. Each movement was methodical, practiced, but beneath his mask of calm and confidence…DarkPaw was conflicted and hesitant. The scent of blood was overpowering, drowning out the comforting tang of herbs that usually filled the den. DarkPaw’s paws ached, his claws flexing instinctively into the moss as he worked. He layered the cobwebs over each treated wound, ensuring the herbs stayed in place. MouseClaw let out a faint, shuddering breath, his eyes fluttering half-open. The sight sent a surge of relief through DarkPaw’s chest…MouseClaw was still hanging on. But the apprentice knew the battle was far from over. Blood loss was one thing, but infection loomed like a shadow over every untreated scratch.

The medicine den was calm…almost deceptively so, until the lichen at the entrance rustled violently. DarkPaw's ears pricked up, his blue gaze snapping toward the sound. A moment later, a warrior stumbled through the entrance, her pawsteps heavy and uneven. “LilyShiver?” DarkPaw called out, already moving toward her as she leaned heavily against the den wall, her breathing shallow and forced. The sharp, rasping sound of her breathing made his fur stand on end. “Sit down.” he instructed firmly, guiding her to one of the nests near the stream. “Let me take a look at you.” As she sank into the bedding with a weak groan, another fit of harsh, rattling coughs overtook her, leaving her gasping for air.

DarkPaw frowned, his tail tip flicking as he listened closely. The wet, rasping sound of her breathing, the exhaustion in her movements, the faint wheeze escaping with every exhale…the excess dripping from her nose and even slightly from her eyes—it all clicked together in his mind. His heart sank. “Greencough…” he muttered under his breath, his fur bristling slightly at the diagnosis. He had hoped it was just whitecough, but this was worse. Much worse. He stood quickly, his paws carrying him to the back of the den where the cracked wall held their precious stores.

Catmint. He needed catmint. He grabbed the few leaves they had left, the strong, sweet scent momentarily calming his nerves. As he worked to chew the leaves into a paste, his mind raced. There wasn’t enough here for an outbreak. If this spread…He pushed the thought aside and returned to LilyShiver, who was now trembling slightly in her nest. Her eyes fluttered open as he knelt beside her, gently nudging the paste toward her mouth. “Eat this.” he said softly but firmly. She managed to swallow, though her movements were sluggish. DarkPaw fetched a wad of damp moss from the stream, pressing it gently to her forehead to cool the fever that had already begun to take hold.

You should’ve come sooner.” he said, his tone a mix of concern and frustration. “You’re burning up.” Another cough wracked her body, and he pressed the moss closer, his tail lashing. He ignored the urge to back away and distance himself from the sick cat as much as possible. I there was an outbreak…he didn’t want to be a cause of it…he would do finder himself to the den for now then…only let in sick cats or his mentor if need be. This sucked. The den felt suffocatingly still. DarkPaw’s gaze flicked to the lichen-covered entrance. If Greencough had made its way into ShadowClan…

Shaking the thought away, he focused on LilyShiver. “Rest.” he said, adjusting the moss and bedding around her. “I’ll check on you soon.” His voice was steady, but inside, a storm of unease was raging inside of him. This was only the beginning. He could feel it.

NORMAL REAL ROLEPLAYS / POST EXAMPLES

RookFire felt slightly familiar after his outing and tour with the medicine cat apprentice. For some reason, hearing the tom mainly being the one to speak was relaxing; it took his edge off a bit. Listening helped even more; he didn’t have to worry about what to say or when to say it; he simply had to soak in such information. That was a more enjoyable situation for the apprentice, if anything. He did his best to get to the front of the crowd, veering to the side a bit to get close enough to understand the lesson. For once he actually felt an excitement to remember training. No mask or pretend, genuinely interested. Rainbow color theme…that’s rather nice actually.

Poppy. He nodded slowly as he noted everything the medicine cat apprentice shared, poppies are rather small, with ruffled red petals and a dark center. we only need the seeds for treatment but you collect the whole flowerheads on patrol, we dry them afterwards…that’s it. Now, what they do! The best part to himself. To dull shock and pain? Makes sense, then further instruction on dosage, ‘ one seed for apprentices or small warriors and two for average sized warriors, will only dull the pain, for more severe injuries two to three seeds can be used to provide more relief and put the injured cat to sleep’. Never give a queen or kit more than one…got it! He was already enjoying this himself. He had decent memory…hopefully he could recite this and it would stick in his mind, yeah?…He tried to pick up the questions so he understood the answers…he pretty much had it, the dosages and such…he could guess the answers as well. Then drying the poppy in the sun, easy enough…right?

Quicker than he could finish processing all the previous information, they were moving on to more herbs. He had his mental notes that were important…he at least believed he did. Well…how could he forget one of the most interesting things he had learned as an apprentice so far? How had he missed out on this aspect?…If he were to be truthful to himself, he was busy as a kit being abused and pressured, so…he supposed herbs weren’t much on his horizon…but oh now they were! And how they lit up his eyes with interest and passion was even better. The medicine cat’s jobs were fascinating. Sure, he doubted he could become one, the positions already were filled, but for the hell of it, he would love to learn more beyond the current lesson he was receiving.

Cobweb. Cobweb. Yeah, he’s seen it before, and primarily knew it to be placed on cuts. The sliver of information he already had about herbs. Store ‘em on sticks…noted! Moss to slow bleeding, any needed herbs (which he wanted to know all of them, but a guy can dream big, right?), then apply cobweb. They keep the wound clean and herbs in place. Noted, noted, noted!

Moss ‘n borage. Well—moss was simple enough. That was one he already knew, and the medicine cat apprentice just said that it slows bleeding. Cobwebs don’t work for wounds bleeding and such typically…he observed as RookFire displayed the use by pressing moss to MossFreckles shoulder. Easy enough? Stops lots of bleeding and stuff. Moss soaks liquids (noted). And it grows anywhere moist (pretty much)…also noted to his fun little mental list!

Now to borage! This was getting easier and progressively better…more enjoyable. ‘the leaves are chewed n eaten and can be used for a lot of things includin' milk production for queens with lots'a kits or issues for other reasons, can bring down fevers n sooth stomach aches’…guess what? Noted! So cool…not many questions that didn’t sound dumb came to mind, and the point of this (to him) was to listen, not speak. That’s why it was supposed to be relaxing.

moon barely peeked through the branches, its pale light not enough to fully cut through the shadows. He’d wandered far from camp again, his paws moving without thinking. It was the quiet that pulled him away, the silence that felt like a relief from everything that crowded his mind. The forest was still, except for the occasional rustle of leaves or the distant call of an owl. Even the air felt different tonight—heavy, like something was about to change. DarkPaw couldn’t shake the feeling that it was only a matter of time before something broke, before he would have to face whatever it was he was running from. But what was he running from? His own thoughts? The constant weight on his chest, the feeling that everyone expected so much more from him? Or maybe it was just the fear of what would happen if they saw him for what he truly was.

A mess.

A failure.

DarkPaw’s tail twitched nervously. He always tried so hard to be normal, to fit in with everyone else. He never let them see how much he doubted himself. Never let them see how broken he felt inside. The others seemed so confident—so sure of themselves. But he couldn’t ever seem to shake the nagging feeling that he was different. That something about him wasn’t right. The guilt ate at him, gnawing at his insides. He still remembered his mother’s face, her cruel words echoing in his mind. She had always been so sure of her power over him, so certain that he was weak and incapable. He had lived so long under her control, her judgment, and now, even after her death, it was like she was still there. Watching him. Disapproving. He couldn’t escape that weight, not even in the quiet of the forest.

His paws flexed in the dirt, as if trying to ground himself in something solid. But there was nothing. Not really. Everything felt fragile. He had so many unanswered questions, things that had never been said. Was it too late to change? Was there any way he could stop the spiral of self-doubt that consumed him?

His thoughts twisted back to his role in the clan, the expectations placed on him by others. It didn’t help that he had always been told that he was supposed to be strong, to be capable. But the more he thought about it, the more he realized he had never been given the space to be weak, to make mistakes. And now, every time he failed, it felt like it was all he would ever be—failure after failure, a constant reminder that he wasn’t good enough. He closed his eyes, his chest tightening. The air around him felt too thick, the silence too loud. The night was supposed to be calming, but it only made him more aware of how alone he felt. The longer he stayed out here, the more he felt like he was falling into something deep and dark—like he could never climb back out. He wanted to cry. But he wouldn’t. He didn’t deserve to. Cats like him didn’t get to show weakness. The clan would see him for what he really was—a broken, worthless apprentice. He was too far gone. His thoughts circled over and over, the same spiral, the same self-hate, and every time he tried to pull himself out of it, it only tightened its grip on him.

With a sigh, DarkPaw opened his eyes again, staring up at the night sky. The stars seemed so far away, so indifferent. They were the same stars that had watched over him since he was a kit. And yet, they felt so much farther now, like he wasn’t worthy of their light. Even the moon seemed out of reach. He had never felt so small. His shoulders hunched in on themselves, a tight knot in his chest. He had never felt more like a disappointment. It wasn’t just his mother’s ghost that haunted him; it was the weight of his own expectations, the pressure to be something he wasn’t, to meet standards he could never achieve. It was suffocating. What if it was easier to just stop trying? To let go and let everything fall apart? The thought flashed through his mind, unexpected but insistent. Maybe it would be better. Maybe everything would stop hurting if he just… stopped. But he wasn’t sure if he had the courage for that. Would it be better, though? Would anyone even care?

But no, that wasn’t right. DarkPaw didn’t want to believe that. He couldn’t. His paws shuffled uncomfortably, and he pushed the thought away, knowing it was just a momentary lapse, a weakness that would pass. Still, the thought lingered at the edge of his mind, like an ugly shadow he couldn’t fully escape. Opening his eyes, DarkPaw glanced down at the ground, his thoughts spiraling yet again. What was he doing? Why did he feel like this? Was it just him? Or was it something in the way he was built, something he couldn’t escape no matter how hard he tried? The noise of his own thoughts was deafening. It was the quietest moments that were the hardest. When he was alone with his mind, with all the doubts that crowded his head. He was so tired of it. Tired of pretending to be okay when he wasn’t. Tired of fighting an invisible battle that no one could see.

With a shaky breath, DarkPaw pushed himself to his paws. The camp was still waiting, its warmth and light calling to him, even if he didn’t want to go back. But he had no choice. He would have to slip back into his role, back into the cat everyone expected him to be. He didn’t know how long he could keep this up, but there was no other option. The clan depended on him. He couldn’t afford to break.

Not yet.

DarkPaw sat alone in a far corner of the apprentices den, his gaze distant as he stared at the ground beneath him. The camp felt overwhelming today. Too many voices, too many eyes. He pulled his paws closer to himself, curling into a tight ball as if he could hide from the world. His tail flicked restlessly, but he didn’t move. The cold nipped at him, causing slight shivering. His thoughts swirled around him like a storm—too much to process in such little time, too much to keep in his head. He felt like he was constantly pretending to be someone he wasn’t, and the mask he wore was starting to feel heavy. It was tiring, always making sure no one saw the truth behind his anxious exterior. What would they think if they knew? What would they say if they knew just how much he feared his own damned, cursed mind?

Stay calm…” he muttered under his breath. “Just… focus on your hobbies and interests. Focus on training. Keep it together.” But the words didn’t make him feel any better. He wasn’t sure how much longer he could keep pretending. The pressure to be better, to meet the expectations others had for him, weighed heavily on him. His mother’s death had brought relief, but it also brought guilt. Guilt that he was free but couldn’t escape the feeling of being a failure. DarkPaw closed his eyes, trying to quiet the endless voices in his mind. He just needed a moment of peace, something to hold onto.

“Laugh whenever you can. It’s cheap medicine.”

MR. DARKPAW

What intruiged you about medicine? Why did you choose it as an interest?
I didn't really choose it. It was always part of me, helping others, healing. ShadowClan gives me a purpose when I felt lost, and this is my way of giving back. I want to make sure no one has to face the same pain I’ve felt. I’ll use every skill I have and learn.

How would you handle a situation where a Clanmate was hurt, but you didn’t have the right herbs to treat them?
I’d find a way. I would use any- any knowledge that I obtain to help. Even it’s using a herb that isn’t the most ideal, I’ll do whatever I can with what I’ve got to ensure that they live.

Do you think you could remain neutral when dealing with a Clanmate you don’t personally get along with?
There is no- no luxury of personal feelings in the medicine den. When it’s time to heal a clanmate, that’s what it’s time to do. I would not let anything get in the way of that. … not like I have any bad relations with my clanmates anyways…or any relation with them

What would you do if your skills as a healer were questioned?
I don’t necessarily need ‘validation’ from anyone but my mentor, DawnStar, MistleWhisker, and StarClan…but I’d prove myself. I would show them how I’m capable…the only way to silence doubt if too succeed, yeah?

If a Clanmate were to die because of a mistake you made, how would you cope?
I don’t know if I could cope. It would haunt me, make me question everything. But I’d have to keep going because others need me. If I stop, they suffer too.

If you were faced with the choice to save a Clanmate you care about or a stranger, who would you choose?
Don’t know what the hell this question even is…why would a ‘stranger’ be around anyways? Well- for the technicality of the question, a Clanmate. Always and forever, ShadiwClan is my sole loyalty. Not a stranger.

What do you think is the most important quality a medicine cat should have?
Compassion…or at least a sense of responsibility and empathy for others. Without compassion, you wouldn’t be able to truly help anyone. You can memorize every herb, every cure, but if you don’t care for the cat you’re treating, you’re just a healer, not a medicine cat.

If you were ever faced with a dangerous situation, like a battle, how would you balance your role as a medicine cat and the need for self-preservation?
I would try to avoid the main heat of battle, but if a cat was injured and needed me I would do my best to get to them…I have my share of warrior training, I would be okay with proceeding. [note that as a medicine cat apprentice, DarkPaw would do his best to keep up with his warrior training as well, or at least battle]

MISS ROWAN

What excites you about taking on a High Rank role?
I’ve always been drawn to roles that let me build meaningful connections and drive the plot forward. A High Rank role is a perfect opportunity to shape the direction of the clans development and create depth in interactions with other characters. I love that it’s not just about having a position of power, but about collaborating with others to bring out the best in each character and keep things dynamic. For me, it’s about being responsible for my character’s growth, as well as their influence on the entire community. It also feels nice to help in character healing and having an impact on other characters development.

How do you think this position will affect your character’s journey?
DarkPaw often starts in a place of uncertainty or internal conflict. The position of High Rank often forces a character to confront their flaws and grow in ways they wouldn’t otherwise. For me, it’s about navigating those moments of growth—how the pressure of responsibility can both shape and develop them. With DarkPaw, his journey as a medicine cat is likely to deepen, and the challenges of this position will push him beyond his comfort zone. I see this as a chance to develop his trust in others and learn the true weight of leadership while still maintaining that vulnerability that makes him somewhat relatable to myself. I truly resonate with DarkPaw and see him to grow into a stronger character then he is now, growing to be somewhat quiet but head-strong, maybe sarcastic sometimes. Who knows, I can’t wait to see where he goes!
