Owlwing stood in the middle of the clearing, half listening to a different cat's conversation. He wished he had someone to talk to. "I feel more like an elder lately, he said to no one in particular, and stalked off to the fresh kill pile.

Even with his new role in the Clan, Silentpaw was stubborn. Refusing the warmth of the medicine den, he sat outside in the middle of the clearing, paws tucked underneath his thick fur. As he sat, fur fluffed out against the cold, he decided to actually use his eyes and quickly scan the clearing. And there he saw, Squirrelrise padding up towards him. He didn't think they'd actually properly spoken before, so this was going to be... Absolutely fun. Just amazing. Splendid. Fantastic.
Silentpaw never thought there would be a worse stutterer than Firepaw. But here Squirrelrise was, stuttering away her whole life. A part of him wanted to believe it was because of the cold, but he'd heard her talk before. That's just how she normally was. But who was he to judge? He never judged when... When it was Firepaw.
Okay, time to shut up about Firepaw. She means nothing to you anymore.
Silentpaw ended up staring at Squirrelrise for a good amount of timebefore actually opening his mouth to say something.
"... Satisfactory." Me mumbled, turning his gaze away from the warrior and instead staring off into the distance. "Lot of work to be done."

SQUIRRELRISE she/her | 17 moons | small, scarred russet and brown molly with white markings and yellow eyes
[ chill of death, hulk SMASH ]
in the awkward silence that falls over, in which squirrelrise waits for a response, she simply stares back. well, mostly. she manages to hold eye contact for a solid few seconds before glancing away, front paws shuffling. should she..go? is this his way of saying he doesn't want to speak to her or something? wait..I didn't do anything wrong, did I?, she wonders.
then, he answers. it's a very short answer, straight to the point. honestly, she's not sure if she's relieved that he doesn't beat around the bush, or intimidated by his crispness. she glances in the direction silentpaw looks off to, silently wondering what exactly he was looking at. then, she looks back to him.
"...of c-course." she responds, nodding. she's never been the most social cat, but she's improved. yet, for some reason, she's finding it very..difficult to socialize right now. augh. "I'm..su-sure..that..you and ssl..sleepysunrise will..do a..great job."

It took a brief moment for Houndkit to register Grottokit's barking as being directed towards him. With a mouthful of snake meat the brown kit turned his head, golden eyes blinking slowly. Wuut? He looked at the snakeskin the other was hovering over. He swallowed his mouthful before explaining, "..Cuz you u-use your-r teefss? Sss..ssi-iillly, it for-r biiiting!" He took the other's annoyance as simple misunderstanding. Maybe he thought he had to use his belly. Silly little brother. (hound did not care he was born before. Hound was Big Brother. Always.)
Houndkit gave a small nod once he saw Emberkit sauntering over. "Hai Burrrr," He greeted, while he could say his sister's name a bit more proper he opted to use the shortened version. Simple and he only dragged out the r instead of getting stuck on the B. Hated when B's were in the middle. Evilll.
Satisfied with letting Emberkit handle Grottokit, the chocolate brown tom went back to chewing on the actual meaty bits of the snake. Turns out it was indeed more pleasant than the skin. He had to be a bit mindful to not wolf down his bites. No tummy aches please. He let out a small 'oooh' at the reveal of a Second Mother. He didn't know why they were just getting this information but it's okay. Houndkit was smart. Always solved the mysteries.
He did, however, almost choke on a bite when Mama confirmed the fact they did have a Father. They were LEFT?? THEM?? Left MAMA? Tears started to well up in his eyes, that wasn't fair!!! Why'd he do that? What a mean mean mean cat. Quickly, he blinked away the tears. Had to be strong for Mama.
"Nuh-uh, nuh-uh!!!! Imma BIT-T-TE HIM!!!! He hissed, short tail wagging back and forth furiously. How dare. Poor, poor Mama. The tom made a dramatic show of tackling the air, rolling to give a few hind kicks before skittering closer to the Shadow Queen. He stared up at her with his big ol' eyes before attempting to rest his head on one of her paws. "It okay. I k-keep him out-t, " Houndkit reassured because clearly he could take down a full grown wildcat. Maybe he could find him and kick his butt!!! His hindleg twitched, making a few sudden & jerking-like movements before stopping.

she hadn't gotten over her little habit yet. rise up from a half-baked slumber, feeling robbed of the liveliness she used to feel when she thought of warriorhood, but then remembering that the clearing outside the apprentice's den would be sunny and bright. she always expected the old camp, expecting to see the shadowledge looming above; a comfort the cat had never known she had until it was gone. then she'd step outside, and see the new camp they'd adopted after being chased out by twolegs. it always made her heart ache, yearning for the familiar clearing she'd known before. she hoped that one day she'd wake up there. but the cat knew that'd never happen. the cat knew she'd never be able to go back. she'd never, ever be able to see the bustling activity of cats in the camp she'd grown up in. the cat wondered if she'd ever even see it again. probably not. when she'd began her apprenticeship, the cat had scarcely ever felt angry. hedgehogs would have flown by the time past her wouldve felt like this; this smoldering, bitter anger that was accompanied by such a feeling of longing. she felt angry at the twolegs who'd destroyed her home, dawnstar, but most of all herself. she bundled her anger away, but it still was taking up a large part of her attention.
the surge of anger the cat had felt lingered in the back of her mind, pushed there by the overwhelming, towering pile of worry and nausea and self-loathing that wouldnt leave her be. the cat remembered her conversation with turtlepaw the day before, by the grimpeak. the cat's mind had decided that turtlepaw hated her for some unknown reason. and it was slowly convincing the rest of her that it was true. her one friend in the clan hated her. when the cat thought of it, it had a ring of truth. why wouldn't she? didnt everybody hate her? no. yes. no. yes. her mind debated, spacing off in a downward spiral. turtlepaw didnt hate her. turtlepaw didnt hate her. she tried drilling that into her brain, but it barely did anything. turtlepaw hated her. it didnt sound any less true. the cat bit hard into the vole she'd taken, blinking back tears and shoving those thoughts as far, far back as she could. they disgusted her, or maybe the cat disgusted herself. she needed to bury those as deep as possible, maybe until she'd never think them again and forget they even existed in the first place. the cat tried dragging herself out of her thoughts, to stop staring blankly at the camp wall and instead actually be conscious. the cat couldn't have thoughts like that if she was distracted by the world around her. she dug her claws into the ground, and forced every fibre of her being to pay attention to the activity of the clearing.
"Mhmm," she nodded her head vigorously, whiskers bobbing. "It just feels--" she paused. How could she explain how sometimes she felt alone when she was surrounded by friends. How the night was like that. How it comforted her knowing that everyone sorta felt that way in the dark?
"--it feels right somehow," she concluded. She let her head fall back down to her paws, tilting it so she could watch Graynight.
Graynight nodded his head. "I like the night, it's quiet and I'm not expected to do, or be, as much as I am when the clans are awake." He let out a purring laugh. "Which is silly, you know? Since I'm a new warrior, I'm expected to be a good cat, follow the code, but I'm not relied on or anything like the leaders or deputys have on their shoulder.. But it's still a weight off of mine at night." He fell silent, his eyes nervously on Jaggedsky. Had he just rambled too much?

Jaggedsky | She/her | 12 moons
Jaggedsky nods eagerly, her ears perking up thoughtfully. If she didn't say something quickly enough, the thought might disappear. Be forgotten. Like it was never thought.
"In the dark, you can do whatever you want, think whatever thoughts you want, and no one will judge you." She sighed again. "It's comforting." Her eyes flicked back to Graynight. "But it's sad too. There should be a time outside of the night where we don't need to worry about stuff like that." Where she could just feel the emotions rioting around inside her for a moment, she added silently. And then, reset.

He nodded along with her words. "I agree, I suppose the gathering is... supposed to be that but frankly I feel as though it misses the mark, I still feel the pressure there." Graynight heaved a sigh. "But the night does well for now, it comforts well even if there should be more time elsewhere." Such heavy topics, well if one could call this heavy, was something the tom rarely spoke about outloud and it felt nice to finally say them.

Jaggedsky exhaled slowly. How did they get on to such a deep topic? It happened so slowly she hadn't noticed. It was like that feeling when you wake up, you don't know how long you've been awake.
She curled and uncurled her tail in the silence. She felt like they had exhausted the topic. For now. Maybe when they knew each other better, they would have more to say.

Firelight finished eating his frog, and looked around the clearing for some cat to go on a walk with him. His paws and legs were sore from sitting all day and he needed to stretch them. He found Violetpaw, and walked up and asked if she wanted to take a walk. Hey, I need to stretch my legs and was wondering if you wanted to get out of the camp. You wanna join me?
