cobwebstorm sniffled, blinking through the haze of tears that clung stubbornly to her lashes. the weight of owl's words pressed heavy on her chest, but not in the way she expected. the leader's frustration was familiar—cobwebstorm was reminded sharply of stormstar—but buried within that sharpness was something cobwebstorm could almost cling to: understanding, and maybe even care.
' i... i know, owls, ' she began, voice trembling. ' you're right. i.. shouldn't have... i shouldn't have tried to fix what wasn't mine to fix. i—i thought I was helping.. i just... ' cobwebstorm's words faltered, her claws scraping lightly against the den floor. ' i jus'.. don't want anyone to feel like they're alone. like i... like i do. ' stars, that was embarassing to say.
her ears flattened against her head as she let out a shaky exhale. she hesitated, lifting her head to meet owlstar's gaze, her blue eyes rimmed with a lingering sadness but determined, albiet her deep tiredness. ' thank you... for not giving up on me. ' she said softly, leaning briefly into the leader's comforting touch before stepping back, her tail dragging low but slowly beginning to lift.
' i'll get some rest, ' she promised, voice still shaky but a bit firmer now. ' and if... if i see her again, i'll come to you. swear it. ' she glanced back as she turned to leave, her tail tip twitching uncertainly. ' 'nd, owlstar... thank you. for everything. i won't forget this. do- do you mind if i go? 'you're not allowed to leave until i excuse you. storm's voice echoed through her mind and cobwebstorm breathed deeply.

As Stagheart ducked in at the permission of his leader, he noted the slight sleepiness in her eyes. Ah, dangit — had he disturbed her sleep? Thankfully she didn't seem to mind. He paused a moment, glancing around; last time he'd been in here had been to discuss this very same topic with the medicine cat and Daisypaw... and Stormstar, of course. It felt strange not to see the late gray leader now, although he did note that Owlstar seemed fitting in her stead. That was quite the relief; he was grateful to have faith in his leadership after all that's happened to his Clan.
Dipping his head respectfully in greeting, Stagheart sat down on the cool stone, ignoring the way the cold leeched through his haunches. "Sorry to bother ya wit' this, but it's somethin' that's been ongoin' for poor Daisypaw. Ain't sure how much you know 'bout the situation, but she's got... a condition." He furrowed his whisker brows as if trying to recall what Berryshine had said about it; he was no medic himself and strained to find proper words to describe the young cat's ailments. "She's, ah... sorta weak. And I don't just mean strength; I mean that certain things she can or can't do, and if she does 'em anyway, might pull a muscle or somethin'. Can't train 'er like a normal 'paw, that's for sure."
He paused a moment, frowning. "If you remember, Fadin'star had gone to assign her as a Caretaker. I was gonna get some instructions on how to train her from 'im, but then he... left, shortly after." Stagheart's torn ear flicked as if recalling the way Waterlily, the fierce elder, had practically chased the former leader out. "Then Stormstar almost wanted Daisy to be taken out of the Clan, let some Twolegs take 'er in 'cause Clan life weren't suited for her. But she let her stay since Berryshine said she was gettin' better 'n stronger over time."
Stars, he never spoke this much. He was starting to hate the sound of his own voice. Clearing his throat, the tabby tom gave a shrug of his broad shoulders, looking at Owlstar with measured respect of her opinion.
"Now... well, bad part is that I never got to trainin' Daisy on anythin' 'cause I never got a chance to be told what to do wit' 'er. Guess now that question falls to you... 'n so long as you ain't disappearin' into the ground as we speak, maybe I'll be able to figure it out this time." The last words were said in dry humor, blue eyes glinting in the dimness of the cave. He waited to see if Owlstar had any other questions of clarifiers, or if she'd get right to the instructions.
Brown ears flicked as she listened, her tail swaying as she blinked back streamers of sunlight. She had no idea Daisypaw had a condition and was going to have her place in the clan figured out numerous times but never got to it since everycat kept dying.
"I believe the word caretaker is pretty self explanatory. Since she cain't do much without hurtin' herself, yer right. She cain't be trained, not in the slightest. So, fer the role, I suppose I could 'ave er as an aid of sorts. The gal can still run, yeah? Er, walk. That's a better word." The leader thought for a moment before she finally shook her head and moved on.
"She could help carry herbs to n' fro when the herbalists jaws get too full. Carry prey, clean moss, maybe stay 'round the nursery to watch kits who ain't got any kin. Help the ol' folks get around if they need it. So, generally, support. She helps when she needs ta, but I'm sure there's gotta be more specific stuff she can do other than apprentice duties." She'd already given some examples, threw them out and hope they fit.
"Whatcha think? Also, since she know good n' well she cain't be a warrior, what about I still give 'er a name, but not exactly a warrior name, just somethin' ta enform others of 'er status."
@Marigoldwhisper Moonstone padded into the den, his head, ears, and tail uncharacteristically low. "'Ey, Owlstar, congratulations... By the way. I came to ask, could you show me to Grayowls grave? He was my nephew and all."

Stagheart was relieved when Owlstar seemed to consider his words and think on what Daisypaw could do; part of him had dreadfully thought she might come to the same conclusion that Stormstar had, wanting to toss the Caretaker roll altogether and possibly find her a home far away from the Clans. And as much as that would've made logical sense, he was grateful that Stormstar had decided against it in the end, with Berry's medical advice; he wasn't fond of the idea of Daisypaw being separated from her kin. And now... she would have a chance to belong and have a designated role for it.
He nodded slowly as she spoke; essentially she'd be doing the duties of an apprentice without training for hunting and fighting, but added tasks such as helping out with the kits, perhaps the medicine cats, things like that. That seemed decent enough, and would give her enough to do for some purpose and not risking boredom. Hopefully Daisypaw would be alright with that; he'd felt terrible having had to neglect her training for so long. And the fact that Owlstar seemed okay to have a cat like that in the Clan was relieving.
"Ah, yeah... alright. That all sounds good to me. I remembered Stormstar wanted to scrap the role altogether at some point 'cause of Daisy's condition. But I think she could be helpful — StarClan knows she's got a big heart 'n the will to do things despite her body," he rumbled in a half-amused, half-dry statement. "I got no problem doin' what I can to make sure she's assigned duties 'n keepin' to 'em."
Stagheart paused a moment, tilting his broad head thoughtfully. "A name would be good. Don't think she'll wanna be a 'paw forever, 'n her trainin's been held off long enough. I'll get to enforcin' her duties 'n see what I can't think up for 'er. Then whenever ya think it's fair, she can get her name. If you ever want or need her to learn somethin' else for the Clan, lemme know, 'n I'll make sure it happens."
The large warrior felt a bit lighter now. He was just about to start rising to his paws when another thought crossed his mind. Whiskers twitching, he frowned a bit.
"You think I should, er... try to at least teach her somethin', like self-defense? It was one of Stormstar's worries, that she don't know how to defend herself 'n would be a..." What word had the gray leader used? "...a liability. But whether I do or don't, I'm thinkin' it should be a rule—if you agree, of course—that if she ever goes outside camp, she needs at least one other cat wit' 'er — 'n a warrior too, not an untrained 'prentice. She needs someone who knows how to fight to watch over 'er in case of any threats."
The tabby tom met his leader's eyes, respectfully deferring to her opinion after his suggestions, but hoping she'd agree. Daisypaw's ambition and heart might make her want to push herself and do things on her own, and the last thing he needed was to find her dead somewhere and no one the wiser. If there was a rule about it from Owlstar herself, perhaps that could rein in the apprentice's passionate tendencies.
It was a fact, just by looking at her anycat could probably tell. But she had the nose of any good cat, and she knew the warm scent of the nursery like a second pelt. A kit. A kit was in her den, and it seemed they didn't even know it. Wow that was... Kind of concerning?
Not only that, as she looked at the small flurry of fluff, she noticed how oddly transparent her eyes looked, somewhat red and also violet? They almost looked glassy as well, like they weren't even real. And they were abnormally white with an odd red undertone. Owlstar had seen an albino squirrel before, she believed Wisteriawren had caught one. Was this kit an albino?
Also, who's kit was this? Oh, she was about to give somecat a stern talking to if they weren't looking after their kits, just letting them wander aimlessly (Owlstar was just being dramatic... Hopefully). Thank the stars they ended up here. "Aye hun, I think ya ended up a good few fox lengths away from yer kin." The leader teased. "Don't suppose ya 'ave somethin' ta tell me? I'm Owlstar by the way, nice ta meet cha."

He was unsure how much of his idea made sense, but he had to try. Riverclan needed a strong leader more than ever, and even though owlstar is plenty strong, he felt that the assurance of 9 lives would make everyone feel better.
He shuffled, readjusting himself, waiting for her response.
Sighing as he padded up towards Storm- no, Owlstar's- den, the Lionheart looked around. Too many leaders had called this den their own too quickly. Too many lost the ability to call it their own too quickly.
Standing near the opening of the den, Brokenstream peered into the shadowy hollow. "Owlstar? May I have a word?"

"Owlstar, I have a question," he meows, his voice almost quiet. He had grown quite bored in the camp and needed something to do. Maybe go on a patrol? He would ask Owlstar then.

Seabreeze sighed and walked into camp with an unaided glare, just generally upset with the situation but at least it wasn’t anything too bad. It was annoying. The warrior sighed and took a deep breath before making his way to Owlstar to report the situation to her. “Owlstar, I ran into an outsider at the Thunderclan border.” He stepped into the den after a moment, allowing the leader time to deny or allow him access. Before he continued with his explanation. “Around my age, hunting our side of the border. I told them to scram and leave the prey, but they refused until I threatened them. To which they ran with the prey, just a frog but prey nonetheless. I didn’t give chase because I felt like the energy wasn’t worth it.” He looked up, waiting for a response.

Owlstar stood in her den, pacing, probably thinking. Her ears swerved towards the entrance once Seabreeze's voice filtered through it, beckoning him in with a wave of her tail. An outsider... They seemed to be dead set on getting on her nerves lately.
The matted she-cat let out a sigh. "Not much I can do there, chap. Ya chased 'em off, just like ya shoulda. Though, I should probably send a patrol there soon, make sure that pocher don't come back ta snag our prey." She hissed. She then lifted her gaze back to Seabreeze. "'Lest ya got somethin' else ta tell me, or a pelt ta maul, yer free ta go." She was somehow able to inch back her own frustration and make way for a glint of humor.

Owlstar tensed, nearly startled. "Aye chap, ya don't come inta my den uninvited. Wait fer me ta give ya the okay." The tabby reminded curtly, her eyes narrowing slightly. If this kept happening, she'd just have to make an announcement.
She nodded at his congratulations, one eyed gaze hidden in shadow for a moment or two. Once she readjusted her eyes they narrowed once more. Greyowl? The leader briefly wondered if this cat was their kin. Moonstone's (what a name) next string of words answered her question immediately. Ah, nephew. She hoped bloodlust didn't run in the family, but that was a silly thing to assume.
"Buried 'em in Rugged Range, outskirts." She mewed. "Under the base of a tree. I figure ya wanna visit 'em, eh?" She awaited a response.

Owlstar listened quietly as Stagheart spoke, the only movement from her being the slow rise and fall of her chest as well as how she shuffled her paws every so often. They were unnaturally cold and she figured moving them around every now and then would help with that. After the tom finished, she nodded.
"Yer right. This world ain't kind, and while a warrior er appreciate might not take a strike at 'er some sorta predator will." Leaf-bare or not, Owlstar was never in control of what was or wasn't in her territory, and she never could be. Chase em, kill em, skin em, some factors weren't made for her to control. "I can teach 'er, if ya so wish." She didn't doubt Stagheart's abilities, not in the slightest, but Owlstar figured she had a good amount of tricks up her sleeve to easily wrench any kind of threat away from Daisypaw.
Nothing that would keep something away permanently like actual combat, but something to get them off her tail. "Y'know, she cain't hide behind o'er cats ferever, somecat's gonna try n' take a bite at 'er at some point. But.. I'll see to it that whenever she goes out, she's accompanied. Though, we could just confine 'er ta camp."
Owlstar knew camp could be suffocating, but depending on the severity of Daisypaw's condition, it might be best for her to stay within camp for a majority of her life. "Not permanently mayhaps, but a good 'mount of 'er life. Don't wanna deny her explorin' or huntin', but I also don't want 'er at risk. Just offerin' a perspective, chap."

Her voice was sharp, lashing her tail over cold ground in an attempt to warm it before sitting down herself.
She blinked as she listened to the warrior. His concerns were valid, but the route of the Starcave was only known by medicine cats and leaders. There was an obvious reason why it was that way in the first place, so Owlstar wasn't one to override it.
"'Ppreciate yer concern, but I cain't let any warrior near that place. It's location isn't known ta many, and it's sure fer a reason. Plus, this is an issue Starclan gave me, so I believe I should handle it as such." She sincerely doubted the help of the clans, so it truly was a one way thing. She had no high expectations except the ones she put on herself.
"So no. I cain't grant cha permission. Riverclan wound themselves in a mess, think it's only fittin' we get ourselves outta it. Unless ya 'ave anythin' else, yer free ta go." she gave the warrior a dismissing yet respectful dip of her head.
(boo! For future reference, just know that cats can't enter the den before owl says they can! Common mistake, it's all good :3)
Owlstar lifted her head before waving her tail and meowing politely. "C'mon in, chap. Whatcha need?"

Standing near the opening of the den, Brokenstream peered into the shadowy hollow. "Owlstar? May I have a word?"
Amber eyes strained to see past lichen, making out the blur of features that was the begal, Brokenstream. Pleased but also slightly anxious to see a familiar face, Owlstar perked up and addressed the Head Lionheart. "Aye, chap. C'mon in, what's eatin' ya?"

Nightweb yawned as he padded towards the leader's den. He poked his head in, hoping to talk to Owlstar. He didn't dare enter unless invited in by her, herself. He sat at the entrance. "Owlstar, I have a question," he meows, his voice almost quiet. He had grown quite bored in the camp and needed something to do. Maybe go on a patrol? He would ask Owlstar then.

"My pulse is clear, rushing through my ears."
She watched as her clanmates furred face peeked into the den, a hinge of a laugh making her chuckle. "Question, eh? C'mon in, chap." She waved her tail at the warrior.
