The black kit nodded slowly. It made sense, but also to her it.. didn't make sense. "I can see how others would think that. I think its better to do herbs though- It's fascinating, you learn so much, and there are other ways to solve problems other than fighting. And if I- you I mean, because your a Medicine Cat, you get to heal injured cats and help them feel better. That I think would be the best part, seeing cats thrive under your care." Star turned to Berryshine, blue eyes shining. "What's the best part for you?"

@squidz (not sure if you've seen, but if you read the messages regarding her name, its Nightkit until someone becomes a warrior, then she'll be Starrykit. just call her star though- that's her nickname}

Berryshine nodded, greatly able to sympathize with that; she was all for learning to solve problems other than using claws. Not that she could use her claws herself, but... well. Peaceful routes were often better, right?

She nodded to Nightkit's last few statements, a little smile on her maw. "Y-Yes... seeing a cat feel better and healthier is truly the best part. Especially i-if they were struggling for awhile, o-or gravely injured... it's wonderful to see them restored and strong." The opposite of that, of course, was how devastating it could be when cats didn't recover well... or at all. But since that was a darker topic, the medic wouldn't be getting into that — not with such an inquisitive, adorable little one right here.

"B-Besides that, I truly love having a unique connection to StarClan a-and being able to have a bond of sorts with the other Clans' medicine cats. It's a wonderful way of being involved in a deeper connection beyond the barriers of borders and Clan names, y-you know?" Berryshine paused after speaking, a faint mrrow of amusement from her throat. "Apologies, I think I w-went on a little tangent there." The kit was young, but she spoke well, so the medic didn't think she was overwhelming Nightkit with her musings.

Nightkit shook her head, gently pawing the herbs she accidentally dislodged, back into place. "No it's fine, tangents don't bother me at all! I like to listen to cats talk; Then I don't have to talk as much." The inky black she-kit giggled slightly. Then, flicking her messy-furred tail, she meowed, "So you really have a good connection with Starclan? Even though the connection is said to be destroyed?" Her washed out, blue eyes blinked at Berryshine, widened in awe.

In hearing that she got to be friends with other Medicine Cats, Nightkit grinned softly. "Really? So you don't get in trouble for being friends with them? I'd like that. I mean, even though it's a lot of responsibility, it just means the reward is greater. Right Berryshine?" She blinked again, white eye patch crinkling.

The first question made Berryshine's face fall a bit, but she kept a faint, almost pained smile. Like she was acknowledging the disruption from StarClan, but remaining positive.

"Y-Yes... at least, I think so. Between us and our ancestors, we'll w-work out the problem soon," the medic mused, a flicker of doubt in her chest. What if they couldn't...? She'd swallow it down for now, meeting Nightkit's curious gaze. "I've spoken to a few of our ancestors myself, a-and I know how devoted they are to us and our Clan. We just n-need to keep up hope."

Then, the question about the other medicine cats; Berryshine shook her head, looking a bit more at ease once the topic about StarClan passed. "N-No, we don't get in trouble for being friendly with them... as long as we're not betraying RiverClan by spreading secrets or anything, o-of course. But medicine cat relationships can exist outside of ordinary Clan rivalries... t-though it just depends on who the others are, of course." Sleepysunrise crossed her mind, but Berry decided not to dwell on the dark-pelted ShadowClan medic at the moment.

That last sentence was incredibly mature for her age, and Berryshine's eyes widened a tad before nodding. "Ah... y-yes, you're right. That's some good insight," she praised, flicking her tail in agreement. "Just like Owlstar with being leader, o-or Sunheart with being deputy... it's a lot to carry on your shoulders. But you're also s-serving the Clan in a unique way... and it can be very rewarding."

Star's eyes widened at Berryshine's admission. StarClan had lost contact, but they were still keeping hope... "That is admirable, that we still keep hope.." The kit murmured, turning around to move a piece of Dock that had gotten stuck to her tail. "Hm. Where does this Dock leaf go?" She asked, turning around to search for other pieces of the herb.

Wow, the Medicine Den was bigger than she thought. The kit responded to Berryshine as she sniffed different herbs, looking for the scent of Dock. "Well, it is a big responsibility. I hope that you and the others get to rest at some point, though. You do such a good job at keeping the clan healthy." Nightkit flicked her pure black tail and lifted her white paw to look at a leaf that turned out to not be Dock at all. She had no idea what it was, frankly.

"What's this, Berryshine?" She asked, blue eyes shining and curious, white patches crinkling. She held up a leaf to Berryshine, ears twitching. It was a large, fern-shaped leaf, with a little white flower petal stuck on it. [Chervil, but girly doesn't know that]. As she waited for the Medic to respond, she finally found the Dock section, with the strong smelling herb within. Star carefully placed her leaf in with the others, tail flicking gently.

Maybe, when she was an apprentice, she could come in and help Berry! Helping cats meant they had less work, less work meant they could relax more, and relaxing meant they were happy! Right? Well, that's what the kit thought, and she wanted the whole clan to be happy. This clan had raised her when her parents died, and she would help them. Forever. A silent vow had been made in this kit's mind, ever since she could talk, and she intended to keep it. "Maybe I could help you sort herbs, sometime? When I'm an apprentice, maybe? And you said that I could go on herb gathering patrols, right? How do those work?" Well, the curiosity was back.

When Nightkit tried to look for more dock, Berryshine let out a small chuckle and gently helped pluck the leaf from her fur. "T-This is chervil, actually. I only recently learned what it does, so I don't have many i-in store yet." Carefully, she took it out of the dock pile and put it in its neat pile in its proper place on the rock cleft. "I-It has a myriad of uses, from helping with breathing to kitting to injuries... i-it's very valuable. Shadowedcall, if you know him, taught it to me. He's been very helpful."

At Nightkit's praise, the medic's gaze softened a bit, offering a little smile. "T-Thank you, Nightkit... I hope to do the best job I can."

Awh, her enthusiasm with patrols was endearing. It reminded her of Whisperingpaw. Nodding, Berryshine began to explain, her voice light and gentle like a morning breeze. "S-Sometimes apprentices get stuck with cleaning duties, yes. I have Daisypaw for most of it, especially since the rest of the apprentices are usually busy with their warrior-to-be duties — b-but I may call in a few 'paws here or there for extra help. I'll be sure to keep you i-in mind."

She tilted her head, continuing. "Y-Yes... once you're old enough, you'll be assigned every other moon or so to one of three patrols: hunting, border, or herb gathering. Basically, you'll listen to either me, Sunheart, o-or Owlstar as we tell you where to go and what to do. For herb patrols, I'll s-send you with a few warriors to collect one or two types of herbs from somewhere in the territory. It helps take the load off of me, as I can only carry so many in one trip," she mused with a chuckle at the end. Berry could carry a surprising amount for how small she was (one had to be creative), but still.

"Chervil...." Nightkit muttered, already committing it to memory, tail swishing as her brain whirred. "No, I haven't met him yet. But maybe I'll talk to him tomorrow, and ask him some questions! He seems cool, if he's taught you something. Shadowedcall must be smart.." Hm. Shadowedcall... The inky black she-kit committed that name to memory as well, filling away the information so she could find him later. "Hoe does I help with breathing though? Like, how would you apply it..?" It didn't quite make sense to Star, but she was sure Berryshine would clear it up.

Oh Berryshine was willing to keep her in mind?! Awesome!! "Really?" She squeaked, some of her remaining kit-like attitude shining though for a moment. "Thats great! Thank you, Berry." The black and white she beamed up at the Medic, fluffy tail curling straight up into the air in her genuine happiness.

Ooh, that sounded so interesting.. "Wow. I should practice carrying herbs.... I've heard the Shadowclan Medicine Cat Apprentice, Silentpaw, carries herbs in his fur.. Do you think my fur is long enough for that?" Star twisted her head around, washed out blue eyes raking critically over her fur, as if judging how many herbs she could carry in her pelt. "Well anyways, I can definitely help you! I shall be the best herb collecter ever!" Anything to do with herbs, Nightkit was excited about.
