Vixenpaw shakes their head and pads over towards where Quietmouth was, then they crouched next to him. They just wanted to get their thoughts in the back of their mind. So they do comply until they can finally rest in their den to relax, for now just keep going.

Quietmouth looks down and moves his paws between leaves on the ground, moving forward slowly and quietly. Then looks back at Vixenpaw for them to repeat, hoping that they stay quiet.

Vixenpaw is absolutely silent and follows Quietmouth very quietly and carefully. They are dead focused to do well even though they aren't feeling well mentally. They wanted to have an eventful day without any mistakes.

Quietmouth froze just behind some ferns that hid his large build from the squirrel, and crouched, ready to pounce. He looked at Vixenpaw, checking that they were watching. Then, he tilted his ears in the squirrel's direction. HE couldn't hear, but he knew that Vixenpaw could and that they would need to use hearing like he does vibrations in the ground. Honing in on the squirrel's location precisely, Quietmouth took one more breath, and pounced onto the squirrel. It didn't even have a chance to react before he caught it.

Once it was confidently no longer breathing, he set it down and purred for Vixenpaw to come out from behind the bush, into the clearing.

Vixenpaw's eye widen as they saw their mentor catch the fresh-kill, they wanted to try that now too! they were impressed with Quietmouth. So strong... they thought. They will try to do the next catch if they do see any. they approach out of the bush and comes out in the clearing. I want to try this myself they thought.

Upon seeing Vixenpaw approach, Quietmouth sat the freshkill in a position as if it was still alive, then, signaling with his tail for Vixenpaw to wait and watch, he returned to behind the ferns, crouched, and pounced on the squirrel again, showing the apprentice the half of the pounce they didn't see.

Then, he set the squirrel back down, moved back a bit, and nodded to Vixenpaw for them to try.

Vixenpaw goes back into the bush, and goes back into the crouch position, they are dead silent. They first practice the pouncing on the squirrel before actually trying on an alive kill. Vixenpaw sneaks forward and leap out with precision and pounced on the squirrel. They weren't sure if they did it right, but they think so. Vixenpaw turns and looks at Quietmouth carefully.

Quietmouth was proud of Vixenpaw for taking the initiative and attempting, and partially succeeding with, hunting a live squirrel nearby. He got up, fresh-kill in his mouth, and with a purr and a nod, congratulated Vixenpaw. They didn't do the pounce perfectly, but it was impressive for a first time.

After pausing a moment for Vixenpaw to pick up their fresh-kill, Quietmouth nodded in the direction of the camp and cocked his head. He figured Vixenpaw would be exhausted by this point, and he didn't want to put too much on them in one day, so he figured they would want to head back.

Vixenpaw gave a warm smile to Quietmouth. I did it right? they thought. Vixenpaw was proud of themself for at least trying this. They were tired after all of this, they want to rest and eat something. Vixenpaw gave a nod to Quietmouth and padded back to the camp.
