"Now, ready for a little fish catching contest?" Lilyshade looked into the water, seeing small silver fish darting between her legs. Her eyes narrowed in concentration and a paw flashed out, claws extended, to spear the fish. She held her paw triumphantly in the air, the weak sunlight flashing off the fish's scales. The black and white she looked at Tornadopaw. "One for me!" she declared. "Your turn." Lilyshade dipped her head and backed away, allowing him some space to catch something. She wanted to see the full extent of his skills, when he had the whole river to himself. Her fur bushed now that she was out of the water and she shivered. At least her short fur would dry faster. Lilyshade placed the fish on the bank and sat down to watch Tornadopaw work.

Tornadopaw could not deny his excitement as he paddled in the water, and he watched Lilyshade catch her fish. He paddled close to the shore, gingerly getting out with the water soaking his fur. One thing he did note: that he was happy to be smooth-coated. And, he didn't have to worry about bushing up, looking like a helpless fur ball. He laughed inwardly at the thought as he shook his fur of water. He turned back to the pond, crouching low. "Is it better to get fish by the edge of the water, or fully in the water; while swimming?" As he bent down to stare at the silver fish, he allowed one unsheathed paw to enter, feeling the coldness pick him once more.
Tornadopaw grabbed for the first fish, his hold wasn't firm, and he didn't use his claws to slice it. He made a slight hiss under his breath and started breathing gently. He didn't want to give up, especially if he wanted to impess his mentor!
This time, he edged closer to get a clearer look, and one fish caught his attention. He clawed at his with high speed, the fish sticking to the claws on his paws. He reeled it in slowly, hoping it wouldn't slip back in the water. He planted on the ground next to him, smiling triumphantly. "I thought I almost lost that skill, but I think it's because the water is cold, and I'm shivering." He gave a small laugh.

Lilyshade licked a paw and drew it over her ear thoughtfully. "I honestly think that it's better to catch fish while swimming because you can swim after the bigger fish that hide in the middle. If you just fish from the edge though, you are less likely to catch fish as most of them don't swim out by the edge. However, green-leaf is the best time to catch fish while swimming because then you don't get cold, therefore, you don't get sick," she smiled at Tornadopaw. "Does that answer satisfy you?" The black and white she-cat continued watching as he fished. Soon, he had caught one. "Good job," she praised. Standing up, she stretched. "Since it's cold, let's go warm up with some battle moves and maybe later we can come back and catch some more fish," she smiled brightly at him and turned away, beckoning with her tail to follow. Lilyshade hoped that maybe Tornadopaw had retained some of his fighting skills, but she didn't mind if he didn't. Starting over would take some work, but Lilyshade was up to it. She preferred to start clean anyway, so that she could give her apprentice some of her own advice instead of him having some other warrior's advice that could easily replace hers. Not that the other Riverclan warrior's don't have some good advice and wisdom to share, she just wanted Tornadopaw to be her apprentice, with her advice to guide him.

Tornadopaw tilted his head to one side. ''That makes sense.'' He nodded, understanding the concept. He forgot who told him about fishing at the edge, especially since he tend to forget a lot of things. But he will remember what Lilyshade was teaching him. He had to if he wanted to be a great warrior. And, he padded after her with his ears flattened. The battle skills weren't a first on his list. Since he didn't really know how to fight. It hadn't been taught to him, and he feared he would mess up a lot. He flicked his tail, watching as his paws followed after Lilyshade. I'm going to make a fool of myself! He thought, panicking.
Tornadopaw inhaled in a deep breath, hoping to clear his mind of the negative thoughts. ''You might consider me a waste of time in training...'' He tried to joke lightly, but it was too dark to him. He even tried to had a laugh, but it sounded bitter. ''I'm not really the strongest at fighting. In fact, I'd be better off as a kittypet in my opinion.'' His tail switched, and he looked down sadly. ''But, then again I wouldn't get anyway with a mindset like mine, huh?'' He looked up, his eyes sparking with hope. He swore to remember everything that his mentor were to teach him; especially when it came to fighting.

Lilyshade stopped in her tracks as she heard Tornadopaw. Whipping around, she dropped to eye level with Tornadopaw. "You are not a waste of time," she hissed. "And even though fighting is not your best skill, that's what you have a mentor for, to help you improve those skills. While you are my apprentice you will not say those things again, understand?" Lilyshade drew up to her full height. "Are you ready to train?" she roared, her voice full of determination, authority, and complete and utter trust that Tornadopaw would get better.

Tornadopaw sighed, dejectedly. But he nodded, wishing to believe his mentor. He mustered a smile, ''I'm sorry.'' He flattened his ears to his head. Once he heard what Lilyshade said, with such a voice of confidence, his ears tilted forward once again, and he gave a genuine smile. He did hope to perfect his fighting skills. Along with his hunting skills. The best thing he did was eat fish, but he wanted to catch other prey. On the ground. Not in the water, even though he loved the water. He wished for something other than fish.
Tornadopaw bounded up to his mentor, his tail swishing behind him. ''I'm ready.'' He gulped. Was he really? Evidently, he had to be, and he sat up straighter ready for whatever moves Lilyshade would teach him.

Lilyshade nodded. "Good," she said. "Now let's get going before sun down," and with that, she turned tail and bounded off to the training cave.
(To the training cave we go!)

Um, we are not in Camp anymore. We are outside of Camp ))

*EmeraldNight glanced back at him, her gaze cold. She flicked her tail in annoyance* Boy, you do not talk to me that way. You do not want to mess with me *she sighed and bent around to lick her twisted hind leg, smoothing the dark fur before straightening. She smirked, glancing back at FlashHeart* Watch and see how it's done *she stalks towards the squirrel, keeping her frame close to the ground, her ears back against her head in concentration. She lifted the dead squirrel into her jaws, its tail and limbs limp. She beamed proudly, glad to have shown off her excellent hunting abilities* Muth fruwf fweef *she muttered through the squirrel's oily fur. Maybe a rabbit, or some fish from the river? *she lifted the squirrel into her jaws again and started padding towards the river nearby, pausing oly to glance back at FlashHeart, her glare saying You had better hurry and come on before I force you by dragging you by your neck *

She was glad the ebony tom-cat started breaking out of his shell a little bit around her, however she knew she'd never get him to stop being so timid. The larger she-cat let her green hues spark with life a little bit as Jasperpelt agreed with her about doing something other than expected. For her, everyone knew she'd have kits, she didn't mind that, but now everyone was assuming she'd simply go find another mate and have more kits. Did she really want that? The question lingered in her mind. More kits later, perhaps, but could she really move on to a different mate? Would that ever happen?

At his offer, she shook the thought away and gave him a friendly little smile. "Okay, that will be good," she replied. Her kits would be needing her back soon, so perhaps it was time to say goodbye to this place for now and return. Rising to her paws, she gave him a long look. "We need to go back, my kits need me still," she spoke softly, gesturing him towards the entrance. She'd followed him out since she didn't want to be the reason they got stuck in the bushes or get lost. Lotusheart still wasn't sure if they were out of the territory or not, but she didn't need the answer anymore. It'd spoil it.

[perhaps this leads up to the nursery thing happening now? So like a mini time-skip from here.]
{Yeah, that sounds good
XD Smokeykit ships it}

The warrior glanced around at this spot once more. There were a lot of memories surrounding it... good ones, and bad ones, though mostly good. He had escaped from his nightmares here, though it had been a long time since he'd had a true nightmare since finding this particular spot. It was as though the spot saved him from...well, anything, really. Everything surrounding this area seemed to calm the tom, though there were also things about it that frightened him. More then he could seem to wrap his head around. Jasperpelt shifted his weight and glanced up at the sky, which was still bright as the sun had already reached it's highest point and was now beginning to slowly make the descent back down. "Of course. I understand." He mewed, heading towards the entrance and slipping through. With his shorter pelt it was easier, and he glanced back, waiting for his friend.

It had been nice to get out for a little while-- he knew she tended to be busy with her kits, and therefore he didn't get the opportunity to be around that often. I could always go and hang around the nursery, but-- that might be an awkward situation, he thought with an uneasy chuckle. He knew that the kits might not like him for spending so much time with their Mother. Besides that, was the nursery the best place for him to hang out? He wasn't exactly clumsy-- but he was often fearful that something bad might happen when he was around younger cats. Like he could hurt them in some way...which was the last thing he wanted to do.

Tornadopaw perked his ears, and in a rush of excitement he started picking up his pace to race his mentor. He loved the fun of running. When he wasn't swimming, that is, and within time he reached the territory and bounded up to the water. He looked down, allowing one of his paws to feel the temperature. It was still cold as they left it. Then again, nothing would change within a few minutes. His tail swished as he waited for his mentor. ''Come on!'' He called excitedly as he wanted to swim around and catch some fish. He leaned down further to stare at his reflection in the water. He didn't care about how he looked. He wanted to see the fish, to see if he could spot some giant ones that he could catch. He wanted to impress his mentor. Especially after that battling session. He ears flattened just recounting it.

@KitKat12
Lilyshade let Tornadopaw get ahead and trotted after him. She held a mishevious grin on her muzzle as she saw him leaning over the water. Stalking up behind him, she shoved her shoulder into his rump, effectively pushing him into the water. She stood there laughing on the bank before jumping in after him. "Well, that's one way to start," she teased, flicking water at him with her tail. She was having so much fun being a mentor. She considered herself as one of the carefree ones that had fun while they mentored.
