Lucky hugged Bridgette back and buried his face in her shoulder, trying not to cry. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful and his body heaved with sobs.

Pounce stood by the door uncomfortably, not wanting to interrupt Lucky and Bridgette by trying to comfort Lucky. He didn't know what to do so he just stood there, shifting from foot to foot. Why is this happening? he thought. Why now? The boy sighed and ran his hand through his unkempt hair.
