Ice Cold
[ Not completely a Biography, but mostly just a traumatic part in Freeze's life. Freeze shall possibly become a well-known character, if I roleplay often enough, as I will become dreadfully inactive and mostly use WCO as a source of curing boredom. ]
It was late, oh, so late. The moon hung high, shedding light upon whoever dared to creep into the open. Ah, yes. The dangers of The Ice Forest. Elders speak of how it was almost forbidden to trot along the gloomy leaves, to stay even a mere heartbeat within its depths. It's an old tale. Just a way to scare little kits.
I'm not scared.
Oh, no. I'm most definitely not afraid of that rabbit-dung of a tale. It's not even frightening! My brother had once gotten very paranoid of what they said lurked within those icy trails. It's unbelievable. What daft dimbo would believe that a forest could turn your heart to ice, your eyes becoming empty and cold? Make you become an utter monster?
It's just a tale. I'm gonna show them! I'll prove that it does not have anything wrong with it. Either way, I cannot become any colder than I already am. My name is Freeze, after all. I may be a kit, but I can be brave! And tonight was the night.
Mother groomed me and Melt, my brother, before settling us for sleep. Melt is quite literally my opposite. As I have a white pelt with the occasional black speckle here and there, Melt is all black with white speckles. My eyes are a dark blue, his are a light blue. I'm small, he's rather large for our age. Oh, yeah, we're about six moons, also.
Father disappeared before we were born, but Mother describes him as a handsome tom with darkened grey fur that stuck up at odd angles, lively blue eyes and a kind personality. She says he is funny, always one to make others laugh. I wish i had gotten to meet him.
Mother is a beautiful molly. She has bright, meadow green eyes, along with long fur that is always groomed to perfection. Her pelt is all white, although she a black underbelly with black ears and paws. Mother, as her name is Whisper, quite frequently does not abide by her true name. She can be loud and very much does not whisper. But, when it is time for sleep, her voice could easily lull anyone to a dream, in which most have reflected upon what she had been speaking of, or singing, beforehand.
I stood once I knew both Mother and Melt were asleep, slipping out from the safety of our den. I puffed out my tiny chest and padded towards where I always saw felines of the sort walk through, speaking of the forest and how they will end up getting back at their friends for it. Looking around and sniffing, I didn't find anything to be unusual, and kept walking.
Once I reached the forest, I felt a small sense of dread. Like all the happiness had been torn away. Like something horrible was going to happen. A voice blossomed within my mind, a nagging feeling sinking in my gut. Turn back now.
I ignored it.
Taking a deep breath, I shoved away all senses of negativity and trotted into the forest. The moon was nearing its highest peak— I didn't have much time. A bubbling feel of determination lit within me, overpowering any other feel. I was going to do this. There was no way anything could stop me!
I scanned the small area I was in, attempting to make out my surroundings. All I saw was the endless amount of greenery, most likely due to my small size. With a sharp, yet quiet intake of a shaky breath, I made my way past the shrubs and unkempt grass, until finally coming to a clearing.
As I walked, the sense of dread had become stronger. Almost overwhelming, even. Passing my tongue over the unusually chilly fur of my maw, the gradually lowering temperatures going unnoticed.
The clearing was eerie. It held rotting plants, prey and... the smell of death. I made my way towards the center, a certain carcass catching my attention. It was larger than prey. It looked like a feline.
Beginning to shiver, I finally noticed the drastically different, and still decreasing temperature. I puffed my fur and stalked closer. When I finally reached it, I gasped. The body, or what was left if it, looked exactly how Mother had described Father to look.
My ears flattened. The clearing was lit with moonlight, the trees casting disturbing shadows across the sandy ground. I took a step back before hissing as something damp slid across the pads of my paw. Not daring to look, I whimpered and spun quickly, shaking uncomfortably. My breath could be seen easily. My saliva almost immediately froze when I opened my mouth. Bodies of many felines who had gotten trapped within the forest, stuck within the terror, slowly yet surely becoming insane, littered the once clear ground.
I felt sick.
Fear crawled up my spine, gnawing at my sanity. I had to get out.
But then I remembered.
I had once seen a tom who had escaped. His eyes were a dull blue, as if all the life had been sucked from them. His grey fur was matted, dirty and sticking up everywhere. He had disappeared down the trail soon after, never to return. But, he didn't walk normally. He walked as if he had no ground beneath him, merely floating upon thin air.
It was Father's spirit, gone to forever be trapped within the horror that lurks within.
I sped through the greenery, splattered with the blood of all who dared enter. I almost fell, the cold taking a toll upon my tiny kit body. The greenery seemed to be endless, never leading me into the open. Darkness began to creep upon my vision. I was going to die here!
Blood-curdling screeches pierced my ears, causing me to stumble as pain seared through my head. Even with my ears flattened, the sound seemed to only become louder. And louder. And louder. Then, a light shone through my gaze, almost definitely fearful yet at the same time, emotionless. Unable to reveal what terrors I am witnessing. I'm a mere kit! I don't want to die!
I realized what the light was. The moon! I raced towards it, hoping it led me to the end of this nightmare. Just a few more pawsteps...
and I woke up.
