@blue jellie
The air was odd, cold yet the kitten was used to the feeling. He had been born in the cold, and by now the tom's paws were immune to the numbness. Still, he shivered the cold biting through the fuzz of his pelt. Yellow eyes glancing as the calico tom walked to the fresh kill pile. He was 5 moons, surely his mother wouldn't mind him eating by himself. Pulling a fat mouse out, the tom flicked his spotted tail. His eyes sparkling at the warm prey. Inviting him, he so desperately wanted to curl up in it. He took small bites, his eyes flicking to make sure no one was staring at him. Shouldn't you be sharing with your mom? You'll be fat if you eat it all! Such a pretty thing! Toms won't even look your way eating like that! He had corrected people many times that he was male, yet mistakes kept coming.

Two bright blue abysses, pool of hidden irises, staring into you, more through you than anything else. It wasn’t his fault though, Blackbirdpaw had treated Jaguarkit as a special case, taking care of him when no one else wanted to bother. It took Blackbirdpaw time to comprehend why Jaguarkit was...expressionless. Whenever she played with the little ones, they were rowdy, boisterous play mates. Saved for Pitchkit, who appeared to be cynical about everything in life. Jaguarkit...on the other paw just didn’t do anything. He stood there, or laid there, his head on his paws and his eyes remained on a fixed distance. Blackbirdpaw even called out his name a couple times to check up on him, but he never answered her. From what she observed, the milky glaze that his eyes held; he was blind. Then, the fact that he wasn’t responding to her sound, he was deaf. Blackbirdpaw has a soft heart, almost easily trusting she appeared to be. She started to coddle her younger sibling, taking him in her paws to be sure he was okay. Currently, the she cat thought it was a marvelous day for Jaguarkit to get some fresh air. Blackbirdpaw tried her best to keep him locked on a schedule because if she hadn’t, he’d be in that same spot, languidly moving about to a minimum. Feeling the breeze through her pelt, her eyes landed on the kit pressed against her. Glowing yellow hues, softly beaming down at her companion, Blackbirdpaw knew he could feel that sense of freedom as well.
Jaguarkit didn’t bother to leave Blackbirdpaw’s side. With a heightened sense of smell, he knew of her acceptance. It was hard for him to accep others he didn’t know. He preferred being around company he could trust. Additionally, he knew that it wouldn’t have looked right for him to be exploring a territory that he never saw or heard. However, he smelled the mingled scents of the other cats. Some fresh, others...not so fresh. He smelled prey, definitely fish, and maybe even a few voles. His frosty eyes glanced from one place to another - darkness. Something he was entirely used to, and it brought a peacefulness that others wouldn’t understand. Black was such a beautiful color. It was his favorite color. Not that he had much of a choice anyway.
It was a peaceful morning within the spacious clearing of Riverclan, but the black-furred tomcat’s mind couldn’t really seem to rest easy. How many long moons had passed since his beloved Talonfang had passed onto the stars above with such urgency and hardly a goodbye he could move on with? Sproutwhisker was unsure, but he knew that he couldn’t let this get him down too much. He was alone once again in his clan, mateless and a single father to five kittens who no longer had the sweet scent of their mother to lull them to sleep each night. The saddened truth as it was, the warrior had let it all get to him ever since he had let out a hardened wail of agony that day when he discovered her still form in the nursery, discovered by one of his daughters - Pitchkit. Within his own depression and grievance, Sproutwhisker had seemed to lose his place as a father and forget about his own children for quite some time, letting his weight decline and the color leave his eyes - making him look older and greyer than he actually was. Losing his father had been hard enough, so why her too? That was the question he asked himself constantly. Was he was a curse among cats that he grew close to? Was that why he was abandoned by his own birth family so many moons prior? These endless questions went through his head over and over again with no mercy as the tomcat sat there on the edge of the clearing, staring down at his paws with this lost, sunken expression deep within the male’s gaze. It was sad really, considering how bright and friendly the tomcat seemed at one time - happy to be with his friends and spend time with his children, including his own apprentice who was his adopted daughter at this point. What happened? Why did everything just seem like a dull blur in his life now? Questions, questions, questions. Swimming through the black-furred tomcat’s mindset with no clear end. “Talonfang..” The name of his mate whispered in Sproutwhisker’s thoughts, which made him shake his head - wanting to scream out once more in unholy pain. Who would be next to die? Blackbirdpaw? Flintheart? Hawkfeather? Who would he have to see next for the life to leave their eyes? Sproutwhisker straightened up, looking around the clearing at the other cats who inhabited it. Some looked in his direction, pity and maybe sympathy gleaming in their expressions, but it didn’t last long as they hurried away on with their lives. This type of behavior was identical to how Ripplewhisker was when he lost Swallowstorm, not by death by a broken heart. Maybe the next cat to die - would be him. Who knew these answers anymore? His dulled amber-hued eyes caught sight of a pair of dark-furred cats that he recognized - his daughter and son. His children. Jaguarkit looked like his mother, smelled like her and reminded him of her, but still, Sproutwhisker hated that Blackbird paw had to take care of him because he had been too careless. He wondered if they even wanted anything to do with him after he had fallen to madness and emotion since Talonfang’s death - to the point where he couldn’t even go greet them and stayed sat where he was. It was painful, living like this.

She laughed in her head, flicking hiring it probably wouldn’t be the nicest to comment her thoughts out loud. She was trying to make friends, right? But do you really want to be friends with this guy? Settingpaw studied the tom, taking note of his tall posture and the way he seemed to hold himself high. Like on a higher standard than others. You don’t really know him though. He could actually be very nice. Settingpaw argued with herself in her head, something she did often, though most if the time it was out loud.
She then averted her eyes quickly, realizing that she might’ve been staring at him for too long. At his question, her tail lashed once, more in annoyance than anger. “Yes. I’m new around here.” She meowed, in a way that seemed to say “I’m stating the obvious.” Settingpaw did not like to deal with small talkers, cats who just talked to say words. She liked meaningful conversations, conversations that she could get something out of.
Pleasantpaw did think very highly of himself. He didn’t look down upon his clanmates, he simply just found himself to be a very impressive cat. He didn’t think of others as inferior to him because he was too distracted with himself. Plus, he simply wasn’t the type who would think badly of others. He simply had no opinion on other cats because they mattered very little to him. Sure, there were a few cats who mattered to him and those were the ones that he had an opinion on. They were the ones who he actually noticed. Other than that, he kept to his own little corner of the clan and did his own thing.
He blinked at the she-cat, noticing how she was staring at him for a little longer than she should be. He smiled, pleased that he was making such a good first impression on the other apprentice. Pleasantpaw was assuming that she was staring at him because she was impressed with him as well. He couldn’t say that he was particularly surprised. After all, he was able to impress himself and he had very high standards.
The Tuxedo tom couldn’t help but roll his eyes at the she-cat’s response. He could very easily sense the annoyance in her tone of voice. “Alright, alright no need to be so sassy,” he chided, like a queen scolding their kit. “Well then, how did you end up here? I doubt my brother would let random strangers join the clan as they please,” he continued, referring to Fallenstar as his brother, rather than using his name. Well, at least he wasn’t making things up. Fallenstar was indeed his brother and the tom was very proud of what his older brother had achieved, even if he knew of the thoughts that lay beneath his brother’s thick fur. Fallenstar’s high position wasn’t what made Pleasantpaw arrogant. No, it only contributed to his high ego. There was nothing better to boost his confidence like being related to the clan’s leader.

so is this guy previously female?
..::;::..::;::..::;::..

Mockingfeather, the long-haired furball, was sitting by the prey pile, enjoying small raven. The she-cat dreaded this weather that was soon to come- soggy prey, puddles all around camp, high river waters, and soaked nests. It was bad enough that her long, oversized pelt of fluff was easily soaked through. The she-cat even dreaded hunting for that very reason; her pelt could stay wet and damp for moons in this thaw. Shaking out her fur, she kneaded the ground slightly before delicately laying on the ground. A small figure raced over to the prey pile before continuing hesitantly. This kit was big enough to look like an apprentice, but the kit fluff around their ears proved otherwise. Sighing, the warrior stood before walking slowly and contentedly to where the kit stood. "Are you old enough for such a big mouse? This thing's nearly as big as you!" she purred sitting in front of the kit.

[no, he's a calico tom. male calicos are rare and are most likely unable to have kittens]
Lotuskit looked up, his ears moving toward the taller she-cat. He laughed a bit at her comment. He pulled away from the mouse a bit, his belly full. "Y-yep! I am!" He mewed, looking down at the mouse.

OHHHHH THAT MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE xD
..::;::..::;::..::;::..

The silver-furred warrior purred again, smiling as the kit pulled away from the prey. "If you're still hungry, I didn't mean to offend you. You can keep eating," she apologized quickly, hoping that he really was full. Mockingfeather studied the kitten carefully. He had a deep, male tone- as deep as a kit's can get, of course- but he was a calico. Male calicos were impossible, right? Maybe he just had a deep voice. She attempted to tackle the question at a subtle angle. "Say, your pelt color is pretty rare!" She grinned at the kit, encouraging the tom.

"Great catch!" She congratulated. The light brown cat squeaked a bit as dust flew in the air and jumped at the bit of moss. Her front half twisted as her claws caught on the moss. Cypresskit landed much less than gracefully, but she had a sufficient hold on the mossball. She flicked it off her paw and back towards her friend with a laugh. This is fun. She thought to herself

It was painful, living like this.
Blackbirdpaw never minded taking on responsibilities. Especially when it was concerning matters of importance: five kits, regarding as her siblings had lost their mother. It was a painful experience for all to accept. Whenever Blackbirdpaw caught a glimpse of Sproutwhisker, she only imagined the worst. She knew most certainly that he was going through a grieving process, which was tough enough. For her, she didn’t understand how it must feel to lose the one you truly love. During their training practices he talked fondly of Talonfang. So fondly, that she almost felt an uncanny adoration for the queen. Gone, but never forgotten, Blackbirdpaw promised to look after her younger siblings, ensuring that their futures were of existence. It wasn’t hard to see how Sproutwhisker was on the edge of desperation. Trying to let go, holding on to the one thread that was a piece of the wife he lost. Pressing herself gently to Jaguarkit, she pressed her closest paw into the ground, alerting the disabled tom kit to imitate her movements. Good, Blackbirdpaw thought in a relief. When she began to move slowly, Jaguarkit stayed in place. Blackbirdpaw only stepped a couple distances away from him,
Not too far, as she was quite afraid to leave his side. She stomped her paw to the ground, the indication to the darker furred kit. Slowly, Jaguarkit had lifted himself up at feeling the small rumble close to him. He leaned forward to touch his companion, but she wasn’t presence. Jaguarkit gently stepped forward, coming towards Blackbirdpaw, but he veered onto another path. Quickly, Blackbirdpaw places herself by his side, using the tip of her tail to guide him. “Still need more practice, little guy.” She sighed. Blackbirdpaw was ready to repeat her motives until a familiar black furred tom cat entered her line of vision. Squinting her eyes, no doubt, they had landed on Sproutwhisker. Then, her ears pinned. She didn’t know whether or not he wanted to be alone. He always wanted to be alone since Talonfang died. She was certainly accusing him of being aloof to their existence. His kits needed him. They needed their father more than their big sister. It was easy for Blackbirdpaw to take on large responsibilities, as she held such a gigantic caring trait - but she still would had enjoyed being an apprentice. One thing Blackbirdpaw knew for certain; it was a terrible thing for someone wanting to be alone. Sproutwhisker needed the company even if he felt he didn’t. Mustering up confidence, as she was not the most naturally confident cat, the Molly guided Jaguarkit along with her, keeping side by side. When she approached Sproutwhisker, she flicked her tail, semi-happily. “Hey...Sproutwhisker,” she spoke, lowly. “Are you too busy to have company?” She wanted to give out a lighthearted conversation. Nothing moody or dark, those topics made her feel...unpleasant. Using her muzzle, she motioned for Jaguarkit to stand in front of her, so he could appear closer to Sproutwhisker. “I was making sure Jaguarkit get his daily round of exercise,” she softly smiled. “He’s making some progress. Trying to teach him to know certain movements can be a bit tough.” Blackbirdpaw herself had plopped down, having no intentions of moving a bone as she kept her father company. This made Jaguarkit slowly sit down as well, obviously hesitated as he didn’t know whether or not he was allowed to. When he felt no objections, he comfortably made himself shuffle about.
