Emberpool padded up to Foxclaw from behind him. She knew he smelled her, but she did not see his face because, well, she was behind him. "Hey Foxclaw." She greeted him through a mouthful of vole. "I brought you a vole. I figured you were hungry." She meowed with a shrug as she dropped it carefully at his paws. "I hope you are! That vole looks filling."

"Because that's just how it is, Inkjoy!" Why were the two cats having such a hard time understanding each other? Ashnose knew in his heart that everything he was saying was right. He didn't blame Inkjoy for not sharing the same opinion, but couldn't she just admit that at least some of what the tom was saying was right? "It's not entirely just about being in ShadowClan. It's about being a Clan cat and understanding the warrior code. My heart beats for my living Clanmates and my ancestors that are long gone. I understand and participate in our traditions. It's in my blood." It's not in his blood, is what the tom almost said, but he felt exhausted. Perhaps trying to reason with the she-cat was hopeless.

Emberpool nodded with understanding. His next question took her by surprise though and she looked at him, her eyes wide. Emberpool shrugged mysteriously. "Maybe I do, maybe I don't. What about you?" She asked, wanting to switch the subject off her.

Emberpool nodded in understanding as she gazed around the camp. "If I liked a cat they would know it soon enough." She said with another shrug. "Well maybe. If I don't make it clear I'll end up telling them. Time is so short these days, I don't really have time to wait if I want kits sometime." Her wistful thoughts seemed far beyond her years.
