To say Lionstorm was happy to be on this patrol was a lie. He wasn't, by any sense of the word, pleased with this. If anyone sucked the life out of this patrol, it'd be that brooding excuse of a SkyClan warrior. There was always some sort of attitude with her, and he was tired of it. "We should head toward the border with Seastones," he said loudly. "A lot of patrols will be going toward the river. We can avoid stumbling into someone if we head upstream."

Torrentfeather trotted through RiverClan's territory, a trout clamped between her jaws. All the ruckus with ShadowClan concerned her, but nearly every cat had been obsessed with the skirmishes between the two clans. Heck, it wasn't any of her business to get involved - Lionstorm hadn't sent her on the patrol, so why not fill the fresh-kill pile? She slipped through a patch of reeds on her way back to camp when she heard footsteps behind her. it's not some pesky ShadowClan cat trying to cause trouble, is it?

She turned around, only to see that the cat she had heard was a SkyClan apprentice - Dodgepaw, wasn't it? The black tom padded up to her, a mouse in his teeth, "I saw you were out hunting, and I tracked you. How'd I do?"

"Shouldn't you be with your mentor?" Torrentfeather wasn't a fan of all the SkyClan cats living among RiverClan's precious territory. With a swish of her tail she allowed him to follow, "Don't make a fuss, let's hurry and get back to camp."

Amberpaw straightened up out of her fighting stance, although the playful twinkle remained in her eyes. "I'm just messing with you. That's what friends do, right?" She asked, giving him another light poke in the chest, her smile softening to a gentler one. "Besides, I haven't had a lot of battle training, either. Not enough to be a good opponent," She added after a minute of silence. She'd learn how to be a better fighter one day, too. It would take time, that was all. Amberpaw didn't mind waiting - and besides, training could be pretty fun. It wasn't all easy, but it would all benefit her in the future.

"Hey, do you ever think about having an apprentice of your own someday? Like, how would you want to train them?" She thought about that occasionally, in quick flashes (usually when she was doing something Splashcloud had asked her to do for the hundredth time), and she'd never landed on a direct answer. It would depend on who she was in the future, and what her apprentice would be like, of course. Besides, there wasn't much use trying to think too hard about it. She had a ways to go before she would be a warrior, anyways. @Dipper

Fawnpaw scoffed softly and kicked his paw into the grass, the faintest of smiles on his muzzles. He appreciated the encouragement but wished there was more to it than pathos. "Oh geez, uh-- yeah, we better not do that until you've actually learned," he agreed, chuckling through his nervousness. "I mean, at least one of us should probably be a decent enough swimmer to get the other to safety if... something happens." Once it was out and he reflected on the morbidity of that, he winced; he hoped the mood wouldn't plummet from his overthinking, constant analyzing that occasionally could sink a social interaction. More earnestly, he said, "I wouldn't want anything to go wrong."

If the poke lightened his mood, it would be fair to say that the sentiment about their friendship had it soaring to the heavens, and he struggled to think through a rush of giddiness and flattery. He hadn't thought they were on bad terms, but to be considered friends... needless to say, Fawnpaw was grateful. "Yeah, that's... it is," he said upon realizing he hadn't responded, caught in the depths of his mind. "I don't really think you'd need to be a good opponent to win a battle against me. One time, I was battle training, and we had to stop because I bit my own cheek and started bleeding." It was a new level of pathetic for apprentice standards. "It's not that I wanted to, but Thistlestep--my brother, he was supervising the session--said we had to. I'm guessing your battle training has gone better."

Her inquiry raised his intrigue since it was different. Unusual. Something he hadn't given thought to before, and it was far from the small-talk that apprentices tended to entertain each other with. "I guess haven't," he admitted, then managed a smile. I figured I should probably focus on my own training before I look at training someone else." Once his little joke had died down, Fawnpaw grew more serious, opting to stay silent for a few seconds until he could reply, "I don't know, it's... worrying, and a lot to consider. You can't really choose your apprentice, so I see these cats like Lionstorm and Spiderpaw and she's just-- well, y'know." Terrible, but he didn't want to be the one to point that out. "Even if I have the best apprentice in all the Clans, I doubt I'd be a good mentor-- like, what if I forgot to teach my apprentice something? What if they just don't like me, or don't want to do anything? What if they... died?"

Pigeonpaw was wandering out through the camp entrance. She was trying to make it look like she wasn't sneaking out, but she was sure she probably wasn't supposed to be out here alone, without a warrior. She just wanted some fresh air! She figured it would be useful of her to make a trip to the river, and maybe bring back a few fish, just to feel like she was doing something. What she wasn't expecting was for Torrentfeather and Dodgepaw to be entering the camp at the same time she was leaving.

She gave a curt nod as a greeting, trying to be nonchalant, failing to hide the mischief and fear in her eyes.

Pigeonpaw's heart sank as Torrentfeather stifled her plans. "Well, I just...wanted to go hunting. I was so bored in camp and everyone was so busy!" Her tail drooped into the sand. She gave the warrior a pleading look. Please StarClan, don't let her make me go back into camp! She glanced at Dodgepaw, feeling bad for how Torrentfeather treated him. Maybe he would join her in sneaking out, if they could escape the warrior's judgmental gaze. She bet the SkyClan apprentice wouldn't mind sneaking out to spite her.

In her excitement, she was already bounding away towards the river, not waiting for the other two cats to catch up. She would bring back so much fish!
