ShadowClan Life Before Destruction

"StarClan has forsaken us once again," the leader called out, tipping her head to the sky. "It seems the only thing they've done that wasn't a mistake was appointing me as leader. Behold, our next misfortune." Icestar snarled, flicking her tail towards the medicine den.

Owlfeather and Hailstorm lumbered out somberly, supporting the weight of the lifeless body of Agaveheart between them. They carried her as carefully as they could into the clearing and laid her in front of the clan. Owlfeather's eyes were blank with grief, and the old cat didn't know how much more she could take. It seemed as if the clan was falling apart around her, and she couldn't do anything about it. She felt so helpless. Hailstorm, Owlfeather's grand-daughter and Icestar's youngest daughter, padded up to the old tortoiseshell to support her weight with her shoulder. The elderly warrior stared blankly and sightlessly at the ground, lost in her thoughts and her sadness.

"Agaveheart has passed away," Icestar announced once the medicine cat's body was settled in the center of the clearing. She waited for the gasps and wails to die down before speaking again. "We are left without a medicine cat once again. We will await a sign from our ancestors as to what we should do next, but if they take too long, I will decide myself what to do. Since it seems StarClan has turned their backs on us!" Her angry voice howled into the morning sky, as if she was directly challenging the starry cats.

The Shadowclan was sitting right underneath the highbranch with his daughter Flowerpaw hearing the announcement. His heart ached at the news that their medicine cat was dead. Nothing seemed to go right for Shadowclan. He had met the molly once, but it still impacted him a bunch. She had treated his wound before she passed. Crowtail looked at his clanmates with saddened eyes. He held back the tears as he watched Agaveheart's body be dragged into the middle of the clearing. Flowerpaw leaned against his shoulder for comfort, digging her hed in his fur. Crowtail gave her a lick on the head to help her with her grief.

Shadestripe let out small gasp, the sleepiness gone from his gaze. Agaveheart? DEAD? Oh, Starclan, what will we do? His vision clouded with worry. What would the clan do without a medicine cat? His heart pounded as he envisioned all the things that would happen to Shadowclan without one- and Agaveheart didn't even have an apprentice! But it was not only terror that was squeezing his heart right now. He would miss Agaveheart- perhaps not as much as some of the other warriors, he didn't even know her that well, but she had taken care of him whenever he got hurt, and provided good company as well. First we struggle through losing all of our medicine cats not once, but twice? Add that with the fire from Thunderclan, and it makes me wonder... does Starclan really want the clans of the forest to live here anymore? The thought caught Shadestripe off guard. But it might be true! I should talk to Icestar about this later...

"We going to leave soon, Beastspark?" Cascadespirit asked, sitting down and his tail flicking restlessly. "I don't want to get on Icestar's bad side if we don't get our tails moving."

The large tom took Cascadespirit's words to heart, he wasn't in the mood to get on Icestar's bad side especially when he wasn't certain what he had done to get on her good to start with. "Alright, come on let's head to the training grounds, the other two can meet us there." He told the tom. He and Cascadespirit could at least start while waiting for Fairthorn and Ashpaw. He took to leading the way out of the camp and to the grounds.

Fairthorn wrinkled her nose when Icestar selected her for the training ground-- not that she minded training, not at all! She just didn't care for the one who chanted off her name. Nevertheless, she turned and found her way to Beastspark and Cascadespirit. The Bombay nodded to the others before glancing around the clearing, trying to pick out her apprentice.

Crowtail’s Patrols

Crowtail dipped his head towards his leader before turning to his clanmates. The tom padded into the center of the clearing and cleared his throat. “Hailstorm, Rosethorn, and Dampbark I would like you three to go check out the Thunderclan border to make sure that fox left for good. Owlfeather you will lead that patrol.”, he said, raising his voice for them all to hear. Crowtail didn’t wait for them to say anything before he looked at a couple of other cats.

The Shadowclan deputy’s eyes met another group of cats inside the camp clearing. Crowtail padded up to them. “Smokeyfang, Lightfeather, and Elfinpaw I need you three to check the Windclan border. Smokeyfang you will lead the patrol.”, he ordered. The black tom turned away from them, heading into the warriors den to take a nap before he went hunting later.

It was a pleasant evening, comfortably cool and misty after the recent rainfall. As cats were settling down for the night, a dark grey she-cat made her way across the clearing, heading towards the fresh-kill pile for a quick bite to eat before bed. The she-cat happened to be Twilighteye, named for her dark grey coat and the fact she happened to be blind. Having been born that way, she has grown accustomed to where everything was, however she didn't happen to sense the tom sitting up ahead; exhaustion had clouded her senses. She suddenly tripped over the tom's tail, landing hard on the ground. "Ouch..." she meowed, sitting up and grooming where she had hit her shoulder, which had a jarring pain. Suddenly, the tom's scent flooded her nose, and she instantly felt bad. Hasn't he been through enough without her stupidity?! "I'm sorry, Pantherfang! I should've sensed you there..." she blindly tried to meet his gaze before she hung her head.

Having been cleaning his forepaw and focused on the darkening thoughts within his own head, Pantherfang did not notice the she-cat approaching until she'd fallen over his tail, and when she'd done that, he hadn't been aware that it was Twilighteye. He'd stood abruptly, ready to snarl and snap with his now sore tail lashing, only to stop dead at the sight of her upon the dusky floor. As annoyed as he had suddenly felt, he was not going to take it out on her. It wasn't as though she deserved it, and anyway, it was too late in the day to start in on someone. Yelling would have only given him a bad taste in his mouth, and who wanted to go to bed like that?
Giving an unnecessary shake of his head, he spoke, the tone of his voice low. "You're fine. I shouldn't have been in the way." He had attempted to be gentle when he spoke, but to his own ears, it still sounded harsh.
'How many moons have you been here, dungbrain?' He asked himself. 'You need to learn to talk.'
Taking a pawstep toward her, he was careful to let his muzzle brush against a whisker before he nudged against her bowed head. "That was a bad fall. Y' alright?"
The only plus to all of this was that he wasn't thinking anything depressing. Now, his only concern was seeing to Twilighteye.

"Badgerpaw," Icestar called out once she was done sending out patrols. "You and I are going to do some combat training today. I've been so busy that I've neglected the training that you very much need." She summoned her small apprentice to her side, towering over the black-and-white cat. Although the leader had far more important things to worry about than training one puny apprentice, she did know that this cat was among those who would be the future of the clan. What sort of clan would it become if the apprentices never received proper training?

"Come, let's go to the hollow." The massive she-cat barely waited at all for Badgerpaw to catch up before she began striding confidently out through the entrance barrier. She expected her to keep up.

Rosethorn let out a low scoff hearing that she was called for patrols. She had been cleaning her lovely son's luxurious pelt when interrupted by the call. "I'm sorry, darling. I have patrols to take care of so you'll have to finish cleaning the rest of your coat." Her voice was honeysuckle sweet as she spoke to the big-boned tom resting in front of her. Her son parted one amber eye with an upset hiss. Of course, that stupid deputy just had to interrupt his bath. As Rosethorn rose to walk over to the cats on her patrol, Tigerpaw got up stretched and then followed after his mother.

"I'm coming too." He announced like it was already set in stone. He was getting bored sitting around in camp all day and since Crowtail started taking Softpaw out for training it was getting harder to find time to pick on her. It was like the deputy was set on to ruin his amazingness. "Besides, Owlfeather hasn't been training me." This he said to his mother who gave the old she-cat a disapproving glare. Why hasn't that bag of bones retired yet? She thought to herself. Rosethorn never has and never will approve of Owlfeather as Tigerpaw's mentor, he could have had someone so much better. Rosethorn heard about the old medicine cat dying and whatnot, but she had no clue who she was, beside her being a medicine cat, and so didn't care much.
