Re: RiverClan Territory
[ @xeno @BILL. @Psycho Bandit ]
She needed some space. That was understandable. Being so young and yet seeing such gruesome sights, and being borderline bullied by her leader? Stoatdance felt remorse for the little black apprentice, looking at her with a frown pulling at her lips. She shook her head and offered a sigh, holding her tail over Bugpaw's shoulders.
At the report of a pest problem, the scarred molly looked up, focusing on Lionstar once more. She almost missed the gorey image in front of them. She glanced down at Bugpaw to make sure that the apprentice was fine before stepping away from her, moving toward the blood-stained snow and examining the black tufts of fur scattered about. "This place is certainly dangerous. I would say that no apprentices under the age of ten moons should be allowed around here, even if on a patrol with warriors. Not until the 'pests' are taken care of and it is proven safe again," Stoatdance suggested, "Given this sight here, we don't want to lose any more warriors for this reason- especially not apprentices." She straightened herself and nodded to Lionstar. "But it's your choice, ultimately. I am simply offering my opinion." Her head nodded and she stepped back to stand next to Bugpaw, brushing her fur against the little apprentice.

We don't need specifics yet, just tell me if you smell any prey nearby," Stoatdance mewed.

Silverpaw followed her mentor's nudge and adjusted accordingly. As she came into place, it was like her memory clicked, and she felt that she was (at least mostly) in the right position. This time, Silverpaw was determined to remember it for next time. She nodded at Stoatdance's words, and opened her mouth to better taste the air. Distant and lingering smells wafted into reach. She had to concentrate to make out which ones were relevant.
"I can smell mouse," she declared at first, pausing for a second. "And a squirrel."

After each patrol, Stormlily felt a little more discouraged, until she at last heard her name get called. Hunting? Well, that's alright. She perked up when she heard that Cobaltshade would lead the patrol. She was there with the fox, too. She'd been able to keep a cool head during the whole of the encounter, which Stormlily admired. Maybe they weren't exactly close, but it felt good to have her there, at least.
She meowed a greeting as she approached the patrol leader and waited for her to take the lead.
|
Briefly she would focus her eyes on her excited apprentice, this would be her first true patrol. Cobaltshade only hoped it wasn't like her last border patrol in which there was a fox, and with it being leafbare there wasn't bound to be much prey. She didn't have high hopes in terms of success for this, especially considering the river being practically unusable due to the cold temperatures, possibly even frozen over. Hopefully they could get lucky and find something though.
Dipping her head in both greeting and respect to Stormlily, a warrior she did, in fact, recognize from her previous patrol, she would quietly turn and lead them out of the camp. "Honeypaw I want you to tell me everything you smell as we make our way to the river. And I want you to be very careful about picking out scents, if you have a question, ask, because being able to scent something can mean the difference between life and death." Turning her head, she'd look to Stormlily, silently asking her to pay careful attention for any dangerous scents, specifically those of predators.

"How about you test your skills on a gull." Birchsnow suggested in a manner more like she was telling her to do so. With that the long furred warrior stepped away to allow her apprentice to try hunting one of the birds farther on the beach.

Pigeonpaw was ecstatic. At last, she could test out her skills! She was certain she was ready for this. She'd show Birchsnow how great at hunting she was, and then maybe she'd finally be able to get some battle training in! She wanted to leap for joy, but she forced herself to be still as she scoped out the horizon. She flicked one ear as she heard her mentor pad out of sight, to watch from a distance.
There! she spotted a gull, stepping gingerly on the cold sand, pecking at the ground for shellfish. It didn't look very big, but it would still be an impressive catch. She stalked towards it slowly, carefully... Agh! The bird had spotted her. But to her surprise, it didn't run away. And great StarClan, it was way bigger than she thought it was! It fluffed up its feathers and began charging at her, and as it did, Pigeonpaw yowled in fear.
It's now or never! She was not about to get her eyes pecked out by a stupid bird! once it got closer, she leapt at it. It flapped its huge wings, pummeling her as she clung to it, but the fluffy gray tabby knew where to strike. Using one of her double-wide paws to pin the bird's wing to the ground, she lunged at its throat and dealt the killing blow, not releasing until its wings had stopped beating. Pausing to gasp for breath, she whirled her head around to Birchsnow.
"I did it! I did it!" She meowed excitedly, her eyes full of fiery pride.

"Good. Which one would you like to try to catch? The mouse would be safer for now, but you may choose which one you want as long as you remain safe. I don't want my new apprentice getting injured on our first outing!" Stoatdance giggled in a teasing manner. She sat back and made sure to keep mental notes of Silverpaw's actions and replies, planning out the future training sessions. "When you're ready, go ahead."

Re: RiverClan Territory
@ GrassRipple @ The Cannibal
Stormlily merrily purred at the prospect of an apprentice getting to go on their first real patrol. I can almost remember it like it was yesterday. With a start, she realized she was thinking like an elder. Well, it would only be for all the better if I had the experience of one. Even if she wouldn't be an elder for a long while yet, she had learnt a thing or two during her time as a warrior. With the incident from last time freshly kept in mind, she gave a reassuring nod to the other warrior, before setting her focus on her surroundings. As of yet, everything seemed fine. Stormlily did notice a couple of fresh prey scents, but wanted to let the apprentice have their chance at it first.

Logically, Silverpaw knew that a mouse would be the best for someone with her experience, but since when had she actually listened to logic? Silverpaw had some memories of seeing her friends hunt squirrels, so even though she hadn't actually done it herself it shouldn't be too much of a problem. It could be fun, and worst case scenario it was a learning experience.
Silverpaw grinned. "I'll do the squirrel."
After tasting the air yet again to pinpoint the direction of the smell, Silverpaw crept forward through the undergrowth with her hunting crouch. She glanced at her mentor to see her reaction, before continuing her hunt. Slow first, then a quick attack, wasn't it? It didn't take long until the prey was in sight. I don't want to startle it...! She took a deep breath, before lunging out from behind with all of her speed.

Stoatdance followed her apprentice, making sure to remain far and quiet enough so she did not frighten off the prey. Her paws were light on the ground, gaze focused on every movement Silverpaw made. Taking notes, planning future training sessions, and more, she nodded along with each of her apprentice's actions. She's doing well, Stoatdance thought, Not much that needs worked on, only building up the skill. Let's just hope that she doesn't have an accident. She frowned at the thought, staring at her apprentice with a worried expression.

Minnowmist lead her patrol into the territory, though she noticed that one of them had not followed. "Wh- Where's Snakesong?" she questioned Hickoryblaze, her head tilting to the side. My first patrol and I've already lost a warrior! Lionstar is going to hate me... The silver molly frowned and swallowed the thickening lump in her throat, fear rising as no sign of the missing warrior was shown. "Have y-you s-seen them?"

Re: RiverClan Territory
"Let's head back to camp," Lionstar loudly announced to his patrol as he turned from the scattered remains to pad in the direction they came from. "There's nothing more to be done here. Stoatdance, Bugpaw, you both did well. ShadowClanner, next time you go on a patrol I expect more from you. You should feel honored Fallenstream even allowed you to join at all."
It was one thing if he seemed eager to be on the patrol, but despite volunteering it hardly felt like he was here at all.
Ending things on that note, Lionstar led them back to camp.
