Re: ThunderClan Territory
At Cherrybubble's fumble, Ashstorm cocked his head slightly, but decided not to push. It was clear that Cherrybubble and Tallmarsh were friends; Ashstorm didn't know either of them well, but they spent plenty of time chatting together in camp. He nodded at her suggestion and turned away from her, sliding deeper into the cover of the trees, trying to find something large to hunt. No opossum. With leafbare coming over the territories, he couldn't risk getting sick.
Crouching low, his ears pricked as he spotted a crow. The large bird was picking at some twoleg trash, bright, intelligent eyes scanning its surroundings. The size of the bird didn't worry Ashstorm as much as its cleverness. He kept his gaze on the bird as he started slowly maneuvering himself to a better position to pounce. When the crow lifted its head, he froze, then started again as it resumed eating. Start, stop. Start, stop. A less patient cat might have charged already, but Ashstorm didn't trust the sharp, gleaming beak of the bird.
Finally, he got near enough. He shifted his weight, bunched his muscles, and pounced. The crow screamed in fury as he landed on its back, its wings batting around his head and blurring his senses. Ashstorm was a skilled hunter, though, and he sank his fangs into its neck. It kept struggling, though it was clearly growing weaker. Taking pity on the thing, he shook his head violently, snapping its neck and killing it.

Re: ThunderClan Training Cave
Pinepaw walked along quietly with the other warrior. Her mentor had been either too busy or unseen a lot in the past while. She was beginning to worry about him. He must be up to something really important. She sighed as they entered the training cave, maybe she would be given a new mentor to fill in while he was too busy. She wondered what they would be working on today, hopefully more of the basics as she barely knew anything about fighting.

The bengal smiled back, her enthusiasm growing as they left the camp. She thought for a moment before shrugging. "My defense needs to be worked on, I suppose," she answered, head tilted up to look at Dustbreeze. Leopardpaw glanced around the territory before focusing her gaze straight ahead, wondering what the warrior was planning.
|
Dustbreeze nodded. She had brought the apprentice to the territory for a different approach to training. With so many other cats currently assigned to fighting practice, the training cave would have been so stuffed. It would be much easier to train in the open, and more realistic too. Plenty of distractions, and lots of obstacles to overcome. She smiled at the apprentice.
"Well why don't we warm up first, get you ready and moving hard before working on some defense. If we just start with that it'll be too easy." She looked around at the dense underbrush of pine branches and turned back to the apprentice with a grin. She knew it might be a little unconventional, but it was a good way to warm up and focus on some agility training. Plus, as an apprentice, if you got into a dangerous battle it was good to know how to chase and run away quickly.
"Catch me if you can!" Dustbreeze meowed teasingly then dove between the pine trees, ducking under low branches and trying to choose a path difficult enough for the apprentice to have to really focus on quick movements while being aware of their surroundings.

"Good job Pantherpaw, I'm surprised you know that much!" The tom's green eyes blew wide for extra effect as he stared at Pantherpaw, a highly exasperated impressed expression crossing his features. "Since Pantherpaw has so graciously made us aware of the prey in this area, let's continue following the scents." He was sure they would come upon some rabbit tracks in the snow soon enough, and Flintstar wanted to see what Pantherpaw would make of those. The large black-furred tomcat turned to Pinepaw, pointing his tail ahead. "Pinepaw, since you picked up the scent first, would you like to begin leading us that direction until it grows stronger?" He asked. Flintstar wasn't going to joke around with Pinepaw, no, she was being truthful in her abilities. Pantherpaw though, that was a different story. "And Pantherpaw, as we're walking, can you describe to Pinepaw and I the difference between a mouse scent and a squirrel scent?" The leader's cheeky smile was enough to give himself away, but he couldn't help it. This was absolutely enjoyable.

Ah, shoot. Flintstar was definitely onto him. But Pantherpaw couldn't back down from his bluff now, not when he was this far in already. He followed diligently alongside his sister as he thought of what he could say next to convince his new mentor that he knew what he was talking about.
"Uh...Mouse is...a sweeter scent than a squirrel. Yeah." He nodded confidently once more, satisfied with what he'd come up with. "And squirrel smells more savory, uh, because they're bigger, I think."

Cranerose smiled. "Well, I thought about it, and maybe it would be fun to just visit the Sea Stones where the gatherings usually are, but, you know, when there isn't a gathering?" she suggested. "Just the two of us visiting such an important place could be romanti- I mean fun! Yeah, it could be fun!" she quickly explained. She nodded towards Sharpclaw as if to silently ask 'What do you think?'

(nonono totally my bad, I missed this when doing replies yesterday!)
Pinepaw gave a sly smile at her brother and kept her nose turned down. She was amused by his response, how did he get so much training so fast? Could he really already recognize the difference between prey or was he bluffing? By the answer he gave, likely bluffing. She also played the game often with her mentor, but hadn't wanted to infront of the leader. Obviously her brother had gotten much more comfortable around Flintstar. Her tail flicked behind her and she took the lead as the leader had asked.
"I think it's this way." She wanted to tease her brother a little but also didn't want to embarrass him infront of his mentor so she kept her mouth shut. If she were with any other apprentice though she would have said a little quip against his reasoning between a mouse and a squirrel. Closing her eyes for a moment, she tasted the air and caught the rabbit scent a little off to the east. She began stepping more carefully as the smell was quite strong and didn't want to scare the prey away. As much as the wanted to find the animal's tracks and stalk it like she had done with squirrels. She also recognized the wind was blowing the wrong way and would notify the prey of them. So they would have to go slow with their noses in the breeze and hope to spot it before it spotted them.

The black-and-white feline ducked down upon coming closer to the squirrel, her green eyes shining with excitement as she stalked the fluffy russet creature. She made sure to keep her pawsteps light and soundless, movements skillful and precise, her tail low to the ground and her ears pointed upwards only slightly, so she could detect and sudden movements. Soon enough, Cherrybubble was pouncing on the squirrel, her paws landing neatly where she'd been aiming them too, and she killed it in once swift bite. It was a clean pounce-and-kill, one of her better ones that Cherrybubble was quite proud of.
Picking up the squirrel in her jaws, the molly padded back towards where she and Ashstorm had split off, placing the squirrel under some dead leaves beneath a trees roots. She'd been glad that Ashstorm hadn't said anything about her earlier fumble, and could only hope he didn't mention anything about it. As she was pushing more leaves atop the squirrel, a very strong scent caught her nose, being brought on by the small breeze blowing through the territory. What is that... some kind of bird...? It definitely did have the strong scent of a bird, though it was slightly muskier than most of the songbirds found within Thunderclan's territory. Cherrybubble spotted Ashstorm with his crow after a moment, and she waved him over with her tail, signalling for him to keep quiet. The scent was coming closer, it's as if it didn't even know the cats were there.

Re: ThunderClan Territory
Spotting Cherrybubble, Ashstorm lifted his crow proudly for her to see. It wasn't the plumpest bird he had ever caught, but it was a big one, and it would feed some kits or a queen quite nicely. A good family dinner, if he did say so himself. It would round out the fresh kill pile nicely.
At the sight of her tail waving, though, he went quiet, padding over as silently as he could with the crow dragging between his front legs. The bird was too big to carry any other way; it would lose some feathers, maybe get a few scratches, but it was dead. It wasn't like he was torturing the thing.
A strange scent hit his nose and he paused, one paw lifted. His ears swiveled around as he took in the odd scent of bird. At least it wasn't the possum. Ashstorm wasn't sure if the oversized rodent would go out of its way to fight them for some food, but he didn't want to risk it. Of course, there were plenty of birds that could do damage to a warrior, from hawks to owls. He grimaced as the crow's body rustled the leaves beneath him. Dropping it, he quickly covered it with some leaves and twigs before sniffing at the air again. Brow slightly furrowed, he glanced at Cherrybubble. Maybe she recognized it?

The sudden movement of the warrior surprised her, bringing her to a halt. She blinked in confusion for a few heartbeats before the realization set in, her ears flattening. Catch me if you can! rang in Leoparpaw's ears before she was leaping forward and racing in the direction of the warrior, her paws thudding against the ground. She swerved through the undergrowth, though she tripped on a root once or twice, snagging her pelt on some brambles. The Bengal pressed onward, however, racing after the warrior as fast as she could manage. You can do this! she thought, determination shining in her gaze. She then spotted Dustbreeze's pelt ahead of her and used all of her strength to push forward, trying to pinpoint the exact distance of where she would need to jump. Her tail flicked before she sprung forward, hoping that she had judged correctly. She didn't want to make a fool of herself.
