"Did Otterleg and Darkpaw try to help you with the rogue?" Lionstar questioned as Ripplestep entered his den and made her report. "You said they were there and that you took care of it by yourself. If they didn't help you.. why not?"

"I..." She stopped, feeling her throat close up as she tried to speak, a mixture of shame and something else heating up her pelt. "It's not that they didn't try to help...I just didn't know if they'd be able to handle the rogue, and I didn't want them to get hurt so..." she lowered her head as she spoke, eyes drifting downwards and ears flattening in remorse, "I made them stand back while I took care of it." As the words came out of her mouth she could feel her fur heat up more and more. Stars, she sounded so stuck up. She just didn't want them to get hurt was all. It was her job as patrol leader to keep everyone safe, right?

Oh, yes. Lionstar would've agreed with her if she voiced her concerns about being stuck up. This wasn't very PC of Ripplestep at all!!! How alarming!!!

"Ripplestep..." Lionstar's voice lowered. "I think we need to arrange a meeting between you and Fawnsqueak so he can work on fixing your.. discriminatory thoughts!

"Otterleg might have three legs, darling, but it doesn't stop her from being a strong, capable, dependable warrior who can kick ass if she needs to. I understand being concerned about Darkpaw, of course you're free to be-- they're an undertrained apprentice trying to get back on track. But never doubt the strength of our wonderful, strong-willed Clan-mates!"

Sunblaze's ears flushed red. It took all he had not to hide his face in his chest fur. Lionstar was such a charmer. Oh, if only he had his natural charisma. "Oh, it was nothing, really. Just me being clumsy.. haha." His tail curled nervously around his hind legs as he began to back away from the den, looking for an opportunity to take his leave without seeming rude. "I'm sorry, but I really should be on way. You seem busy with.." He glanced at Dirtfur and swallowed. "Other.. matters.. Excuse me." And with that, he scampered off.

Ripplestep
The young warrior flinched, more at his words than tone of voice. She hadn't really seen herself as a discriminatory sort of cat, but as he spoke and the more she thought about it: she kind of was. She hadn't trusted Otterleg to be able to hold her own against the rogue since the molly only had three legs. But if the she-cat hadn't shown herself to be a capable warrior then Lionstar wouldn't have let her go on the patrol, let alone call herself a warrior and receive an apprentice. Something even Ripplestep herself didn't have.

"Yes, sir." She acknowledged when he finished, raising her head from it's previously humbled position. Her green-brown eyes, while still clouded with guilt, now held glints of a new-found awareness. "I'll be sure not to make that mistake again."

Now that Sunblaze is gone-- time for Dirtfur's discussion with the leader. "Lionstar, there is a sick kit in the nursery, and I'm afraid it might affect our clanmates," he glanced nervously at the nursery den from afar. "I know that damn medicine cat doesn't know a thing of curing infections and such," he remarked just in case if Lionstar wants Shiverpetal to cure the kit. "Do you have any ideas, or you're gonna do nothing and sit your ass down all day?" he challenged his leader accidently. His mind was filled up with worry -and weary, dealing with things that came to his way- of the sick kit. The tabby didn't utter an apology, but did have an apologetic twinkle in his eyes.

"You are dismissed, Ripplestep." He was pleased she seemed to realize her distasteful mistake, and he was willing to let her off today-- hopefully a little wiser. [ @mochi ]

Now, his attention was fully on Dirtfur but so far he could hardly care. "So remove the kit from the nursery and have it be quarantined in the medicine cat den. Shiverpetal might not be the most skilled at healing, but it'll stop the spread of the illness if it's contagious." An obvious choice..

But it seems, Dirtfur as deputy was something he should reconsider given the sudden attitude. Lionstar hadn't even been sitting-- was this guy that daft? He was only in his den when it was time for patrols to report back or he needed to speak with cats privately. "Get out of my sight." His voice had taken on a sudden coldness, devoid of any emotion beyond a chilling calmness. "Now."

Apologetic or not, that behavior would not be tolerated.

The deputy let his tail go straight down, touching the sandy floor. What burns more? The skinned shoulder, or the cold tone given by the leader himself. The tom's ears flattened and drifted his clouded amber eyes onto the stone ground. Reluctantly, he padded out of Lionsden backwards, turned, and sadly strolled back to the nursery.

What a bizarre interaction. Lionstar didn't think Dirtfur had the right to look so sad when he had that coming.

Shaking his head, Lionstar headed out of his den himself. He didn't want to see a hair of Dirtfur for the time being, but he did want to speak to Fawnsqeak about what just happened.

Ripplestep
The tabby warrior dipped her head in a silent thank you to her leader, grateful that Lionstar let her off with little more than a stern slap on the wrist. Something she deserved, she supposed. She couldn't believe how closed-minded she'd been towards her clanmates. Just because she had been a talented apprentice and rookie warrior, it didn't give her the right to think her other clanmates were helpless.

At his dismissal, she turned and padded quietly towards the entrance, leaving Dirtfur and Lionstar to their discussion. Her thoughts were so busy trying to rearrange her previous opinions and original disposition, that she didn't even notice the strange air between the two higher-ups as she left.
