Re: ShadowClan Territory
Great. He had finally been trusted to lead a hunting patrol and he got saddled with not one, not two, but three apprentices. He figured he'd have to carry the success of the group. Not bothering to check for the three behind him, he parted his jaws to smell the air. Distinctly... froggy. Ugh. With a snap of his tail, he beckoned his party. "Keep on the lookout, it seems there's a lot of frogs in the area. We might get lucky and be able to catch multiple." Thistlethorn was really not looking forward to this.

Falcondive had to take a moment to figure out how he wanted to go about this.. he felt rusty, out of his comfort zone when he had been so accustomed to keeping his thoughts to himself. This was different than when his father walked the Clan: there was a lot more resistance, and this young she-cat was probably tainted by them..
"Yes, I will be taking you to the borders and showing you the Waterbarn." Escape routes she could get to when she was a queen.

Blackpaw nodded, trying to scent any prey

Thornpaw nodded and paused to scent the air. She quickly caught up with the patrol. Her ears swiveled around, straining to hear the sound of a frog.

Re: ShadowClan Territory
Eaglepaw nodded and shook her creamy brown pelt. She was excited to see the territory. "Okay! But why are we only going to see the Water barn? What about the training grounds?" She looked at Falcondive, a little confused.

Re: ShadowClan Territory
"Of course you can try this time," Frostpaw replied. As for what else the molly needed to know? "See if you can track the prey down yourself. They should have the same scent as fresh-kill, for the most part, but fresher." The white apprentice thought for a moment. How did loners learn to hunt? Trial and error, according to Lion and Ravenpaw. But they didn't just stumble upon prey-animals purely through luck. The ability to scent out prey was instinctive to an extent. A new hunter can distinguish the scent of another animal, they just can't tell what the animal is. It might be a mouse or a badger depending on their luck. He signaled silently for Nightpaw to go ahead and start if she hadn't already. Where was Fallenheart? The question waltzed into his mind for a second before he pushed it away again. They could track down the dark tabby warrior later. Frostpaw was sure that he could handle keeping themselves out of trouble for now.

Jaggedclaw padded to the undergrowth and awaited his apprentice, for she had yet to arrive. @ LionKitKat

Re: ShadowClan Territory
Cypresspaw padded after her mentor and into the territory. She looked around. This was a part of Shadowclan she had wanted to see for a long time. I finally get to see what its like outside of camp, she thought, full of excitement.

Re: ShadowClan Territory
"Okay, in order to hunt frogs, you have to be silent and quick, because frogs can hop right out of your grasp." Jaggedclaw thought for a moment, trying to remember what his mentor told him. "Frogs are also slippery, so make sure you have a strong, firm grip with your claws. Or you could just kill it." @ LionKitKat

Re: ShadowClan Territory
"o-ok-ay" Nightpaw mew, giving a small nod as Frostpaw signalled for her to go ahead. She didn't pad of right away, however, and instead took the moment to open her maw and breathe in and out. She was starting to like the weird technique. After a few breaths and scents had rolled of her tongue, the young apprentice caught a.. very familiar scent- the only one she probably knew well enough to recognise to what creature it belonged to. She quickly glanced back to the other apprentice before setting her mind to not loosing the said scent and padding of in the direction it had come from- leaving it up to Frost wether he would follow or not.
To no surprise, she lost the scent a few times but managed to find it again thanks to, of course, the breathe n' smell- technique.. as she now liked to call it. Soon enough, as the scent seemed to get stronger, Nightpaw finally spotted the little thing she thought she was finding: the mouse, and luckily it really was a mouse. A relief. As soon as having spotted the little thing, Night slowed her pace and lowered her own height, trying to go less noticed. She slowly came closer to the mouse, luckily the wind going in the opposite direction than she was, the molly trying to make as little sound as possible when suddenly- she heard a snap beneath her paw. It was twig- her eyes darted from the twig back to the mouse who-- didn't budge? Did it not hear the twig? Maybe it was deaf.. yeah, that might just be it.
Nightpaw let a small breath of relief before continuing to the average size mouse. After a few steps, the apprentice dropped into the position Stormlily had taught her, before leaping at the small thing, only to merely catch it's tail before the creature pulled away with a peep. Her gaze soon fell back to the at first stumbling mouse, and and she quickly pushed herself up, only to take a step or two before jumping at the small creature again. This time, however, it didn't get away. And Nightpaw's eyes widened in surprise as she could feel the mouse's body beneath her paws- did she.. did she really do it? The white molly almost couldn't believe it, and so carefully lifted her paw to see it's lifeless body. She really did it.. she caught a mouse! It's tiny head was slightly squished, and Nightpaw assumed that must have been the cause of it's death, as she hadn't really unsheath her claws.
Proud with her first ever catch, the apprentice carefully picked it up and turned around to walk back to the other. "Fro-Frostp-aw, lo-look!" she mew happily in as the white tom came clearer into view, sitting down once she reached him. Her voice was still quiet and now slightly muffled from the mouse, yet this time there was a joyfulness to it, or perhaps even exitement. She was happy to have caught something for the first time!
