Doveheart didn’t want anything bad happening to Thistlepaw, she wanted to prove that she could be a good mentor, and she wanted Thistlepaw to like her.

"Sounds good to me," Thistlepaw said, giving her a warm smile. As far as he was concerned, Doveheart was the best cat he's ever met. She wasn't all prickly and mean like a lot of Shadowclan cats, and he was actually beginning to think that being a warrior might not be so bad.

Doveheart led Thistlepaw over to her favorite spot in the territory, she made sure to watch for any more treacherous roots that might hurt her apprentice.
When they arrived at the spot, which was a fallen tree next to a small pool of water, Doveheart smiled and said,
“You like it? It’s my favorite spot here because when the light hits the water just right I can see a rainbow of colors. Also, your throat ok?”

"Yeah, I'm ok," Thistlepaw meowed. "And I see what you mean. It's really pretty here." He sat down, curling his tail around his paws. Truth was, his throat was still aching, but he didn't want to have to go back to camp just yet. He'd be fine.

“I’ll see if I can catch us a couple mice, I would teach you to try today, but I don’t want to risk causing a bigger problem with your throat, stay here,” Doveheart replied.

She padded off to find the prey and scented a mouse almost immediately, crouching low she stalked forward before she pounced and landed squarely on it, killing it quickly with a snap to the neck. She found another after but a moment, she killed that one too and padded back to the spot where she had left her apprentice.

Thistlepaw looked up as she came back with the mice. "That was quick," He said, surprised. "Guess we must have a lot of prey, huh?"

“Either that, or I just happened to find a nest, anyway, here you go,” Doveheart replied, setting the mouse down in front of Thistlepaw, “You seem like a nice cat, I’m glad I got you as an apprentice and not a boastful kit who says they should be made a Warrior right away, I’ve had a few of those and who boy! Did they ruffle my fur!”

Honeycreeper tried to ignore the continued pain in his jaw as he continued, he wasn't going to let her feel bad about doing what he'd asked her to do.
"Now for defensive. Duck and twist. You pull your weight sideways and down, rolling onto your back, and springing back up to retaliate." He tucked his head low, allowing his front legs to give out and push with the hind legs so he rolled back to front to back again, using his momentum to skitter from in front of Venompaw to almost right behind her before exploding in a flurry of energy a bouncing back onto his feet.
A muscle in his back pinched and he hunched a bit. "Oh, I shouldn't have done that."

"Hm Im gonna have to practice this a little,also sorry for hitting you too hard" Venompaw said hoping she didnt hurt him too much. "sideways, down, roll, spring back up on your feet.." she mumbled as she hung her head low "sideways and down" she mumbled as she let her front legs give out while she pushed with her hind legs just like her mentor did. "Roll onto my back" she said quietly as she rolled onto her back "and spring back up" she said using a bit of momentum to push herself back up.

He watched Venompaw do her roll and nodded whenever she murmered to herself, hoping to encourage her. When she finished the last bit, the tip of his tail flicked about.
"Good work!" He hadn't expected her to be able to complete the full move on her first try, but he was very pleasantly surprised. It was one of the more complex defensive tactics, but he was glad she did well.

"Thank you, Im gonna have to practice that a little more so I will be able to do it a bit faster...what is next?" she asked "or we can take a break because of your back" Venompaw meowed, she didnt want her mentor to get even more hurt from the training. Her tail flicked back and forth as she waited for her mentors reply
