Berryscorch ducked quickly into the den, noticing a decently sized crowd had already taken place. And thinking back to the meeting, Lionstar had called quite a large amount of cats over to see him, so she was curious to see how many of them might actually become guards. It surely couldn't be all of them, could it?

Goosefury slipped into the den after the others, eyeing them carefully. They were all meant to be camp guards? There were... quite a lot of them. He didn't really see how this would work, unless they were all completely spread out over the course of the day. And even then, that would be short shifts. He edged his way to the side and sat down with his tail over his paws.

*Redspot stepped sideways for the cats after him*

Frostpaw mewed quietly "is there anything i can do to help around camp?"

Iceflower entered the den with an air of business surrounding her, scanning the crowd to gauge the status of the other cats who Lionstar had called in. If they'd be.. suitable for what she was planning. One's eyes were too small, the other had a too-masculine stance, no, no... Those wouldn't do. Another's ears weren't symmetrical. Unacceptable.

[BEAR.]

"Yes, I requested for all of you to come here."

Enough time had passed to give everyone who wanted to come a chance to arrive.

"All of you are here because I am in need of guards for our camp. This may sound extreme, I know.. but it appears having what guards were posted is not working out. So listen up.

"I plan on placing you on duty somewhere around our camp. In specific dens, in the clearing, even in charge of some spots around our territory. I know it might seem complex, but if we could .. discourage our Clan-mates from misbehaving, and if we could keep those damn random outsiders out of our land.. I think, after a while we could reduce the amount of guards active, but for right now I want to make the restrictions known because our current system is not successful.

"If this is agreeable to you, then I will go into where you'll be assigned. You will be excused from patrols and, if you wish, apprentice training assuming you have one while you remain active in your guard position. If you wish to be placed on patrols, you can request so.

"If this is not agreeable.. you may leave." Lionstar would give them a moment to decide, brow furrowed. He called quite a few cats, he was surprised more didn't show.

"Sounds good to me."
Flyfur muttered. Really, she still wanted to do herb gathering and border patrols at the very least. Maybe have an apprentice eventually, but considering her apprentices had a habit of disappearing, even if she asked for one, they probably wouldn't last.
Best if she didn't try for an apprentice, then.

Lionstar didn't really care that Fawn seemed to have tried to offer an abortion to Flyfur. He was in full support of it! "Maybe you should have done it anyway," he muttered sourly, not with Fawn but with the few dozen kits without parents. "Forced her to adopt those in need instead of make more." He was having a hard time thinking the pregnancy was unplanned when it seemed so out of the blue.

"I don't understand these queens," he admitted to Fawnsqueak. "Doesn't it seem selfish they'd want biological kits over just.. having kits? We have orphans and they'd rather make more than help them."

Fawnsqueak tipped his head, utter confusion crossing him at that. "Done it anyway?" he echoed while wondering what precisely that meant, if the grisly statement was to be taken literally or if this was some twisted figure of speech. When he'd come in here feeling bitter with himself, he'd expected consolation and disappointment from Lionstar, not full support of his poor behavior.. but he could kind of see where the guy was coming from, why he wouldn't want more kits brought into the Clan when there were plenty who needed even one parental figure. "I mean, yeah, that... that would be ideal, but I don't really think it's feasible.." They couldn't control cats' decisions to make kits but discouraging them and providing alternatives did seem better.

"Yeah, it's selfish," he agreed, shrugging, "but it's still ..I guess, their right to do that? It doesn't make it okay or anything, but it's... still their choice." The self-absorbed mindset that was required to pass over adopting a kit to spread their own genes was ludicrous and narcissistic, but Fawnsqueak nevertheless acknowledged the perfect worldview was unobtainable. There were always going to be breeders who made kits spur-of-the-moment and didn't think about other options.

Fennelheart was surprised he trusted her to be a camp guard,” I’ll do it.” she offered hopeful that she’d get a good post.

Eveninglight gave a nod,” I’ll happily help out with guarding.“ she meowed proudly.

after listening to lionstar's entire.. speech? was that what dayheart could call it? there were a lotta words... so he was going to assume it was a speech. after he was done listening, dayheart swished his tail excitedly. "this is agreeable!! i agree!!" dayheart agreed to it eagerly.
