Jaran sighed, "Suit yourself, firewall." He stood still, waiting for her to attack him. He knew it was coming. She was pissed again, and she seemed too damn stubborn to listen to him.

Paige couldn't bring herself to attack; she was exhausted. She didn't use the right techniques; it had drained her energy due to the lack of efficiency. And who was she to challenge an ISO? She saw how well they fought.

Jaran didn't flinch or anything, he was practically a statue of an ISO. He had no reason to attack her. So he didn't. He'd rather get to Mara's without a dead body. Or an injured one.

She pulled out her transmitter and began to speak into it. "This is commander Paige. I'd like to report an ISO contamination near the central Argon garage. Subject has fair skin, white circuitry, and dark hair. I'm... unable to give chase."

If she couldn't get him, the Black Guard would.

She wasn't about to tell him she let him go.

She opened her own and rewound to the time when she was viewing the data archives of Pavel's experiments. It was glaringly obvious, although the original test subject wasn't Amber.

"Alright, so how am I supposed to judge which of you is telling the truth?" Tesler argued, looking over at Pavel, waiting for his defense.

(Disc "cameras" are always active- they're visual representations of a program's memories and experiences.)

"A subject with the codename 023-SKY, from the logs I saw. You wrote this program went rogue, and you replaced her with a firewall soldier with a similar enough physique to substitute for the original."

Tesler raised an eyebrow at Paige's defense, not believing her story. "How come you know so much about this experiment business, anyway?"

"With all due respect, sir, I'm only repeating what I saw in those logs. You can see for yourself." Tesler snatched her disc and began scanning her memories.

"And what prompted you to turn Pavel in? What made you want to expose his actions so badly you'd go to the lengths you did?"

Paige faltered for a moment. "He was harming an innocent soldier for... for some reason, I don't know exactly why, but... torture. You saw it yourself, General. He's been running these tests under your nose for who knows how long, and what is it going to lead to? You've seen Pavel's devices." she lowered her voice, so that the commander in question wouldn't hear. "He could be plotting to destroy you by turning your own soldiers against you."
