A Rematch

Marigoldpaw grinned. She was ready for her and Shrikepaw's rematch. She sat ina clearing...with some rocks. It was really close to camp so she thought it would be fine. Plus the queens might yell at her if she fought Shrikepaw there. The golden she cat shuddered. She didn't even realize Shrikepaw was now there.

Ghosting out from behind the bush the (now average, finally) tom snuck up behind his sister silent as a mouse aiming dead at her large fluffy tail. Despite his dark forest training he had the sinking feeling his sister would kick his tail and would do his best to drive her mad before then. As soon as he was close enough he quick as a flash lunged forward to try and grab Marigoldpaws tail with a muffled cackle. He would be gentle for the most part but still hard enough to make it noticeable and gave a few yanks, ducked low to avoid any retaliatory swipes before darting away still laughing softly.
"You really need to work on your awareness sister or next time I sneak up on you it'll be in front of your mentor..." A semi idle threat to get Marigoldpaw to charge him, he figured his littermate wouldnt stand for the potential embarrassment in front of her teacher and would hit him for his antics. Good. No time to chit chat it was time to spar!

Marigoldpaw smirked not that offended by Shrikepaw’s comment. Still she took him speaking as an invitation to start the fight so she lunged forward aiming to grab his “throat” though not roughly. She had almost no doubt in her mind he’d avoid it. Let him. Suck at first but then...the real fun would begin after he’d tired himself out a little and was less suspecting of her. They hadn’t had a fight in a while so Shrike shouldn’t know all she was capable of. Plus there was no doubt she’d win! Marigoldpaw had more practice and real life experience with a battle!

Shrikepaw couldn't beat his sister he knew this, despite his darkforrest training, despite his growing experience he would not be able to win against Marigoldpaw. Even if he heart the heart or want to gut his littermate like he'd so easily do to the rest of his clan he knew his claws would hesitate at her throat, and hesitation meant death. Even in this friendly spar the delay combined with his sisters strength and (different than his but still powerful) training meant she would win against him. But that didnt mean he couldnt give her a run for her money. Shrikepaw had tricks and sneaky ones now and he would use them.

Doing a short little jump over his sisters paw he slammed his weight down, hoping to pin the offending limb in place with his back legs and bulk as his font paws reached up to grab his sisters face between them firmly in place. In a normal battle if he pulled this off his claws would be digging in mauling any cats pretty face but her it was to just and try and prevent a lunging snap. Then! Well then he pulled out one of his most cheeky moves. Jaw opening wide Shrikepaw attempted to close it straight over Marigoldpaws nose, its wouldnt be a quick nip sure but he wouldnt sink his teeth in like he was trained to.

So if the move was accomplished the interesting sight would be complete; A brother sat on his sisters outstretched paw, a firm grip with both paws on the sides of her face, and jaws over her nose with the smuggest mad grin ever. Let it not be said Shrikepaw was a boring brother.

Marigoldpaw had been expecting her brother to dodge or roll away...maybe even try and wipe her off her paws, not this....whatever it was. So with her brother holding her front paws against the ground and her snout clasped between his paws she stared blankly at him for a moment. The lack of claws made sure the move wasn’t that painful almost surprised her. With her life not hanging in the balance or even the risk of mauling it took a second or two before she processed everything. When she did she let out a low snarl.

Her brother was clever she granted him that. Yet when he closed in to bite her nose Marigoldpaw was having none of it. Deciding to attempt a wolf move she forced her head down so Shrikepaw’s open jaws would sail right over her head the golden apprentice then jerked her head back up hoping to hit her brothers neck or jaw with her head. If it worked....ow. On both sides.

A cheeky move rewarded with a snarl and Shrikepaw was feeling pleased with himself. Still he expected retaliation so when the blow came he managed to dart back, his sisters head only clipping the edge of his muzzle (ow) before he put some distance between them. "Well played Marigoldpaw that move is perfect for you I'd say, your head is hard enough to knock even a badger unconscious." The monochrome tom snarked taunting the larger sibling before charging once more.

Darting around Shrikepaw flicked his fluffy tail up infront of Marigoldpaws muzzle to distract her while he darted to the side to flank her before yanking it away right before it could be snapped at. That measure completed he lunged, attempting to batter his sisters side with a barrage of blows before she could recover.

“Thanks for the compliment I’ll keep it in mind next time I run into one of em!” Marigoldpaw replied of a haughty grin. She was proud of herself for not falling prey to Shrikepaw’s antics. Now if he’d said that a couple moons ago she’d probably have a ruder response but she was a little more sued to being teased now what with Pipsqeak’s new nickname for the golden apprentice.

Marigoldpaw was still smirking when her brother charged. As he once again taunted her-only this time with his black and gray tail- she took her chance and aimed a snap at it. Sadly she was a moment too later for Shrikepaw soon darted out of reach this time a lunge at green eyes Molly. She let out an amused snarl but regaled back in slight surprise as he stated to batter her sides with blows.

Letting out a low growl she attempted to dodge them docking, jumping, and swerving. A decent amount hit but a decent amount missed as well. Soon Marigoldpaw started to anticipate them and got a little better at dodging. So when Shrikepaw aimed yet another blow she ducked before leaping back up and trying to close her jaws over his paw. As she did that she also used her paws to kick up dirt right into Shrikepaw’s face in an attempt to blind him. Temporarily of course.

"You better not run into a badger after how that fox interaction went." He teased (slightly serious, he didnt want his sister dead afterall) referring to her crooked tail snickering lightly.
So it seemed that his darkforrest techniques were effective against the living too even if they done sheathed. Sure pulling big moves like this would exhaust him fast, the quick movements and full body motions were usually a fight ending event as well. Still it worked and he had more tricks in paw until he was too tired to dodge and Marigoldpaw flattened him. For now though he had energy. Yanking his paw away from his snapping jaws he was unable to dodge the dirt. Letting out an angry hiss yowl he rapidly moved backward paw trying to rub the dust out of his blinded eyes. Where in the world did his sister learn this??? He couldnt allow her to strike while he was blind.

Suddenly bursting into motion he blindly kicked out striking with all limbs randomly around him trying to fend off Marigoldpaw from getting close. He just had to deter the she cat with snapping jaws and hard paw swipes until he regained his vision.

Marigoldpaw let out a semi annoyed and semi affected huff before muttering, “Yeh well at least I did something unlike you,”. Personally Marigoldpaw believed her scars were quite cool, they showed she’d come out of fights alive. They showed she was tough, and Marigoldpaw believed that was quite cool.

The golden she-cat felt a smirk emerge on her face as Shrikepaw stumbled away trying to get the dust out of his eyes. Yes! Woohoo! After a moment Marigoldpaw internally reminded herself to thank Adderfang for teaching her that(kind of ) later. Suddenly her smirk fell off her face as she felt one of Shrikepaw’s dark furred limbs kick her muzzle. Then another hit under her eye. Soon his paws were everywhere and he was a whirl storm of motion. A very annoying whirl storm.

Determined to win the fight and get back at her brother for his kicks and flailing hits she flattened herself against the ground(in an attempt to avoid his limbs) before darting forward. Her head lowered she aimed for his stomach and ran straight towards him. Hopefully this would lock him over then...well....Marigoldpaw wasn’t super sure if what she’d do then,...probably improvise.

The small flailing tom huffed happily as he felt himself hit his sister and nearly cheered as he finally managed to clear his stinging eyes. Only to be immediately tossed as Marigoldpaw sent him tumbling, he was able to right himself sure but the impact on the ground wasn't pleasant and he was now off balance. Ugh whatever he had tactics and lessons from Stormgorse if an enemy was stronger than you let them expend energy coming to you and wait for their mistake. So dropping into a ready crouch the runt moved to taunt his sister hoping to prod her to make a mistake. "Wow Mari whats your mentor even teaching you? How to randomly flail your paw and pray? I thought you'd be able to skin me by now given how much better then me you were as a kit but I think youre worse now then you were then! Maybe you should join the foxes they might actually teach you how to fight well..." Wow Shrikepaw didnt know words to others could hurt him but he really didnt want to say that to his sister.
