Jan didn't care for the sizzling feeling of what might start to be a burn when he took hold of Jaran's arm - he didn't have time to care. All that was on his mind was getting all of them out of there, and not loosing sight of he who had saved him earlier. Surely there must be a way to avoid him turning, and to turning his brother back. A strange mixture of worry and fear started to bubble up inside him as everything became all the more real; the sights, the scents, everything, and he hated. Huffing in irritation, Jan slowed to take Hester's hand so she didn't fall behind, picking up speed after. They had to hurry. Unlike the games he used to play, these zombies seemed to be quite a bit faster.
Luckily rather sooner than later, Jan finally spotted it - the store! "Common!" He called to the others, gesturing with his hand towards it and making sure they were all still around. Once again he picked up his speed, but this time only to slam himself against the closed door to open it. It didn't right away, so again, and repeat, and again, and repeat until finally it opened! That was going to bruise for sure, but at least they could gather supplies "inside," he said hurriedly without much thought. Out of instinct he held the door open, only joining the others once everyone else was inside the store an hopefully, for the time being, safe. Once that was the case he pushed a table against the door in order to block it, then proceeded to pick up Hester in a big hug with a sigh of relief "is everyone alright?" He asked, watching them both.
It was all so scary, all the greens after them, but Hester ran as fast as she could. It was exhausting, though. And the othes were much faster than her but for now she was handling it - the young girl stopped in her tracks and turned around when Jenna suddenly fell, but before she could help her, the other girl was already back on her feet and soon enough she was being pulled along by her cousin. Hester's breaths grew heavier as she tried to keep up with their pace, stumbling several times over her feet but luckily never falling to the ground. When she finally took a moment to look around, she recognised the neighbourhood, now realising where Jan was heading.
He'd let go of her hand the moment he started to slanm against the door, Hester remaining close to him still, panting, offering a scared glance towards the other two. She scrambled inside when being beckoned too, relief filling her when Jan finally picked her up again. He was alright. Jan was... The only place, person, that felt remotely secure. She held on tightly, squishing her eyes shut to keep herself from spilling any tears.
