ThunderClan: Life Before 2023's Sinkhole

She noticed the tom gazing the den, thinking her problems were over. So, she put her head down and went to go back to sleep, it was the only logical answer to her, But the kit came back. She jerked her head up as he began talking, this kit had a temper she didn't like, and before she could speak, he pushed her.

"Hey! Don't push me just because you want a spot you deem as better!" She yelled at him, finally having enough of his ego. "And just because you know more than me, that doesn't make you more important or special! That's how you seem to be feeling!" She batted his ear out of anger, she knew kits COULD do damage to each other, witnessing a scene that went wrong rather quickly. But she put that memory out of her mind at this moment, doing an action before thinking of the consequences. "I am definitely not moving just because you want me too!"

Luna moaned. Why was she here? It smelled funny, and she felt awful.

Dog was... plump! Round. She felt like a twoleg football, all squishy and threatening to pop like some overblown balloon. The climb up to Thunderclan camp - the site she had found all those moons ago and knew the route too - felt like a mountain to climb.

"Duskstar!" Dog practically barked out, panting as she pushed through the entrance of camp. Her nose twitched as she sniffed around camp, apart of her soul desperately hoping to pick up on the familiar scent of Buzztuft or Houndspirit but she couldn't even smell any trace of Duskstar. Panic flickered across the scarred mollys one eyed face.

Okay, woah there, that was not a name Buckstar had expected to hear anytime soon. He poked his head out of his den, brow furrowed, and then his eyes widened as he recognized Dogpaw. In less than a heartbeat he had crossed the clearing of the camp to stand in front of her.

"How long has it been?" he practically yelped. "I thought you'd died or something - where did you even go?" He paused as guilt flickered across his face. The tip of his tail swayed from side to side. "Er- Duskstar... Duskfeather isn't here. She- she left. Left ThunderClan and left me in charge."

Longkit gave the tom a strange look, letting his fur rest on his back but still keeping his claws extended for the time being. The way the kit spoke confused him, but he wouldn't mention it for now. And scare him? he nearly gave him a heart attack! The poor kit already looked terrified in the first place though, and that was not something he enjoyed. As much as he hated dealing with other kits, he would not make one scared.

"No... you stepped on my tail, that hurts y'know," he grumbled, just loud enough for him to hear as he gave his aching limb a small clean quickly before examining the other tom, "Play? Play what?"

"Oh, chase, sounds fun I suppose," he nodded, sheathing his claws as he let his eyes soften. She seemed to have calmed down just a bit now, but that obnoxious stutter remained. At the question of his name, he had to pause, confused as to how they did not know it. Then again, he couldn't remember their's in that moment either, "I'm Longkit, and you?"

He gave a small smile, jumping back onto his paws and taking off without another word. While he wasn't the fastest kit, he did have quick reflexes, mostly from dodging oncoming smacks from warriors as he rambled on about different topics. Looking behind him, he was glad to see he had put some distance between the two and slowed his pace to a trot to let him catch up.

Rainywhisker listens patiently as Buckstar speaks, observing the other tom. It was clear to see that he wasn't pleased about... Any of this. Perhaps Rainywhisker had used his current position to overstep his place a little bit, and perhaps his daring involvement pushed the leader's boundaries. In the past, without even holding any sort of special rank in the Clan, Rainywhisker had been effective at keeping their Clan afloat. But had pride gotten the better of him?

Dipping his head, he silently thanks Buckstar for his understanding, even if it was not necessarily a pleasurable decision. Truthfully, if the leader had requested it... Would Rainywhisker remain ThunderClan's medicine cat? He'd become such at Buckstar's request, after all. But... No, likely not.

"I will bid you my leave, now. I think I'll go on a walk now..."

The stormy gray tabby becomes quiet, hesitant to go on. He didn't want to annoy or push Buckstar about, and he didn't want to sound like a broken record either. "I apologize for my shortcomings to you as your medicine cat," the tom meows. "But my devotion to doing what can be done for you has not dwindled."
With that, he wastes no more time in leaving the tom alone to his thoughts.

Somewhere on the edge of Thunderclan territory, a tomcat prowled. His fur was bushed out in excitement, and tremors went down his tail, as if from an earthquake.

How long had it been since he was last here?

At least four seasons, he realized, thinking back.

Winter had been harsh alone. He'd only barely survived, using the knowledge from his life as a Thunderclan warrior to keep from starving. Nevertheless, his tired paws had kept on padding in the hopes of returning home.

But now, it's time to put the life of a loner behind me.

Once again, a tremor akin to lightning ran down his body. It traveled from his paws through the tip of his tail, almost as though the territory was greeting him.

Glad to see you, too, old friend.

Speaking of old friends, a very familiar smell reached his nose. It smelled of rosemary, summer dreams, and all things good. It also smelled of mourning, sadness, happiness and nervousness.

It could only be one cat.

"Buckbranch?"

Foxkit stretched and got out of her nest. What shall I do today? she thought. She yawned as she took a lap around the nursery. She sighed, why couldn't she go to the forest? She wanted something to do. Perhaps study the flora and fauna. She huffed and sat down.
