Foxblaze has tear welling up in her eyes. They just let this happen?! Who is to blame for her baby not having the same dreams as the others?! Was it her doing? “Oh baby... I love you no matter what and.. we’ll if you don’t think Starclan is real, then maybe it isn’t real.” She mewed with a nod. Well she knew they were there, she could feel it. She just didn’t think they were as amazing as others thought.

Oh no he'd screwed up. "No Mom dont cry." Snakepaw murmured moving closer to shove his head under the she cats chin rubbing against his mother to try and comfort the she cat. "I could be wrong! I mean Im the youngest there by far! Maybe Im making a mistake there and so didn't see them! If the belief makes you happy then believe and pay no attention to my stuff. I'd rather you be happy then have someone to rant to Mom." To most everyone else Snakepaw was a semi selfish brat with too much snark but he genuinely loved his mother and the fact that he upset her was not good. He needed to cheer her up again. What to do, what to do- oh! "Hey Mom!" The lanky tom grinned mischievously "Ive been keeping better care of my pelt buuuuut you look dusty now! Did you run straight here from your adventures away? I think you need to be groomed!" With a playful lunge Snakepaw did his best to drag his tongue through Foxblazes pelt more jokingly then a serious grooming.

Foxblaze laughed at Snakepaw. “I can see that.” she mewed smiling at her son. When did she get so lucky with this one. “I’m not sad because you don’t believe hun, I’m sad because that had to happen to you. How rude of celestial ansestors to leave you out.” She mewed before leaning down to talk to Snakepaw in more of a whisper. “Wanna know what I believe? I believe that Starclan are jerks.” She whispered before giggling a bit. Life was so good. Her boy was so strong. It then occurred to her she hadn’t seen any of her other kits. “Little snake, have you seen any of your siblings?” she asked looking around.

Foxblazes words earned her a snort of a laugh and a whined "Moooooom!" though the stifled snickers as he found joy in the whole idea, his mom verses starclan (given that they existed). Snakepaw knew who he would place prey on winning, his mom was a spitfire as bright as her pelt and while some cats (damn the golden boy once more) could dampen the fire the young tom doubted starclan held the same ability. Well if his mom was right then rest in pieces dead cats because it wasnt gonna be in peace.

The next question got a cocked head "The others? Well Baypaw is cool as always, they took appart in a mock raid in camp and didnt get hurt which was good, I think their apprenticeship is progressing normally but Im busy in a different area of the camp now so you'll have to ask them." Baypaw was the one sibling who's gender was even more complex this his own, just another little thing that cemented them as Snakepaws favourite sibling. "And Twigpaw? Well Twigpaw is Twigpaw, nuff said I think they have a new mentor?" Snakepaw shrugged, the stepsibling was the one Snakepaw understood the least, he didnt dislike the older tom but he wasnt as nosy to him as he was to Baypaw.

The other kits.... Well they didnt go forgotten either even if Snakepaw didnt remark on them. The long heavy silence that hung in the air and with it the implications of the quiet. Snakepaw had not seen his other littermates for a long time and now knew what horrible things that could mean. It could be something far more harmless but.... Well the young tom didnt wanna reflect on it.

Foxblaze nodded solomly. Her kits were missing, “well we’ll have to see them. They don’t seek me out as much as you do.” She mewed with a smile before going to give Snakepaws head a lick. It was so hard not to play favorites.

"Well Im a Mamas boy and recognise that youre pretty much the only cool cat in riverclan, the others need more time to figure that out I guess." Snakepaw shrugged basking in the attention. "Well I for one am really glad youre back and am sure they will be too once they know. Why dont you go find them while I put these away," He gestured to the nearly abandoned dried herbs he was minding in the beginning "and then maybe we can go out and do something? I havent been out of camp since Dogflame died-" The tom cut himself off too late, damn his ease at talking to Foxblaze. He was aware the two were friends doubted she knew he was dead much less her own sons part in it (his fault, his FAULT) and so in a fit of cowardice didnt want to be the one to tell her. But now the cat was out fo the bag in a way, oh dear.

Foxblaze froze, her Dogflame, was dead. How? Why? “What happened.” She whispered. What could have killed her best friend. Who. Dogflame was always so fun to be around. Why had he gone.

"We- it was supposed to be a normal hunting patrol... I wanted to go out because I hated being stuck in the medicine cats den so much and so Dogflame and Lionstar took me out on a hunting patrol on the border. It was fine but then... well then we got blindsided by the fox. It got Dogflame around the neck and Lionstar? storm tried to get it off, I did too for how little it helped I dont know how to fight at all and after I did my best to stanch the bleeding but... I- I couldnt do anything... He bled out right there. We carried him back and buried him after, not like there was anything else we could do." At this point Dogflame was just yet another weighty guilt on the small toms back, one of far too many.

Foxblaze teared up at the the thought and at the fact she’d lost her best friend but understood that it was his time. “My love,” she mewed to get Snakepaw’s attention, “it’s not your fault. Snake it’s really not. You did what you could with what little you’ve been given and I can’t thank you enough for that.” She whispered while attempting to hug him. How far he’s come.

Snakepaw let out a few grumbles as his mother ushered him closer, still not believing he deserved the affection after he failed despite her words but let her do so, purring to try and comfort her in her grief. It was a cruel fact of life that cats in the clans tended to die young and fast, seldom reaching elder age and gaining the ability to join the often empty den in the camp, but it still rankled. The clans toted themselves as better then kittypets, and they were, but why then did they live so much shorter? It wasnt fair, it just wasnt. The young tom was aware Foxblaze wasnt even that old of a warrior yet she'd seen so much loss and was bound to see more, Snakepaw really didnt want that type of life for her and told her so,
"If I have any ability to save even one cat important to you I will do everything I can to do that I promise. I might not really wanna be stuck in a smelly plant den for the rest of my life but if I can really help the clan.... I guess then I'll do that." He burred his face in his mothers shoulder paws wrapping around her (well half of her admittedly, he was still smaller then the warrior) and squeezing. It hurt when Foxblaze cried, the molly was generally so happy it looked almost wrong and out of place on her muzzle, so Snakepaw would do anything to keep the expression off.
