Ice racing, the sequal [Rc apprentices and warriors]

Raccoonear’s face was wiped of it’s joyful expression as she made swirlies and marks in the ice, when she noticed a thicket of reeds. What. How am i gonna get through this one? Thought the molly, beginning to panic.

She quickly thought of a solution. It wouldn’t be pretty…it would be funny! Hilarious, even! I can speed up and then flop down on my belly! She sheathed her claws, allowing herself to increase speed and turn quickly. She leaned to the left, and not even a second later, spread out her limbs on the ice, becoming a sort of starfish on the ice, gliding across.

It looked funny. Really funny. Hysterical. She waited for her drifting across the ice to come to a slow before she stood again, digging her claws in slightly for speed control. And…she’s off again! “Wowzers, I hope everyone got a laugh out of that one!” She laughed, proceeding through the race.

She was happier already, so happy. It was just such a wholesome scene, and she was so glad to be apart of it.

Well that didn’t work to say the least. Looncry’s
nose felt like fire on his face, he slammed
into the ground and wasn’t able to turn
to avoid crashing completely. But that was
nothing compared to the consequences if
Snakeheart had seen his stunt. Luckily
there were so many cats everywhere it was an unlikely outcome.

Hazelstorm easily pushed ahead of him.
He scrambled to his paws and started
running to try and catch up with her.
However, before he could even try and
pass her, a huge thicket of reeds towered ahead of him.

If this was Snakeheart’s way of revenge
from Looncry not helping on herb patrols,
this was terrible! He knew it was just a
competition but he could kind of feel
Snakeheart’s gaze boring into the back of his skull.

A couple of cats were already trying to get
through the huge thicket. He noticed Shypaw
was trying to go through what seemed as the
most open paths. And Lavenderpaw using her
fur to take the blunt of the thicket’s scratches.

Maybe if he crawled he could avoid the denser
areas? He crouched down and flinched as the
cold from the ice got to him. But he started to
crawl through hoping this would work.

Shimmerbird let a grin cross her face as sliding on her belly proved to be a good strategy when she maintained pace with the leaders. That didn't last for long however when she spotted the huge thicket of reeds in front of her which were blocking the path. She could see a couple less dense areas, but with her body structure muscling her way through certainly wasn't an option. Actually, her small stature might be an advantage to help avoid crashing while she used the reeds to propel herself forwards! If it didn't then she would be in for a struggle, but the molly couldn't think of anything else and the reeds were approaching fast. When she reached them she tried to put her strategy in motion, reaching out with a paw to hook her claws in a long stem of one of the reeds and trying to use it to propel herself forward and through the rest quicker. She would repeat this strategy and hope it would lead her to a victory against this obstacle.

She couldn't suppress a smirk as she easily glided across the black ice on her near-frozen rear end. She passed Looncry, who seemed to have fallen flat on his face. Hah! That's what he got for using her back as a stepping stool.Snickering, she powered forwards, finally getting out of the black ice. Hazelstorm decided to remain on her butt. The next obstacle,it seemed, was a clump of reeds frozen to the ice. At least, this was better than the black ice. Digging her claws into the ice to maintain a grip Hazelstorm pulledherself to a halt as she puzzled out how to get pst these reeds. Tentatively, she reached out with a paw, trying to brush the reeds aside.

It half-worked. The reeds were stiff and icy, but some relented and difted to the side. It remained bent, not straightening up. Hazelstorm's face lit up. She could possibly use this as an advantage. Pulling herself forwards with her claws and paws, she attempted to push through the icy reeds, one paw raised to brush aside the reeds as she slid along.

Dustymoth
When Snakeheart had called to go, Dustymoth of course had not been paying attention. The fluffy gray tom was distracted by a flurry of flakes that fell just off to the side. Touching down onto the cattails that surrounded the pond, dusting them with a light coat of snow. Beautiful and magnificent and a sight that, frankly, the tomcat could stare at all day. Leaf-bare may not be the warmest, or the friendliest to cats recovering from injuries - thankfully Dustymoth did not fall into that category so that he could adequately enjoy the magical season.

Yowls of cats slipping on ice registered in his brain as 'oh! the race!'. "Sorry!" Dustymoth called as he scrambled to get back into it, paws skidding out from under him as he made a mad dash for it. The black ice was tricky but somehow he managed, sending a silent prayer to StarClan above for not tripping up during the first event. Yeah, he was still losing and behind every other cat, but he wouldn't count himself down and out yet!

Next up appeared to be a patch of reeds blocking the way. Grinning as he began to pick up speed Dustymoth gave the noble 'just crash through it' attempt as he jerked his shoulder in front of him. Hopefully he was going at the blockade with enough speed to either shove them out of the way or flatten them completely.

Wolfsong lashed her tail, a smirk growing on her face. My first Ice Race! Time to show them why I was named after wolves, the ice and snow is my favorite! She chuckled and watched as her sister, Moonfrost, skidded lightly on the ice, her tail puffing. "Come on Moonfrost, claws, use your claws!" She bounced, her pelt prickling. She dug her claws into the ice, trying to get a grip as she worked to catch up to the cats who had gotten there before the sisters.

Oh Starclan why did I let her talk me into this... Moonfrost sneezed as the cold air hit her nose, narrowing her eyes at her sister's jeering. She extended her claws, doing her best to get a grip. She fluffed out her fur against the cold, watching her sister's silver tail lash in front of her. Alright, Wolfsong, you want to race? Let's race! She pushed harder in her stride, trying to gain speed.

[Both sisters are open for talking while racing! Well, Moonfrost will listen anyway xD. This is my starter post in the race.]

As Raccoonear cleared the obstacle by gliding out of its way on her belly, spread out like a starfish, she giggled as she passed the blockage. Woah, was Dustymoth just gonna go head-on through them? He’ll probably make it, they seemed to be easily pushed through seeing how frozen they are,

Wait. I’m directly in the path of a fast moving Dustymoth crashing through a patch of reed. Her brain took a second to process, but Dustymoth was already headed through the obstacle. Her face filled with fear as her claws skidded against the ice in an attempt to push herself out of the way.

Oops. Didn’t work. Her claws couldn’t get any purchase on the snow. I’m doomed. She continued to claw at the ground, and still failed. Well, this was bad. Hopefully the impact with the reed would slow him down a bit? It was sure neither of them would be harmed, but it would sure as Starclan be aching tomorrow. She watched the other side of the reed wall, sparing the few seconds she had before whatever was about to happen.

~Bristletail - 2~
Bristletail slipped to the side as she tried to get a grip across the bottom, and, before she could get too far in, retreated into the safety of snow on the side. Hmm. It was time for her to give the sides a try. One step at a time, making sure to stay inside the boundaries. After a few seconds of not slipping, she picked up the pace, running faster. She cast a grin at Snakeheart, noting his laughter. As Bristletail took in the next challenge, her glee faded a bit. The reeds were going to be more than a bit of trouble, but she thought that about the weird ice, and that had gone fine. Taking a step forward, she decided to barge right through. Before going in, she cast a glance at the others. Noticing they were adapting similar behaviors, she barged ahead. She just hoped that it would work for her. Wait. She gasped and took a step back. Couldn't the sides work again. She made her way to the side, ready to survey if the plants thinned out.

Frozen reeds?! Agh, what in Starclan's name was she supposed to do here, just brute force her way through them?! Wait, she was a large cat, both in muscle and weight, maybe that was possible. Well, quick thinking means possibly dumb, risky decisions, she already had a cold area on her stomach anyway so why not try this!

Ripplefrost: 2pt

After sliding across the ice like a two-legged sled, Ripplefrost righted herself as soon as he claws touched standard ice. It was fun, the sliding, but cold. Her belly fur was stuck to her body wetly and uncomfortably. It didn't dampen her excitement, though, not in the slightest, if anything it made her want to do especially well to justify the extensive cleaning she would no doubt give herself later.

The next obstacle was fast approaching, and she was ready for anything. Her eyes alighted on a patch of reeds frozen into the ice. That had to be it! Tilting her head quizzically Ripplefrost began to assess her options. Though potentially poky and probably incredibly thick through and through, Ripplefrost had learned from experience that frozen plants could be remarkably brittle, and though not the largest cat in the clan, her best course of action was through. She could go around and save herself the trouble, but she hoped pushing through would save her time.

Let's just hope she thought to herself, that I don't get stuck.
