Default Ice racing, the sequal [Rc apprentices and warriors]

Event [#event]

It was that time of year once more. It was time... For a race! This'd be almost the second year of this event and boy was it a weird thought to know a year had passed since Lionstorm and him had been searching for the next leader but such was life. Kestrelstar (wing at the time) had won and his persistence had certainly caught the former (and current) high ranks attention though it wasnt like this alone had made the leader choice... Ah stupid thoughts birdbrain wouldnt be taking part of this too busy morning Stormtalon (dont think about it, dont think about it) which was good so the former winner couldnt be a threat to the other racers, things would be fair.

Deep breath in and...... "Alright everyone lets do this again! It time for an ice race! For the second year in a row we are hosting a race around the frozen cattail pond which is chock full of obstacles for you all to avoid! Kestrelstar was the winner last year so let see if any of you have what it takes to be among the greats and win this time! I'd warn against foul play (hehehe you'll see why Im laughing later) as I will disqualify bad sports. Winners will once again get something I havent thought that far ahead but if youre interested feel free to take a step onto the ice and get used to the slippy feeling while I laugh from the shore before I call you to take your places on the starting line. (theres gotta be a better way to do this then by claw my feet ache) We'll begin in a bit!"

Heheheheh 'foul fowl' last year when he ran this event he'd baited over the odd giant goose that he now viewed as something of a pet and it'd plucked most of the contenders... This year the goose required no baiting at all and happily followed Snakeheart to the frozen pond and was now sitting comfortably hidden in a patch of reeds.... dead in the racers path. Hehehehehehehe this was gonna be fun.

How this works:
-Once the race starts each ‘round’ I am going to post a prompt about the obstacle you’ll be encountering on the track (ie: A large log has been placed dead in your way!)
-Your next post should include your cats actions and how they try and avoid the obstacle!
-Dont describe them succeeding or failing though because progression is determined through dice rolls!
-I will roll for you on my next post and a 1-10 is a fail with your cat getting around but being slowed and a 11-20 is a pass but your plan working and your cat keeping going strong!
-To encourage more then 1 line responses posts over 100 words will get advantage (We will roll twice and take the higher number rather than once, increasing chances of success)
-We will be rolling bare minimum every 8 hours often more.
-On a success you get +2 points on a fail you get +1 points if you dont post at all for that round you get nothing.
Person with the most points at the end wins!
1st place - 20,000 kk
2nd place - 10,000 kk
3rd place - 5,000 kk

(Disclaimer: you can try and have your cats slow others but no powerplaying and you better hope snake don't see or you will be disqualified! Multiple cats per person allowed~)

~Shypaw~
Shypaw listened to Snakeheart words. She was pretty sure she hadn't been born yet when this took place last leaf-bare but it seemed like fun. She carefully padded over to the frozen pond and poked at it lightly before placing a paw on the ice. It was cool under her paw, a little freezing but nothing she couldn't handle. She dared to place her other front paw on the ice and she landed on her chin as her front paws splayed out under her. Embarrassed, she lifted herself up and went slower this time, not daring to place her hind paws on the ice until she was comfortable with her front paws. She placed her hind paws on the ice and went slipping but managed to gain her balance. She found that she could use the slipping to her advantage if she did it right. She had heard Snakeheart say something about claws. Oh well, whether or not she was supposed to do it or not, she extended her claws a little so that she had balance and she had finally figured it out. Wherever she passed she left a little bit of grinded ice in multiple lines.

~Lavenderpaw~
OMG!!!! She was an apprentice at last! She wasn't confined to camp like many kits were and she could roam the territory whenever she pleased! Oh, what was that? An ice race? And with Snakie hosting it? Count Lavenderpaw in! She squealed as she saw the frozen pond, barely registering the words that Snakie said. The only thing visible of Lavenderpaw was a blur as she raced towards the frozen ice. To no one's surprise, she landed with her legs splayed out under her, her stomach touching the ice and her long fur all over the place. She slipped and slided as she struggled to get on her paws. She stood on all fours and she saw Shypaw. How was she leaving those lines. She quickly asked her. Oh! Her claws! Lavenderpaw extended her claws just a bit and she quickly got the hang of it. Ok, that was out of the way. Now, for the first thing that came to her mind when she saw the ice. She sat down on the ice and use her front paws to slide her butt across the ice. Her butt would probably end up frozen by the time she was done but she didn't care. She was having fun!

-Hazelstorm-

An ice race? Sounded fun. Hazelstorm trotted over, and looked down at the frozen Cattail Pond. How was she going to pull herself along the ice? Perhaps she could use her claws... or paws. Hazelstorm stood there, waiting for therace to start, all the while pondering how to slide along the ice without foolishly injuring herself.

So Kestrelstar had been the winner last year? Hazelstorm hoped that he wasn't attending. She didn't want her chances to be ruined, as Kes probably had experience in ice-sliding. Reaching out with a paw, she touched the ice surface of the frozen pond, and almost immediately pulled her paw back. It was so cold - no, cold couldn't describe that icy feeling now on her paw. It was more than cold. It was smooth, and slippery. Most importantly, it was extremely cold to the touch-

Touch.

She could use her claws to cut small wedges, not too deep that it broke through to the water below. Using these edges to pull her along. If that didn't work, Hazelstorm could use the obstacles to her advantage, using tem to pull herself along on the slippery, cold ice. Hazelstorm had to admit to herself, it was a fairly brilliant plan. She knew that it would be almost certain that her rear end would be in pain after this, but honestly Hazelstorm wanted to try this. It was a new experience for her, as she'd been a kit when the first ice race occured and she hadn't been able to attend.

Shimmerbird perked her ears at the call and headed over to where Snakeheart was. Ice racing? She had never tried it before but it certainly seemed like fun. The young warrior stepped forward and cautiously padded out on the ice to get a feel for it. Embarrassingly she almost immediately face planted, barely managing to right herself, before slowly sliding around it, getting better and better as she practiced more.

"T-this is surprisingly fun. Count me in," Shimmerbird said softly as she stopped sliding around to listen for any further instructions.

~ Silvernight

One silvery ear pricked up as a familiar voice reached it. Snakeheart? What did he want? Oh, a game, a race at that. She was down! Sure, maaaaybe games were more for kits, but she couldn't help herself. Camp had been stressfully tense after the news of the coyote's attack on Kestrelstar, and she wasn't sure if she wanted to go out of camp alone like that because of the same reason. She wasn't a great fighter. Buuut, but but, she was lean and with long limbs and tail, so maybe her speed and balance would help her win this, maybe.

With a bright smile, the silvery cat hoped up and bounced over to Snakeheart. She vaguely spotted what she thought was a glint of... something in the medicine cat's eye, like the rest he must be looking forward to the race, even if he himself maybe wouldn't be taking part, seeing as the race needed someone to declare the winner.

~ Goldenpaw

She wasn't one for games, never. There were millions of things that took priority in her mind, but at the same time, there was an annoying little itch in the back of her mind. She was almost always calm and collected and all that... but sometimes even she needed to take part in some competition... and win. She had been just restlessly padding around, since apprentices weren't allowed outside of camp on their own - something that greatly bothered her - but now the golden apprentice padded over and took her place, standing still and focused on their dear medicine cat.

She could spot other cats gather as well, Lavernderpaw, Shypaw, Hazelstorm, Shimmerbird, Silvernight, not anyone she deemed as unbeatable in a race, but the number of warriors did worry her slightly, they were older, taller, stronger, and therefore would be harder to beat. Goldenpaw was quick and her claws were sharp - something that might come in handy out on the slippery ice - but she, while being among the older apprentices, was still rather young in comparison to the warriors. It would no doubt be a match, but all the more interesting, and what was a fight if it was too easy, right?
And the fact that Kestrelstar had won last time did made her curious about the whole thing....

What. Is. This. Bristletail's head tilted at the sound of an ice-race. Whatever that was. It sounded fascinating, something she usually didn't think of. Bristletail leaned forward to look at the glistening surface before her. She had seen ice before, obviously, but she didn't remember an ice-race. Knowing her, she had been too busy worrying about other things to even think about joining. Listening to Snakeheart's rules, she smiled. "I'm up for it!" Despite being rather large, Bristletail was good at going fast. With the amount of swimming and hunting she did to keep herself occupied, this should be a breeze for her to go across.

Well, not a breeze. The easy part would most likely be not falling through the ice, but moving forward would be pretty difficult. The only cats with any real advantage would be the ones who had done this before, and, come to think of it, her earlier idea of a potential advantage was nearly non-existent. Swimming and walking on ice were completely different. What was I thinking? She took a step forward onto the ice, and dug her claws in reflexively. Don't fall. Another step, another clawful of ice. The hardest part was getting her claws to let go. Every few seconds, they seemed to catch on a piece of harder ice. So going fast was out. Focusing on not falling was a better strategy.

Clawing her way over to Hazelstorm, head looking down at the ground, she stopped and smiled before looking up at Snakeheart, ready to begin. Her gaze travelled back to Hazelstorm. She seemed focused on something, her plan most likely. Following her gaze, she took notice of the obstacles and started putting things together in her mind. If she went too slowly, she could just push off from them, hoping that she got to the next in time. But with her fur-length and size, it most likely wouldn't work. So she was back to square one.

Dustymoth
A game? A racing game?? Oh, that sounded like fun! Promptly abandoning his shell studying in favor of the slippery icy pond Dustymoth scampered over to where Snakeheart was gathering RiverClan warriors up. Blue eyes glittered with excitement as the large fluffy tom took a seat, tail thumping against the frosty ground. "This sounds like fun! What a cool game, Snakeheart!" he called cheerfully from the back of the gathered cats. A few faces around him were familiar - Shimmerbird was a new warrior and Hazelstorm was a friend he recalled from an earlier interaction. This would certainly be an exciting race.

Head on a swivel, Dustymoth took a moment to observe his surroundings. The pond seemed frozen enough, though he raised a brow as some spots that appeared thin. "Are you positive this will hold us all up?" he inquired, though his blue gaze remained fixated on finding any possible cracks he could. Realization that his question might steer others away from the game, Dustymoth shook his head profusely, looking apologetically towards Snakeheart. "I-I didn't mean it like that! I'm sure it will. You've ran this race before it seems." Awkward tension clung to the air around Dustymoth while a wide grin stretched across his face. Paws continued to shuffle nervously under him as heat thawed his ears and whiskers.

Another event to win, her ego was high, and taking Kestelstar's crown would be. . .well it might kill Whitepaw but gosh dang it if she died that way it would be one of the best deaths.

then again, she has unfinished businesses involving that damn goose and Rumblingstorm, can't die too early.

A good few cats had gathered already and more could join in later. Never too late to join the whole thing was more about the effort you put in then being there right at the start. The tom let out a little giggle at the cats already slipping and sliding around there before addressing the questions he got. "It'll hold Dustymoth and even if there's cracks the pond is fairly shallow and safe. I'd worry more about staying upright heh." Cats were already being absolutely hilarious in their scrabbling it'd only be moreso as the event started. Speaking off that...

"Alright everyone line up! Lets get this moving! Ready. Set. GO GO GO GO! And if youre not already racing double-time it before you fall behind!"

-Event start!-
First prompt:The starting area is all black ice! Its impossible to get your grip, much less get going!

The ice looked weird [to her], so, Whitepaw thought for a bit, and decided to not go to fast, but to slow, trying to find a perfect balance. . .and already she was having difficulties, SNOW was her specialty, not ice!
