Think of what your mama would say if you brought that big ol' meanie back to her! She reasoned, glancing over at Snailriver for a moment, icy eyes soft and contemplative for a moment as she remained still in the water. His back was turned to her as he returned to shore, so she continued to ponder rather openly. What would her mama think of him? Starclan help me she'd probably like that meanie! But she liked Rainpaw, and look how that turned out! Perhaps mama's advice isn't as awe-inspiring as she makes it out to be, and certainly not as trustworthy. If only her mother could hear her thoughts, she'd get a harsh word if Splashdrift caught her being so cynical. She loved her mother, very very dearly. The she-cat shook her thoughts away, her mind returning to a semi-tranquil state as she focused on catching fish. She managed to grasp one within her jaw, her teeth gripping onto the fish as tightly as possible. She returned to shore, and proceeded to snort and drop the fish from her mouth. She let out the most god-awful laugh she'd ever laughed, snorting as freely as she had ever allowed herself to before. "You-" She paused, laughing some more before just about getting herself under enough control to proceed," You look ridiculous! You look like one of those really skinny twoleg dogs, you know the really really fast ones! You look like one of them haha!" She exclaimed, her laugh echoing all around them, tears collecting in the corners of her icy blue eyes. Luckily she'd got her claws sunk into the fish beneath her, preventing it from wriggling back into the water. Her main focus though was on Snailriver's completely soaked appearance, and his grey-hound like looks. He looked absolutely hilarious to her, and it was probably at that moment she laughed the most she had ever laughed in her life.
|
Snailriver could only stare at Mintflower as the white and ginger she-cat looked at him and then with a growl jumped on her, his weight and drenched fur carrying both cats past the bank and into the water. It felt good to be playing again, although he did have to show this she-cat that he wasn't a push over as she thought. The thoughts of food completely gone from his mind he only wanted to show that he didn't have to listen to whatever she said. Finally reaching the surface again he saw Mintflower's head bopping up and down and laughed at her, "Not so cocky anymore are we?" The white and ginger tom shuffled his paws, steadily keeping himself upright in the water. "Mintsnail, Mudsnail... is it Watersnail now? You seemed so shocked when I jumped at you, you would have taught you never played a kit. Watersnail does fit now doesn't it... You've fallen into the river more times than I can count today and you still move as slow as a snail." He swiftly swam back to the bank, this time making sure to shake his fur so that the sleek fur of the riverclanner dried more easily as the water slid down and onto the ground. Picking up the fish that the she-cat had caught he looked it over. It wasn't bad but it could still be used to have some fun with. As Watersnail heaved herself onto the bank he threw the fish directly into her face and the expression of shock and anger on her face had the white tom cackling his green and blue eyes sparkling with amusement. "It was a good catch. I felt like you would enjoy it."

Oakflame nodded with a purr, the deep sound rumbling from his chest. "It must be!" he nodded, a sudden yawn interrupting. He slowly rised from the ground, stretching his legs as he craned his neck slightly. "I think a nap would do me good." he chuckled, nodding at the other tom. "I'll see you later?"

Spiritflight smiled at the young tom, happy to meet with him before his nap. "I won't hold you up then!" He mewed, flicking his ears. He nodded to Oakflame. " See you around, and good luck with Spiderpaw! "

"I mean, there's uh, this spot here that looks fairly decent, and— oh, wait." Fawnpaw had done that one, so he quickly cleared his throat. "It's still better than having no help at all, mostly." Although he didn't pass judgment on him since his handiwork was lacking as well, he was somewhat glad that the tom who he thought to be so mysterious, so admirable and cool, was as prone to slipping up as the rest of them. It made him slightly more comfortable in Frostflight's presence.
Fawnpaw blinked in surprise, unaware that he'd been recently made a warrior and was much closer to his age than he'd realized. Note taken, but he had enough sense not to comment.
Not just his eyes, but his whole demeanor brightened at the thought of seeing the territory. "Wow, you've even gone exploring? And you guys are going to go swimming soon? That sounds incredible," he meowed but couldn't discern if that was simply because his experience was among the worst. As if trying to prove that he himself could be muscular even when his body was squishy from a lack of training, Fawnpaw fluffed up his fur and puffed his chest. It was a display that was stunning — not in its appearance, but in how rapidly it faded again. Pawing at the ground, he admitted, "I... haven't been swimming. I know that's weird for a RiverClan apprentice, but I guess it never worked out."
At the mention of his situation, he took in a deep inhale, closing his eyes momentarily. "No, it's fine— he, um, kind of tried… well, he ignored me most of the time, but then he," Fawnpaw drew another breath in, recollecting himself since he hadn't relayed this bit to anybody before, "tried to kill me?" It wasn't a question, but the lifted end of the sentence sounded like one as his meow wavered, remembering the recent incident in which Leopardshine had attempted to sacrifice him but ended up dead. However, he dismissed the subject with a shake of his head, swallowing hard. "Yeah, maybe not the best topic," he agreed, "so.." Oh. Oh no. This was bad. What was he supposed to say? What should they talk about? Fawnpaw struggled for a change in subject, fretting and feeling his pelt heat up under the nonexistent pressure. "The wall is looking good." The words blurted from him without any thought except ohgodsabovethinkofsomething, and he inwardly groaned — it was a terrible starter, and the wall really wasn't looking all that good since he'd forgotten to work on it, a reality he attempted to amend by rushedly (sloppily) weaving in reeds.

Frostflight had to bite back the rising guilt in his throat at the mention of Fawnpaw's (almost) murderer. Stupid, why would you ask something like that?! He mentally scolded himself, taking a brief moment to reflect on the situation. Well, it was relatable - sadly enough. Thankfully, Fawnpaw didn't seem to be too put off after telling Frostflight about his mentor. Wow... the volatile nature of others sometimes blew his mind, granted he had been just as hateful and bitter as some of them as an apprentice. Frostflight had to let out a breath of relief that Fawnpaw hadn't turned out like him after experiencing such horrible trauma. Letting his tail rest for only a moment longer against the other's back, the young warrior directed his icy gaze to the wall as he stifled a laugh. "I suppose your side looks good - It looks like I've just chucked a bunch of grass on the wall." And this time he couldn't help but let out an amused purr.
"And I can't believe you've never been out exploring in the territory! You haven't even been swimming in the river?!" The disbelief in his voice was almost palpable as he stared in surprise at Fawnpaw.

At first, he was unaware of the guilt coursing through Frostflight but moments of silence had him peering up in confusion, tilting his head. “Hey, it’s…” well, he’d been about to say ‘alright’ but being almost-murdered wasn’t quite alright. So he settled on, “I don’t mind that it came up, honest.” The earnest confession brought him to muster a reassuring smile that turned genuine as the conversation moved on to the wall, despite the unfortunate state it was in. Frostflight’s amused purr sparked one of his own before he realized it was happening, a little flurry of glee sparking within him. “That’s pretty much what it is anyway,” he pointed out, “and I don’t think too many warriors, uh, go around critiquing the wall in their spare time.. so it should be okay.” Fawnpaw wasn’t concerned but was grateful for his help, expressed through a tentative meow of, “Thanks, by the way.” It’d went better than it would’ve as a solo project, and it was with some sorrow that he acknowledged their task was finished, meaning their chat would soon follow.
“No, not.. exactly,” he said, pulled from his thoughts, “but I’d like to. Maybe you could take me sometime?” It was a second before paranoia over social situations drove him into hyper-analyzing that and coming to a rather terrifying implication, and he coughed, mildly embarrassed. “I mean, uh. Like… if you’re bringing your apprentice out, or something. Or not, it’s— up to you.” Trying to hurry this along in the wake of his faux pas, he added, “I really do appreciate you helping out with the wall, though. I’ll see you around, Frostflight…?” The last bit was lifted, a question more than statement.

"Of course! If I get the free time I'll take you for a swim!" He meowed with cheery anticipation, his eyes shining with warm fondness. Though the two had only just met, he felt quite close to the other. Perhaps from the way he saw a reflection of what he could have been... or maybe from the apprentice's squirrelly and adorably awkward personality. Though first impressions were always weird, weren't they? Flashing a gentle smile, Frostflight simply rose to his paws and ushered the loose bits n bobs of reed into a neat little pile - though a sadness rose from his throat as he quickly realized that they had finished the task. A quick sudden chuckle wracked his shoulders, " Don't worry, I'm sure Ravenpaw and I would enjoy the company!" Not to imply that Frostflight didn't want to spend more time with Fawnpaw and come to think of it having another apprentice for Ravenpaw to train and practice would be good experience, but the others embarrassment was painfully obvious from the awkward cough and Frostflight's innate need to comfort briefly possessed him. "Anytime you want to talk just flag me down! If you want, I can even take you out to explore or hunt." But Frostflight wouldn't wait for the other to reply as he dipped his head politely in farewell. "I'll see you around, Fawnpaw!" He called behind him as he disappeared in the swarm of Riverclan cats.

Mintflower was not exactly pleased to be tumbling back into the frigid depths, but alas, the deed was done and she had no choice but to bare the cold liquid's wrath. She remained below the depths for a few moments, annoyance beginning to bubble within her - she had been enjoying Snailriver's company, but if he dared to push her one more time she wouldn't be happy about it! He should know better than to manhandle a she-cat half his size. She let out a few coughs upon reaching the surface of the water, some genuine and others used for effect; Snailriver ought to know his actions were not acceptable in her eyes. They weren't kits, rolling around in the mud wasn't mature enough behaviour for warriors. "Stars, Snailriver, that jokes getting a little old now don't you think?" She snapped, not so pleased with another change of her name. What had made her mood turn sour so quickly? Perhaps it was the cold? Or perhaps she was simply socially drained at this point - either way, she wasn't happy to say the very least. The fish being thrown in her face made her annoyance turned quickly into full-on anger, and she let out a hiss. Mintflower never hissed. But it was raining, it was cold, and she was absolutely covered in mud and in her mind that was more than an appropriate enough moment to hiss. She puffed up and her body got tense, but only for a moment. Once her minor temper tantrum was over, she returned to a more relaxed posture - she was still visibly annoyed but less angry. "It's getting late, I have things I need to do. Warrior duties," She added the last bit on a little snidely, giving the large tom across from her a snarky glare. She huffed a final time, trudging passed him hastily as she began her return to camp - she'd have to seek help if she was to get all this mud off.

@Calliecat
Oakbranch stepped out of the warrior's den and into the clearing. The sun was high in the sky as she yawned and stretched in its light. She headed toward the fresh kill pile to take anything that might be left afterwards she would go hunting.
She traveled back near the warriors' den with a fish in her mouth and she plopped down to start eating.

"Ouch!" The feline mumbled under his breath as his outstretched his leg, a prominent 'CRACK' sounding from his joints. Frostflight was so sore... so incredibly sore! He never thought that having an apprentice could take all the energy out of him, but maybe that's why older warriors seemed so grumpy. Either way, Frostflight was just glad to be back in camp. He'd have a meal, give himself a little spruce up, and try to catch an early night. Pacing over to the fresh-kill pile, the silver feline would settle on a smaller trout and carry it back to his spot, the fish clamped tight between his jaws. Settling himself down, Frostflight placed the prey on the ground ready to tuck into his meal, but what was dinner without company? Raising his icy gaze to scan the camp, he decided on someone who may have been close by, Roachfoot. Frostflight didn't know him too well, but he knew of him... "Hey!" He called, "Would you like to come share this with me?"
|
(( Goodness don't worry I'm horrible with replies too! ))
Roachfoot was attempting to catch the last rays of sunlight that ripped through camp in ribbons of bright sunlight, the sun would set soon or it was on his way. He would not waste this opportunity. What was the harm of enjoying it while he could? He was in a better mood than usual, his resting face was somewhat relaxed. Less irritated than normal. Despite his normally grumpy mood not much seemed to bother in this moment, with the exception his his paws. Cracked and bleeding from patrolling, he sure wasn't ready for the warm weather quite yet. Was he really growing soft? As cats shifted around camp getting settled and grooming he could be found blinking an eye open to stare for a few seconds than blinking it back shut looking quite unbothered. Contrary to popular belief that roachfoot couldn't stand when cats paced, drove him absolutely mad. It wasn't until he heard someone call. Was that directed for me? He chewed the inside of his cheek before popping open an eye. Frostflight. His ears pinned to the back of his skull and he glanced up deciding wether or not to ignore him. He examined the small fish, than frostlight and back at the fish again. "Why not" the short tom despite the protest of his aching paws stood and shuffled awkwardly towards him. It was odd to get called over to share a meal, in fact he couldn't even remember the last time.
