A Clan-wide check up! (Open to all of riverclan)

An apple a day will keep a doctor away but it certainly won’t keep Snakepaw from his goals. The clan was vulnerable right now and could not afford to fall prey to some large sickness or lose members from an injury that went un noticed and frankly Snakepaw felt like queens should get examined at least once before their kits were born so they at least had an idea of how many kits they were having if not a forwarding of potential issues if they could be found. Plus the elders were old what if one had some sort of big issue they didn’t know about? Warriors were constantly getting hurt and injured and some were way too prideful for their own good and needed to be forced into being checked. And Snakepaw just bet there was at least one apprentice that’d run off a cliff thinking it was a good idea. Safe to say despite his snappish outer shell the tom was a bit concerned and decided to aim high and try and ensure the entire clan was completely healthy.
So he was going to do a check up! Good luck to everyone about that.

First Snakepaw needed to find helpers because this was going to be a big task and he was only ever one cat.
Who though, they couldn’t be young or annoying but couldn’t be grumps who might scare kits, that was Snakepaws job. Rowanmist and Petuniapaw seemed good, they were friendly and seemed helpful in a way that didn’t make them look like idiots like Dayheart did (Snakepaw still really didn’t like that cat) so he might as well ‘ask’ them to help. As always by ask he meant forcibly recruit.
“Hey Rowanmist @Starfall , Petuniapaw @Fuzzy ! I don’t see either of you doing anything important right now so you’re gonna help me instead. I need one of you to carry and protect these herbs and stuff,” he gestured to the neat bundles that were prepared for the check ups (thanks Whiteberry) “and the others gonna help me corral cats and guide those I think need more attention to my den. We’re doing a health check on anyone who needs/wants it and I don’t have enough paws. Just do what I say and you’ll be fine, let’s go.” They’d learn to follow him or be left behind. Probably.

He debated to go to the kits first or not but that was a rowdy group that would be annoying so in the end it was elders and queens first.

“Right old timers and those of you that made the frankly confusing decision to have kits (I mean power to you mothers are the keystone of a clan but I don’t see the attraction of those loud little fuzzball) its time for a check up! Wander over here if you want to be checked over to make sure you’re healthy or have any concerns about anything.”

He’d call over this kits after this group then the apprentices and warriors though he'd hardly turn away anyone who just wandered over to ask for help.

Firehawk's ears perked at Snakepaw's call and he slowly made his way out of the elders' den. If he were to be honest, he felt kind of useless.. being in the elders' den and doing nothing was never his cup of tea, but after he returned from his unexpected hiatus he'd been feeling off.

More fatigued, perhaps even weaker. It wasn't that noticeable at first but even making his way to Snakepaw left him feeling winded. He could hardly keep himself upright by the time he arrived near the medicine cat, lowering himself to a crouch as a way to try to recharge. "Hello Snakepaw," his greeting was quiet. "You wanted to do a check-up?" A good idea, honestly. Firehawk was vaguely aware of the missing ranks despite not attending the meeting-- it was hard to miss his son screaming it across camp, and he knew how rough sickness could be on a Clan. He remembered the CoughClan days all too clearly.

Firehawk pushed himself into a sitting position despite the discomfort and pain, doing his best to maintain his posture. He knew hunkering down would be useless for a check-up. "I'll be honest with you, son, I haven't been feeling so hot lately. I've.. been spent physically. My stomach hurts. There's times I feel like I can hardly get out of the nest." He was resigned, unsure what Snakepaw could even do. "Just sitting up is exhausting, and I don't think I ate any bad prey. That -- usually passes, this hasn't."

He was unaware of the mass in his lower abdomen, and even less aware of the internal bleeding that weakened him.

The large tom's head swiveled as he heard his name echo in the clearing. Ears quivered as he simply sat there for a few moments before picking himself up and making his way towards the cat that called for him. A gentle smile bloomed on his maw as he looked down at the Medicine Cat. "Will do." he hummed. As Snakepaw stated the two tasks, he looked over at the Apprentice who was called, and dipped his head, offering her a smile as well.

"I can guide the cats to the den. I'm a little bigger so it'll be easier to get their attention." he speculated. 'I can also pick other's up, but let's hope it doesn't get to that.' he thought to himself. Letting out an airy laugh the Tabby lobbed his head to the side "I'll do my best." he cheered softly.

Noticing Snakepaw’s call, Fishspeckle padded over,
“Hey,” He meowed, “Could I be of service for anything? I know a couple herbs from visits to the medicine den, or I could help corral the kits when and if you chose to do their check-ups?”

An elder a queen and one helper. That was good enough for a start. Snakepaw shot a nod at Rowanmists decision, not really caring what role everyone took as long as they did their part and helped out as he settled in to work.

Now the old timer that came up to him first seemed.... Well old to say the least. He had that sort of shake that those who had spent a lifetime moving smoothly and had just naturally hit the end of that had, not frailty just a sort of wornness to them that spoke of experience more than anything. His ears perked up as Firehawk spoke though, this kind of patient was exactly the kind he was worried about before he started putting this plan into motion. The patient that didnt think their issues were big enough of a worry to bother him but usually spoke of a deeper issue or wound that needed to be addressed, though that it was stomach pain was worrying. Exhaustion and weakness alone could be treated, the sorce was always more difficult.
"Alright then sounds like something I should check out. First though and sorry for the... indelicate question but have you been making dirt normally? Im going to be pokeing at your stomach to try and figure this out and I just need to know so I dont mistake that something more serious. If its not bad food... well I need to check something first." His words were firm but soft to try and not startle the older cat even if the whole thing was starting to concern him. A lot of stuff was in the belly and there were a lot of things it could be that Snakepaw just didnt know how to treat. Hopefully it was a decent one though.

"Tell me if you feel any pain or anything and describe it to me." The lanky tom instructed as he reached out a paw to delicately feel around freezing in a sort of shock when he felt the mass. That was a really bad sign.

"Ah morning Dune... Whatever your full name ended up being I see you've had your kits." The lack of telling pregnant queen waddle and giant belly was a good sign of that and she didnt look devastated for any reason so that must've not gone horribly.
"How are you and them doing? Any issues? If youre tired Ive got a herb that bolsters strength that might help you if needed. Otherwise if theres no worries Ill just do a quick check and let you get back to the furballs."

Then there was Fishspeckle, Snakepaw could respect the go getter attitude. Kinda. "Dont need much help now but if you want to stick around when the kits arrive feel free its your free time and stuff. Otherwise just dont be too loud will you I'll need to concentrate."

“You got it,” Fishspeckle sat off to the side a bit, careful to not get in the way of Snakepaw.

[sorry this is short and late, I meant to get to this yesterday]

Petuniapaw was slightly in disbelief that she had been called. She was being called by the only remaining high rank to help? That was exciting! She would head over, nodding with understanding to Rowanmist. She'd be working directly with the herbs than? Wow, she hadn't done much of that. But she wasn't going to complain. "Right! I can do that." She agreed moving over by Snakepaw, but far enough to stay out of the way. She did not want to get in the younger cats way, he seemed to be a bit snappish from what she gathered.
A few cats had already gathered around and the molly felt like she was late to the party. But late was better than never, right? "I'm ready to help however you need." Petuniapaw chimed, trying to stay respectful yet not to formal. All she wanted to do was help out however she was needed, while staying out of the way.

All the helpers (plus a potential plus one) we're gathered if not needed right now which was good. And Snakepaw gave Petuniapaw a small nod before turning back to his work.

Snakepaw gave a small hum of sympathy to Dunesplash before replying "Im glad the birth had no ill effects for you Im sorry for your loss. As for grief... Ive herbs for shock and if its dire Im sure I can figure something out however... Herbs for that is only a temporary suggestion and not one I'd generally recommend to kits. Theyre young and kits are remarkably resilient, half my litter disappeared during my kithood and with some encouragement and support I bounced back. It should help them more in the long run but if that doesnt work I am still here." Sometimes help was needed and that was fine but for such young cats Snakepaw was a tad wary of trying these methods without first trying a support system first. Herbs were ever a temporary fix and support for heading and he didnt want to foster a dependence.

Still Snakepaw was being surprisingly level and kind about the whole thing, maybe due to his personal experience or maybe because Dunesplash was a new mother who was actually trying, but he honestly did want to help and would happily suggest a way to accustom them to the reality if needed.
