As the sky darkened, Melanie, a golden retriever, scanned the destroyed city. The only home she knew. She missed the cars weird noises, it's people mostly. But after the huge earthquake, she had decided it was time to look for other dogs and stick together if it were to survive. She thought about joining her brother's Pack, but decided against it. She made her way down the destroyed roads as she whined in sadness. "Goodbye, city.." she growled and went on her way.


She didn't now how long she had been trotting forward until she glanced at the sky. It was very dark. She gulped nervously and tried to find shelter. Rain started to pour, but she refused to stop until she finally felt her legs give way. I might as well give up... she thought.The rain was too heavy to hear the barking of another dog...

The barking was coming from Obari, an Irish Setter, who had been away, living in close to isolation, though there were some dogs that passed by here or there, they wouldn't stay for long though. He thought this wolf would be no different until he saw her fall to the ground and he quickly rushed over to her from where he was perched. "Hey!" He barked as he ran up to her. "Hey! Get up! You can't just go sleeping in the rain! You know how dangerously stupid that is? Get up!" He shouted, now nearly next to the retriever.

"Now don't come over here with an attitude like that. The way it was looking, you seemed ready to give up. Lie down and die as I've heard some say it." He turned back towards the direct he came from. "I have a shelter big enough for the two of us. Come on. Let's get you out of this rain." Without waiting for her to respond, he walked away towards the shelter, which was a small cave on the side of a hill, however it did it's job of keeping the rain and the wind out.

Obari nodded his head in greeting. "Pleasure to meet you Melanie. The names Obari. What brings you out to this place out here. You smell like city folk to me, though the rain is doing a good job washing that scent away."

She sheepishly shrugged. "Some earthquake hit the city so...the city's empty. I'm guessing I'm one of the only dogs that survived..."

He shook his head at her response. "That's terrible. I felt some ground shake out here, I guess this place didn't get hit as hard." He looked outside in the rain, the sound of the rainfall hitting the stones filled his ears. "Where do you plan on going after this storm clears?"

She looked at the dirt. "I-I wasn't exactly planning on going anywhere..but..I guess I have no choice if I want to survive..." she sounded defeated, so depressed.

Obari kept his gaze outside in the rainfall. "Adapt or go extinct. That's what my mother told me when I was young." He told her. "You're welcome to stay here until you figure out what your plans are. I do not mind at all."
