Perhaps they should try out for the new Shields rank in RiverClan!



With the recent attack from ShadowClan, and tensions still mounting with ThunderClan most likely plotting in the distance, Kestrelstar has taken it upon himself to implement guards once more in the Clan. These cats will be strong, assessed thoroughly, and put into a position where their sole job is to defend the Clan and keep an eye out for any suspicious behavior.

This includes - but is not limited to:
- Spotting any rogues/loners/outsiders that have reached close to camp
- Helping with any Clan preparations under Kestrelstar's and Splashleap's orders
- Watching for any suspected disloyal cats among the Clan

A couple of things to note:
- These cats will be working closely with Kestrelstar and Splashleap to help ensure RiverClan is running smoothly. Kestrelstar will rely on them, and as such he expects a certain level of activity and presence in the Clan. Attending meetings, generally contributing to the Clan are all things they will be looking for. If at any moment either Kestrelstar or Splashleap feel as though one of the Shields is slacking off, they will get one warning. If another incident occurs, they will be dismissed from the rank.

- With a character holding this position, the user will be assigned 1-2 threads to sort of "monitor" for any unusual activity. Shields will have blanket permission to step in and handle it, or signal for either Kestrelstar or Splashleap to come over and handle it, given the interaction takes place in a public thread.

With that being said...

Powerplay kills, exiles, and the like are not part of their job description. If they have concerns, they are welcome to bring them to the HR's attention with any advice they may have, and either Kestrelstar, Splashleap, or Snakeheart will handle it.

Essentially, these warriors are going to be part of a group that both Kestrelstar and Splashleap consult with before making any decisions in regards to the Clan. To attack, to not attack, to retaliate in any way, how to prepare for leaf-bare, etc. While Kestrelstar and Splashleap will have the final say over what action takes place, this group will have the opportunity to let their voices be heard - essentially, they're representing the majority of RiverClan.

ENCOURAGED TO APPLY: Loyal cats, hardworking cats, those who want the best for RiverClan. Even if your character is judgmental of the current HRs of the Clan - they are welcome to apply! Kestrelstar will be looking for a diverse group to fill these guard slots!

Why Do They Want To Be A Shield?- She feels weird after the Snakeheart incident and gas a feeling that she needs to redeem herself (even if she didn't nothing wrong) and is also going into an almost depressed state and wants to combat it by getting immersed in responsibility. Also enjoys ant self-improvement she can get.

"I don't like that i'm here against my greater judgment, I would've rather just gone directly to Kestrelstar but I guess I'll go along with your silly interview. I don't really keep track of my age anymore, but I assume i'm somewhere near the early 20 moons, so maybe 21 moons? I identify as male, and how do you even ask someone that question? I've no idea what to describe myself as.. "

well.. thats fine as those questions were stuff you filled out on the form anyway! now, for the more important question. why is it that you want to become a shield?

"I guess its because, I feel like i've yet to make myself useful to RiverClan since I returned. Its the exact same feeling I had during my apprenticeship and my early warrior days. I guess knowing that im assigned to something bigger and with a lot of responsibility lets me know that I'm very much helping RiverClan and not just leaching off it."

what makes you feel like you aren't useful to riverclan?

"I guess its the fact that my father was like that, so therefore I assume I'm like that too. He was deputy and a horrible one at that. I don't ever want to feel like a bad clan-mate but I suppose I've already accomplished that by disappearing like I did. I want.. no I NEED to be strong for this clan thats been built up and I don't want to weigh down on it by not proving myself useful."

Beeblaze flinched, looking around wildly. He had been investigating a small cave he had discovered whilst hunting, and there seemed to be nothing too odd about it. Except now. A loud booming voice echoed through the cavern. Where did it come from? Was it another cat? His bright yellow gaze scanned the smooth stone walls once more, though didn’t see anywhere a cat may be hiding. “Uh… Hello?” Beeblaze asked the disembodied voice, utterly confused. “Um, where are you? If I may ask.” A soft chuckle followed his words, then the strange voice spoke once again.

Beeblaze stood frozen staring at nothing in particular, still trying to figure out what was happening. The voice sounded like it was losing patience, and, whatever it was, he did not want to anger it. “Beeblaze?”

Beeblaze? Don’t ask your name like a question, you know it don’t you?

“Yes.” A scowl was beginning to form on the cream-colored tom’s face. Who was this voice to mock him? Certainly any cat would be confused if some voice was speaking to them from the void. “And who are you?” His tone was indignant.

Hmm, you’ve got some dignity to you, at least. Age?

Okay, he was definitely irritated now. The tom narrowed his sharp amber eyes, he was about ready to go back to camp and leave this cursed cave for somebody else to deal with, but something made him hesitate. Was it a rogue playing tricks? Beeblaze would definitely have to chase them off. Or perhaps Starclan themselves were speaking to him? He wasn’t sure, but he felt obligated, despite his frustrations, to find out. For now, though, he simply glared at nothing in silence.

Fine. If you must know, my name is Spade. Now would you please answer? I’ve got things to do. So, age?

Spade, that was definitely a rogue name, or maybe a kittypet. “22 moons. Anything else?” Maybe he shouldn’t be getting snappy with the freaky disembodied voice, but who were they to be asking all these questions?

Yes. What are your thoughts on Riverclan?

This was a harder question, as Beeblaze himself was still trying to figure that out. “Well… I love my clan. I always have, and always will. I want what’s best for Riverclan.” That was the part he was confident in, now for the tricky part. “As for Kestrelstar, however…” He still wasn’t sure of his thoughts on the leader. Before he had been quite bloodthirsty, for lack of a better word. But after his prophecy and journey outside of Riverclan? Well, Beeblaze wasn’t sure. “He says he wants to be better, and is holding himself accountable for his actions, but how do I know he’s being truthful? Or if he is, who’s to say he’ll stay committed to the idea? Honestly, I don’t know him very well. He may as well be a stranger, and I don’t necessarily think it’s fair to judge him when I don’t know him.” Beeblaze paused, painfully aware he had been talking for a while now, but why not dump everything on to this strange voice? He had nobody better to talk to. “I think I’d like to get to know him better, see who Kestrelstar really is as a cat. If I don’t know him, then it’s so easy for me to place shallow judgements on him, when they may not be true.” He wanted to like Kestrelstar, to believe his leader was doing the best he could for the clan, but it was hard to know for sure. “Regardless of leadership, I will remain loyal to Riverclan.” The fluffy tom concluded.

Interesting. Tell me, do you prefer hunting or fighting?

There were more questions? Starclan help me, Beeblaze muttered silently. He mulled over the question for a moment before answering, “I think that’s a subjective question. Do I enjoy fighting in that I enjoy harming other cats? No. Definitely not. Do I enjoy fighting in the aspect of defending my clan? Yes. If I have to shred the pelt of every Thunderclan cat to ensure the safety of the queens, kits, elders, and any other cat in Riverclan, I will gladly do so.” He paused, perhaps his answer was a bit confusing, he himself was still confused. The strange voice, the mysterious cave, the super personal questions? What in the stars was going on? “To put it simply, I’ll take a border patrol over a hunting patrol any day.” When he personally did border patrols, he felt a sense of security. It made the tom feel relieved to know for certain that the clan was safe, having walked the borders and observed what was happening with his own two eyes. He knew some cats groaned at the thought, finding the long walks and meticulous inspection of the border mundane, but Beeblaze viewed it as a perfect way to represent Riverclan in all its strengths.

Perfect, I think we’re done here.

“Done? Why- what was the point of this?” Beeblaze asked, bewildered, but he received no answer. There was a sharp crack and the small cavern had vanished, like it had never been there. Beeblaze now stood in a murky section of marsh, the slimy water lapping at his paws. He lifted a forepaw, wrinkling his nose in disgust, “Thanks a lot!” He called out sarcastically, though he was certain the voice was no longer there. He waded out of the muck, muttering curses under his breath as he did so, and trotted back towards camp, still puzzled as to what in Starclan’s name had happened.

Prefix and suffix meanings and how they got them

Fawn

He got this prefix by his mother who has passed away sadly. It was supposed to contrast with his fawn spotted fur. His gentle structure also represented that of a fawns and his small black nose only added to the ascetic. His long legs where also carefully considered by his father who also agreed to name his son fawnkit many moons ago.

Spring

He got this suffix during spring and for that matter and another he was given the suffix spring. His long legs played a major part in this, while him being quite short and all he made up for his strength and how far he could jump.

Im pretty well trained if I do say so myself! After all who else could leap into the middle of the stream to catch a fish? My eyesight is nothing to sneeze at my dear friend although I may be slightly blind in my left eye my right eye is just as if I had a perfect pair of eyes in one! I’m loyal and I really love my clan after all they love me too right? Hmm…there are a lot of good cats in riverclan and mostly I feel as though I haven’t contributed enough to be considered worthy of this clan. Brief Personality- Hardworking and dutiful, her first priority in life (until recently) has been to her Clan first and foremost and it's continued growth and wellbeing, uncaring of who this progress is overseen by. There are maybe two cats she would consider the wellbeing of to be more important than her duty and woe be upon the cat that's stupid enough to threaten them.
As her name suggests, she is endlessly loyal when her trust is earned and a fierce opponent to face, combining her intelligence and muscle to her fighting style. She has a soft spot for helping older apprentices, and especially ones that have gone through several mentors.
Why Do They Want To Be A Shield?- To better serve and protect her Clan. She feels too much has slipped by due to uncaring or inattentive cats not doing their duty to protect their clanmates.
Any Other Relevant Information- She probably wouldn't suggest overthrowing Kestrelstar So long as he proves to be nothing like RiverClan's last leader (who she still actively holds a dislike for); she's mostly neutral about the current High Ranks aside from Snakeheart, who she has a rather positive outlook on
