Here's the thing: Alderstep kept waking up early, but at least this time he woke up with a possibly good idea. That idea led to him wasting his whole morning, but it was all worth it, no matter how sore his muscles were. He was just glad he hadn't torn his claws, what with all the frantic scrambling up trees he'd done.

Hopefully, his clanmates would appreciate his effort, because Alderstep hardly appreciated it himself. "Hey!" he called out. "Anyone interested in a climbing competition, c'mere." At the very least, his clanmates could get as tired as he was. His actual intentions were to just refresh those tree-climbing skills. Make sure they were all the squirrels the other clans were determined to call them. Once some cats turned up, he explained the fairly simple rules.

"Y'see these trees? I marked them up. When I say, 'go', you're gonna climb up your tree to the mark as fast as you can before I say 'out'. If you don't make it to your marker before I say 'out', you get a strike. Because I'm nice, you'll get three strikes until you're disqualified. You're gonna stay up that tree until I say 'go' again, and you better reach the ground before I call 'out' again. Understood? Great." If a single cat had any questions... shoot, wait. "There are multiple markers, by the way. You go up to the first one, then the second, and so on each time you go up the tree. Oh, and don't any of you dare fall. Now, go find a tree." There. That's all there had to be explained.

[apprentices with at least one climbing lesson and warriors can participate in this; the event does count as a learning experience too. who makes it before 'out' is called is decided by a 20 sided die. apprentices have lower chances because that's how life works. the chances get slimmer for both warriors and apprentices as the game goes on, sort of like the pacer test if you've ever taken it. my next post will be on July 8th, 12am CST! come yell at me if you've got any questions]

Woodpaw had been lying around in camp too much. He hadn't wanted to train, or do anything really. He had managed to choke down a vole earlier, and though his ribs were still poking through, he surprisingly felt slightly better. Maybe energised enough to climb a tree. So following the deputies voice, the brown tom joined the event, surprised that he was among the first few to arrive.

Cypresskit popped her head out of the nursery.

She ran up to Alderstep, and kept signing out
"I wanna do it! Me Me!"

[Treepaw]

The brown tabby she-cat darted from the apprentices den at the sound of her mentors voice. Her green eyes were alight with wonder as she sat before him and listened. Nothing less than a smile played on her face. Great! She can use that climbing lesson he just gave her to do this!

"I bet I can win!" Treepaw announced, racing up to the nearest marked tree and awaiting Alderstep to begin.

A tree climbing lesson? The nine moon old molly stuck her head out from the medicine den as oriental-shaped ears listened in on what Alderstep was instructing. Well, Springpaw hadn’t been one much for climbing trees, and this sounded both interesting and worrisome at the same time. She didn’t want to risk anyone falling off a tree and risking a bone or two getting broken now, did she? If someone fell, they would have to be taken straight into the medicine den so that they could get checked out asap. Nonetheless, the event sounded like a good practice for herself as she hadn’t really climbed up trees before, the same possibly going for other apprentices as well. So, with a small shrug and roll of her shoulders, the long-furred feline made her way towards the gathering apprentices, glancing at the trees that Alderstep spoke about. No one wouldn’t mind her watching and participating at the same time, right?

Oh ho, fun. Bumblestar trotted over, giving Alderstep a mildly approving look. He was doing things without her asking him to. Awesome.

Tail twitching, she found a tree to sit down in front of. This might be tough to do with her injuries still protesting... which she kept forgetting to have looked at. Oops. She wondered if Drizzlecloud would be pissed.

Attendance was rather low, the turnout rate was a smidge depressing. Where was the competitive spirit when it was needed? Oh well. Alderstep studied the small group, surprised to see Springpaw. It couldn't hurt to have an on-site herb cat, though he honestly felt that if someone fell from a tree they deserved it, and should never call themselves a ThunderClanner. Perhaps he was a bit wrong for that.

And then there was Treepaw. Good to see that she had the initiative to practice her skills. He wasn't surprised to see her, though. He was surprised to see Bumblestar. At least she approved. His original idea was to throw cats from the treetops and see who did the most flips, so at least he knew he had made the right decision to switch directives. Stars know what a disaster his original idea could've been.

Right. Time to get on with it. Alderstep took up a spot where he could see all the cats clearly and- there was a kit. The russet tabby blinked at it, confused by what it was gesturing. Huh? The deputy hesitated, trying to figure out what to do. Obviously, he couldn't let the kid climb, that would be the dumbest thing he's ever done. "You can watch. Take notes, kid," Alderstep ended up saying, studying Cypresskit for a moment longer before moving on.

"Ready? First mark, go!" He called out.

Dragonflycliff was more of a leaper. She'd strike a part of the tree and climb from there.

Strike it she did, but the jump itself was not very graceful or tall. She got ready to go further.
