The Tale of the Heartbroken.
Who Turned into the Heartbreaker.
Ever wondered why Mr. Player Burn is the way he is? Well, if you want to know, you've come to the right place. Every detail of his childhood has led up to the cat he is now. All that's left to do is to share it, so he can be understood.
Because every cat deserves a second chance.
---
It all started when he was a kit....
Flamekit was born into a loving, pure Thunderclan, young family. His mother and father loved each other dearly, and they had had kits at a very young age due to how much in love they were, and how they knew they wanted each other. Flamekit's mother treated him and his brother, Passionkit, well. Her name was Springingsky, and she was a very gentle mother, but strict as well. She knew how to run a family, and she disciplined her sons, teaching them the ways of being a gentleman. Her sons followed her every word, both being big momma's boys. Flamekit's father was a respected young warrior. His name was Flamingpassion, and both of their kits had been named after him. He was an amazing cat, a good father, a bold warrior, and a wonderful mate. But for some reason, he always seemed to be watching Flamekit's every move. Criticizing him, and telling him how to do something correctly. Springingsky and Passionkit didn't seem to notice anything different in his behavior, but Flamekit saw it. His father hated him, and Flamekit had no idea why. Sure, he was the smaller one of the two kits, but he had an excellent brain, one that could be used excellently for good. Or bad. And Flamekot loved his father. He wanted to impress him. But soon it became too much for the kit. Flamingpassion continued to breathe up Flamekit's neck, until one day, Flamekit snapped and lashed back at his father. Springingsky and Passionkit were both there to witness it, and Springingsky had thought she had taught her kits to respect their father. Flamekit tried to explain what happened, but neither of his parents would listen to him. Passionkit was the only one that would, and Flamekit ranted to him all that their father had done to him. Passionkit convinced him that it would probably blow over when they became apprentices.
But as they neared apprentice age, things only got worse.
Flamekit was deemed extremely temperamental, and, with a lot of his father's convincing, forced under a more strict family code to follow. Although one only he had to follow. Passionkit was clearly the favored one, in his father's eyes at least. Springingsky loved both of her kits dearly and equally, and did not know why Flamingpassion wanted to enforce stricter rules on Flamekit. Passionkit also loved his brother, and tried to help him as much as he could, because he didn't think that the treatment was fair at all. Although he said he understood why their father did it. Flamekit was angry that no one understood him. And he wanted nothing more to do with his father. He hated his name, something that stood for that cat whom loathed him, and he loathed, so deeply.
The day of Flamekit's apprentice ceremony, there was a large fire on Thunderclan's territory. It spread to just inside of the camp, where Flamekit had been resting. He had woken up and tried to run, but a burning branch fell on his left leg, trapping him. Still young, he had difficulty trying to free himself. As he was struggling, and in pain from the fire singing his fur and burning his skin, he spotted his father, and called out to him. But Flamingpassion did not come. He saw Flamekit struggling, but he simply gave him a cold look with his green eyes, and ran off, away from the fire and Flamekit. Now, Flamekit was temperamental, and instead of becoming more panicked and devastated, that action caused anger to burn inside of the young tom's heart, and he used that strength to wrap his tail around the branch trapping his leg, freeing himself. He was severely burnt, but he was free.
After spending a moon in the medicine den with Zerosight, Flamekit was able to walk again. His back left leg and tail were permanently black, the fur singed beyond repair. His muscles still worked, but he could no longer feel his leg or tail. He had adjusted to simply knowing where his foot was supposed to be where and when. Passionpaw had been made an apprentice a moon before Flamekit, so he was a moon ahead in training. Something that reflected badly in the already neglected kit. His mother was just glad he was alive, but his father scolded him for getting caught in that branch. For just laying there when there was a fire. Flamekit lost his temper and yelled at his dad for leaving him, but in the end he was scolded for telling "such lies."
And the poor kit's hatred only grew towards his father.
Flamekit's apprentice ceremony finally rolled around, just short of 2 moons after his brother's. Flamekit promised himself he would train as hard as he could to become a warrior with his brother. He wanted to prove to his fox-hearted father that he was just as good, maybe even better, than Passionpaw. But Flamekit would not stand to be named after his father any longer. So, he asked his leader if his name could be changed. The leader agreed, suspecting his reasons were because of his injuries, and he wanted to live up to them. But Flamekit had a different meaning. He became Burntpaw, because he wanted to prove to his father that just because he was injured, did not mean he was done. He was still burning with life. As he went through his apprenticeship, Burntpaw's temper continued to get the better of him, and he was constantly having outbursts. He also became more unreasonable, not listening to anyone's advice. He trained hard and dangerously, pushing himself far past his limits, but he continued to train this way. His apprenticeship was no longer a learning experience. It was a competition, a comparison, a war. To see who was better. Passionpaw, the gentleman and the beloved, or Burntpaw, the dejected and the hater. All aspects of his former obedient, helpful personality disintegrated into dust as Burntpaw continued his apprenticeship. He became even more ruthless, often hurting himself and others in his dangerous training. His mother constantly tried to talk some sense into him, but he wouldn't listen. And he was tired of her pestering. His father was trying to convince all of Thunderclan that Burntpaw was dangerous, and needed to be taken care of and exiled, immediately. Passionpaw had started to fear his brother, wondering what had become of him. Accomplishing his goal, Burntpaw became a warrior with his brother. Passionpaw became Passionblaze, and Burntpaw became Burntheart, due to rejected love. From his father.
Burntheart was far too into his maddened state to be pulled out now, but someone changed that. Burntheart met this she-cat named Birchpaw, whom he instantly had a connection with. Around her, Burntheart was calm and happy, a flicker of the cat he truly was showing beneath. Birchpaw understood how he felt, she had been rejected by both of her parents, and left alone to die as a young loner kit. Until Thunderclan took her in that is. She was much younger than Burntheart, but he felt himself falling in love with her. When she became a warrior, earning her name Birchflower, Burntheart knew he had to ask her to be his mate. But in the moon he was readying himself to, she became distant. So, Burntheart laid off for a while, just being her friend, even though he was madly in love with her. He wanted to make sure it was the perfect time, so she could say yes.
Burntheart didn't want his heart to break, with it already being so fragile from his kithood.
After about five moons of waiting, Burntheart finally gathered up the courage to ask her to be his mate. She rejected him, saying she was in love with someone else. Burntheart, not wanting his heart to break, convinced himself that she was in love with him, she just wasn't ready to be his mate yet. So, he waited a few more moons, but in that time, noticed she was growing plumper and plumper by the day. Being good friends, Birchflower trusted Burntheart with a secret, and so she told him she was having kits, and the father was a Shadowclan tom, Wolfglare, who she had fallen in love with.
And that was when Burntheart's heart broke, shattering into a million peices, and he became the heartbroken.
He disowned Birchflower as his friend right then and there, telling her he didn't care about her problems. He had no one to go to to rant, or to just cry on their shoulder. His mother was busy with his brother, his brother was a well-known and respected warrior, and his father hated him. Burntheart felt so rejected, and he finally realized that his father had only always wanted a family of three. The mom, the dad, and the obedient kit. And Burntheart was the unlucky kit that had to be punished for being born into their family. This realization broke Burntheart's heart even more, and he became a sensitive, skittish cat, opposite of who he truly was.
After a moon, Burntheart met a she-cat named Mapleheart, who had been crushing on him for a long time, and in despair and want for love, he asked her to be his mate. She of course said yes, and the two grew inseparable. After a moon Burntheart realized he truly loved Mapleheart, but not as much as he had loved Birchflower, whom now had given birth to two healthy, half-clan kits, Dawnkit and Eveningkit. Burntheart wanted those kits dead. They were supposed to be his kits, not some Shadowclan tom who was apparently much better than he was.
Not long after Birchflower gave birth, Mapleheart gave birth to a beautiful ginger kit. Burntheart was repulsed. She looked so much like him, and so much like Flamingpassion, his father. As he looked at his kit, Burntheart realized that he was supposed to love her, care for her. Well, his father hadn't done that for him, so why should he do that for his kit? He named her Foxkit, Mapleheart believing for her coloring, but Burntheart's intentions were for her to know that she was an absolute fox-heart for being born. And Burntheart supposed he shouldn't give Mapleheart love either, since Birchflower had rejected him. So that very same day Foxkit was born, Burntheart up and left Thunderclan.
He took on the name Burn and became a rogue. And that was when the heartbroken, became the heartbreaker. Burn started using his intelligence and wit for manipulating females, and then breaking their hearts, like Birchflower had done to him. And, if they had kits, leaving the kits without a father to support and care for the family. They didn't deserve it. Burn's heart is surrounded by so much hate and thirst for revenge, that he no longer feels any emotions. The cat he truly is is still deep inside of him, but it's not coming out anytime soon.
So, Burn roamed around for the first few moons of his life as a rogue, seeing places he'd never seen, and all in all enjoying his freedom.
After a little while, he went back to hang around Thunderclan's borders, and saw that a battle was taking place. Little did he know it was the Thunderclan liberation battle. He stood on the sidelines and watched he cats fight to the death, completely emotionless. The only thing that sparked emotion in him was when he saw his beloved brother fighting a larger cat then himself. Burn may be cruel, but Passionblaze was his brother, the only cat other than his mother that had shown him unwavering love. He had been about to leap in and help, but then he saw his father, perfectly fine, no hint of a scratch on him, simply watching as his brother was fighting for his life. All of his pent up anger for his father exploded, replaced by a new fire, and he was determined to bring his father down.
To burn him.
Leaping into the battle, Burn headed straight for his father, having the element of surprise and attacking him. Flamingpassion was surprised to see it was Burn, but he fought back. The two large ginger toms fought for a while, matched in size and strength. As Burn had grown a whole lot since he was a lot. But then, Flamingpassion was able to pin him down. He told Burn that he always knew he was going to turn into a disgrace. And that he was never meant to be born. Neither was his brother, because Passionblaze loved Burn so much. And Burn was supposed to be invisible, not there. To the other members of his family, Flamingpassion was a nice, amazing father. But his true, vicious, wanting to abide by the rules nature has always shown around Burn. So, Flamingpassion decided the best thing to do with a disgrace, was to kill him. So Burn's father rose his paw to make the final strike, but just then, a gray-furred feline leaped into Flamingpassion, biting into his neck and killing him. Burn watched as his father fell on top of him, the life draining out of his green eyes. The she-cat told Burn to get out of there, before his scent was mingled with the blood. So Burn rocketed out of there, surprised at what had happened. After that point, he never knew if it was himself who had killed his father, or that gray she-cat who had introduced herself as Frost, the short time they had talked.
So, Burn lived alone again, trying to refocus his mind from the drastic things he had experienced. Since his father was dead he could go back to Thunderclan and live a happy life. But his family probably wouldn't accept him. Neither would his ex-mate, Mapleheart. So, he decided to get down to business.
The tom made it over to Windclan, where he decided his first "victim" would be. He wasn't a killer, but he would kill if necessary. He'd practically done it once, couldn't he do it again? In his terms, victims were she-cats whose hearts he would break. Burn met this Windclan warrior named Searwhisper, who really had no one who loved her in her own clan because of her heritage. Her brother had been Windclan's evil leader, and so she was looked down upon because of that. But Burn showed her love, showed her kindness. Manipulating her heart, and making her fall in love with him. Once she had, Burn stayed with her a little longer, enjoying the company. She was pretty enough, and Burn respected her. But as soon as she announced she was pregnant with his kits, Burn left that same night. He left Searwhisper bearing five kits, Blizzardkit, Cloudedkit, Scorchingkit, Echokit, and Rowankit. Five more editions to the fatherless kits that would soon be all over the clans.
Burn would make sure of that.
