Thunder rumbled in the ground, awaking every cat in the Clan. It wasn't anything new, but it was startling nonetheless. The leader called the Clan to order, telling them it was time to move camp to one of the other, impending another ground-rake that had been rearranging the land lately, but unease filled the cats. For leafbare, the ground was warm, and steam leaked through pools and cracks in the earth. While most liked to keep their paws dry, it was odd. Very odd. And no one was buying that something wasn't happening.

Rumbles. Hot, hot- hot! It got hotter and hotter as they gathered up their able-bodied, unable to spare a moment any cat who couldn't make the journey. Elders, the sick, the Clan was a flurry of activity and barely-concealed panic and -

BOOM.

StarClan came from the mouth of their sacred mountain home, spewing black smoke and ash, and red liquid that started to cascade down the mountain rocks and burning the forest around them.

"RUN!" the leader shouted, but it fell on deaf ears as every Clan cat had already bolted.

Ash fell. One by one, cats succumbed to the hot liquid they'd once praised.

Those who ran fastest survived, those who did not, would not. A cat didn't have to be the fastest, but only faster than the cat behind them.

Two in total survived. A tortie named Silverwing and a smoke tom named Mistdusk.

Uprooted from their home, they decided to find a new one far from the Burning Mountain. One that would be able to outlast the one they'd lived in their whole lives.

 

This is a legacy challenge. I may not accept any loners or kittypets except during moon events, or unless I'm trying to find unrelated mates for kits. Cats MUST be related to the founding pair in some way, be their offspring or the other parent of one of their descendants. I will start with two cats, indicated on the allegiances by [F] for founder. Generations will start at [G2], and parentage will be dictated in the allegiances.

This is also a writelocke, meaning I will write everything that I come across with RiseClan.

Two lovers found themselves coughing, ash in their lungs, but alive. They were lost, but they supposed this place was their home now, and quickly set about making it somewhat liveable. Large, hollow, awful-smelling things dotted the surrounding landscape, but they were at least some form of shelter and the two round up a few to make some sort of a den. Hard, terrible work for a couple of cats, the loss of their Clan still fresh in their mind.

"Silverwing? It's getting late... and... I'm hungry-" Mistdusk's voice was hoarse from not talking for the majority of the day. "Let's go scout out... whatever territory this is. See where prey is."

Silverwing nodded, and the two set off. There wasn't much. The grass felt ashy and unclean, the trees thin and scrawny. The single stream nearby wasn't even enough for a drink and held no fish. Prey would prove scarce. Twolegs seemed to exist in any scenario, and they did discover a kittypet, sick and injured. She pleaded for help.

Silverwing's cold reply hadn't even given the cat time to catch her breath. "No."
