Many years ago, this barn was home to many animals. Cows, horses, even sheep. This now-rotting shelter was named after the lights that were put up every winter.

Now, the barn is abandoned. Lights haven't been strung up in many seasons.

Formerly home to injured cats, hay is strewn around the ground, and cloth left behind makes up the majority of the nests.

Marigold and Catmint grow at the barn, planted by the workfolk that once resided here. Cobwebs are found almost everywhere, slowly collecting over time.

being alone was his absolute dream. but... knowledge was far greater to him. knowledge, to poison, to heal, to kill, to nurture, that was absolute power. considering he yearned for knowledge to carry, stories to trade. some testing to find out some of that, wouldnt be so bad, right?

departing from his small, rundown shed, he set out to find a larger, also abandoned area to do some... testing.

a long, long while later. several days, even, he found a large barn. still well in condition, and yet, the scent of workfolk was nowhere to be found.

cautiously stepping inside, the silents' swept his gaze across the building. strange. why was it abandoned? what caused the workfolk here to leave?

light fell into the barn through a hole in the ceiling, dust lined the ground, accompanied by hay. continuing to move across the ground, the wordsmith noted the open stables. horses used to live in each one, yet all of them were clean.

keeping his senses open, vanta peered into each stable, in one, there was a large, metallic object, a perfect place to store things.

using his tail to brush away the dust from the ground of the pen, he stepped outside, and marked the outside of the pen he claimed with an 'x' shape using his claws, which cut through the wooden wall with ease.

he needed something to test with, so the wrathful set out to find potentially useful plants. exiting the barn, he searched.

dark paws moving through the foliage, a bright purple, star-shaped flower caught his eye. he plucked a stem that carries both the flowers and the leaves and carried on.

as he was walking, searching for anything else that interested him, he thought of something to call the strange purple blooms. purple-stars. so creative, he knows!

aha! a fir-like bush with dark blue berries... interesting! though, the leaves and berries were attached to a branch. using his claws, he cut a branch free, and took a seperate path to return so he had a greater chance to find anything else, however, unfortunately he didnt.

vanta re-entered the barn, still cautious, swiping dust away, he placed his findings down inside the metallic object.

"this one i think i'll call it.. pineberry." he muttered to himself.

Dark russet-tipped paws tread lightly on the ground as the ginger she-cat makes her way through a rather unfamiliar territory. She spots an old barn in the distance, eyes narrowing as she catches slight movement from within. It looks abandoned. And it looks like it had been that way for moons and moons. But Vervain makes her way towards it anyway.

She stops at the old entrance, peering inside, icy-blue hues narrowing as she scanned the inside of the dark barn. It seems like there are clumps of hay and cloth, perhaps makeshift nests. Do cats live here? Vervain parted her jaws to taste the air, scenting nothing but sickness and injury. She grimaces, but heads inside regardless.

"This your place?" She mutters to the dark-furred cat she spots inside. The stranger was just barely visible, the splash of white across their face being the only thing she could see from a distance. "... It's quite messy. And unpleasant. Can't believe anyone would willingly live here." This was probably the worst way to make an introduction, but she couldn't help herself. Honesty is key. Right?

he was just bringing cloth scraps back to the barn and there's a whole ass cat there. well. dropping the dark cloth, he narrowed his amber hues. "i jus' found this place. 'n 'm gettin' it cleaned up." he flicked his white ear "i used t' live quite a whiles way from 'ere."

"yer name?" he asked bluntly. " 'n i don' take too kindly t' cats intrudin' in my place without somethin' they need or somethin' t' tell me."

Ahh, Vervain could tell exactly what kind of cat this one was. The corners of her lips tugged up in a smile, and her tail twitched in amusement behind her.

"Interesting, how you found such a place and decided it was good enough for you," She took another moment to look around, ear twitching at the sight. "Could definitely use some cleaning, so good you're doing that, hm?" The ginger tabby turned back to the black-furred feline, sitting down and curling her tail around her paws.

"Vervain," she said, the smile returning. "Apologies for intruding. I don't mean harm. Just... Wondering why this place smells like dead animals. What do you do in here?" She let out a small huff of laughter. "And your name?"

ugh. this cat was so chatty. the silent had to force himself from painting a scowl across his face.

"well, vervain. i've been tryin' t' learn some new thin's. mainly healin' plants." he... admittedly didn't know the true word for it. but eh. it was no real issue, right? RIGHT? would he be painted weird for saying healing plants? probably.

"vanta. so? got anythin' or need anythin'?"

Now she was invested. Vervain’s eyebrows rose in amusement, her lips moving up in a warm smile.

“Healing plants, hm? I know a couple, might do you good. I assume you would like to know them?” She stood and gave her body a brief stretch before padding around the barn, poking around cracks in the ground and the wood. She really had no reason to do this, but she wasn’t going to sit around doing nothing. After a short while of poking around the barn, she turned and walked back to Vanta, tail held high and a pleasant expression on her face.

“So, what do you say? Up for a little lesson or two?” She offered the black feline a soft smile.

his ears perked at that. oooh. knowledge. a rare, slight smile twitched along his face. "how 'bout a trade? i got a few as well."

right. the cloth he had. he picked it back up, dragging it along the ground. bringing it into one of the stalls, shaping it into a sort of nest, then exiting.

"what d'ya know?"

Vervain’s smile deepened. The she-cat sat down again, slightly inching closer to Vanta. Knowledge trading, neat. Ha. She liked that idea.

“Sounds mint! Alright…” She narrowed her eyes and glanced around, though there was no real reason to and she expected to see nothing. “Catmint, comfrey, and lavender. Very useful herbs, if you ask me.” She cleared her throat, now fully faving the feline before her. There was going to be plenty of talking. “I’ll go over each one by one, if that is alright with you. So. Catmint. They sort of look like nettles, but they don’t sting. The leaves are a grey-greenish colour, and have pale purple flowers growing from it. Those make it quite easy to spot. You really only use the leaves for healing. The flowers are just a bonus, really. But they’re really pretty.” A gentle smile tugged at her lips. “They’re used to remedy greencough and whitecough. But you can’t use too much. They can be dangerous.” She frowned for a moment, thoughts whirling inside her head. “Wish I had them so I could show you, but I assume you understood what I said.” She gave a lighthearted smirk.

catmint... gray-green leaves, purple flowers. greencough, and whitecough. he wasnt sure what those illnesses were, but those were three new terms he knew! and a new plant!

"catmint. got it." he nodded as he listened. "marigold. yellow-t'-orange flowers. the leaves are shaped sorta like ferns. the plant grows low t' the ground. there might be some growin' 'round 'ere." he flicked his bushy tail, a cue to follow.

a very short walk after, he found a flowerbed. in which the playful orange blooms grew "very 'ardy plant. flowers for a long time. it does tend t' grow year after year." a short pause. "as for what it's used for, it can help stop infection, bleedin' from minor cuts 'n scrapes. inflamed joints, broken bones 'n flea bites."

"the flower 'n leaves can be crushed up t' be put on a wound. the seeds are edible but don' do anythin' "
