WindClan: Life Before 2023's Fire

HollowMist kept a close eye on her five kits. She wondered what a handful they would be once they started playfighting and complaining. She chuckled at the thought. She had hoped she would be able to raise them with her mate but at least she was now safe within a clan. Her only wish was to keep them safe, whatever she had to do. that was the only reason she went to a clan. She knew how secure they kept their clanmates. Expesscaily kits. She curled her tail about an inch or 2 closer to her litter of kittens. She wondered what they would be like when they could talk, what their personalities would be. She smiled, a purr rumbling deep in her throat as she watched them squirm like little slugs.

How are they so cute? When I was a kit I thought other kits were disgusting but these ones, their just like any other kit but they are so adorable. She wondered

As the large tom got up to attend whatever needed doing, he felt a small bump on his tail that made him turn around in confusion. A brow quirking upwards as Snowypaw glanced around, his feathery tail gave a slight twitch at the touch. Bright blue eyes landed on the culprit, and he was met with the sight of a young kit squeaking and shuffling to his paws, apologizing for... stepping on him?

Oh.

Unable to help himself, a small purr of amusement escaped the apprentice. Snowypaw was unsure if it was all the tumbles and clumsy hits he had taken as a kit - and during most of his apprenticeship if he were being honest - but for the most part, the gentle giant was fairly impervious to pain in most cases. Having his tail stepped on being one such scenario. He had stepped on it much worse... on multiple instances... at the same time while trying to get up. If anything, he had mostly felt the kit's stumble.

Tilting his head lightly to the side, Snowypaw gave the young WindClanner a lookover. He wanted to make sure that the kit wasn't hurt, after all. Wondering how the kit had tripped on him to begin with - he was a rather large mass to miss - Snowypaw swiveled his broad head around, giving the area an appraising look. Noticing he had been very inconveniently laying down smack dab in the middle of the clearing while staring out at the camp entrance, a small gulp escaped him, realizing he should be the one to apologize to his young companion instead. Turning his head back to look at the kit, the apprentice flashed a small, apologetic smile in return, closing his eyes as he shook his head softly.

"It was m-my fault. I should not have been in the way. I'm sorry," Snowypaw whispered back earnestly, his ears twitching slightly in embarrassment. Dipping his head in his usual, respectful nod, he turned his attention back on the kit, giving him a silent query as to his current state, still unsure the kit had not gotten hurt over his ill conceived placement while selfishly basking in what he could only call self pity. How could he, when there was a clan to serve? Surely being relegated to small camp shores was no reason to complain! After all, someone had to take care of those who needed the help. No matter. Nothing he could do about it now except make sure he hadn't caused any damage, and fix any that he had.

Waspkit was HUGELY EMBARRASSED. Why did a kit like him have to get embarrassed so easily!? Shame. The small light colored tom looked up into Snowypaw's eyes. He was... apologizing? For what, sitting? "No! You didn't do anything wrong! I wasn't looking where i was going!" He squeaked. Most kits made fun of him, and told him how much of a clutz he was. Most also called him careless, and rude... but he wasn't! Today, Waspkit was DETERMINED to prove that wrong.

A small sigh of relief escaped Snowypaw as his companion started talking once more, clearly more embarrassed than anything. True, he wasn't happy the poor kit was feeling any level of shame for something that could have been avoided had he simply been standing in a less inconvenient place, but at least the kit wasn't hurt. Still, he couldn't bring himself to further correct the little one. Snowypaw was far too well acquainted with wanting to desperately apologize for something he had done, and he knew the added guilt that came with a simple dismissal of the apology or a statement that it was not required. True, in this case it really wasn't, but he didn't want the kit to stress further over it. Instead, Snowypaw dipped his head gratefully once more, reluctantly accepting the apology.

A small smile crossed his features despite himself, the kit reminding him a little of Specklepaw. The anxious molly also seemed to get into a fit whenever he apologized, and instead proceeded to apologize herself despite having never slighted him. Obviously, like Twigkit, this youngster was simply too kind, thinking first of others before himself. WindClan was lucky to have such caring kits. They would no doubt turn into wonderful warriors eager to look out for their clan. With an approving nod, the gentle giant cleared his throat, deciding that staying quiet with this kit would probably not be the best way to address him.

"Well, no harm was done," the large apprentice assured the younger tom with a gentle voice. A questioning look crossed his face again, wondering if he had interrupted something, as the kit was obviously going somewhere with hurry in his step. "If I may ask, was there somewhere you had to be in a rush? I would be happy to be of assistance," Snowypaw added in a soft tone. He was being more verbose than he liked, but the kit seemed so distraught he hoped that this way he would show that he really was all right.

Waspkit sighed in relief as Snowypaw seemed to accept his apology. Then, he perked up at the question of where he was going. "The kits and queens say i have too much energy, so they kicked me out of the nursery for a few minutes." he mewed, running around the large apprentice once. "What was your name? Im Waspkit!" He mewed, heightening his butt into the air as his tail lashed behind him.

Fallownose's shot up at the sound of a shout, his fur bristling as he darted out of the warriors' den. His ears flattened as he realized what had been said, and he hurried over to where Ashclaw was. "Cowpaw, we need help for Lilypaw! Ashclaw, do you know what happened to Ravencloud?"

the warrior looked to the deputy with much worriedness" i do not know what happened i believe lilypaw can tell you, all i know is that i was out on a walk then having a feeling that something happened i went towards the thunderpath and found lilypaw on the side of the thunderpath she's a lot i also found that ravencloud was on the side of thunderpath there was another cat she was white i don't know who she is but i believe she dragged ravencloud off the thunderpath before i could get there, lilypaw knows more than me" he said with a bit of shaky voice terrified of what he found still, the warrior flicked his tail awaiting for what the deputy would say or what cowpaw or twilightstar might say

Scowling openly in a rare display of obvious discontent, Snowypaw scoffed, unsure if he had properly heard the kit - Waspkit, as he had introduced himself - or if maybe the young tom had misunderstood something a queen had said. If a queen had indeed thrown this poor kit out of the nursery, well... he couldn't really think of anything nice to tell such a queen. Another kit complaining was more understandable. Kits are still young, after all, and still learning to care for their clanmates as well as learning to share their surroundings.

It wasn't completely out of the question, however, that a queen had indeed thrown him out. Snowypaw himself had never been actively thrown out of the nursery, but it had always been made openly clear to him that he was not welcome in any of the queen's nests, some of them actively shielding their kits from him with their tails when he was around, giving him a pointed look that clearly stated he should leave the area. If that had been done to him despite his more quiet, demure nature, he could only assume that the reaction would be harsher on a more active, vocal kit.

Then again... perhaps Waspkit had only misheard or misconstrued what the others had said? Maybe there were sleeping kits - he was aware of some queens having recently given birth in the nursery - and it had merely been suggested for the rambunctious tom to take his play outside. Snowypaw's scowl visibly relaxed into a softer, more understanding facial expression. Yes, this was hopefully what had happened. He hated to assume the worse of WindClan's nursery residents, and if it had just been asked for a few minutes like Waspkit had said then it seemed the far likelier scenario. Still... it wouldn't hurt to go by the nursery and look into it later. Potentially when he took Twigkit his daily fresh kill and checked in on him for their daily talks. Yes, that seemed acceptable to him.

"Snowypaw," the gentle giant responded in his whisper of a voice, dipping his head in a silent pleased to meet you.

Waspkit was giggling as he rolled in the dirt, completely NOT LISTENING to the tom he'd just asked a question. When he heard the soft mew of the apprentice's voice, he leapt up in a startled demeanor. "huh? Sorry. Im not the best listener." The tom admitted, leaping up to 'dive' into the dirt. He squeaked with joy as he collided, might i add, quite hard, with the ground, and started rolling around again. This was so much FUN! Waspkit loved dirt! It was FUN! HE LIKED FUN!!

~ TULIPPAW OF WINDCLAN ~

Tulippaw's eyes went huge as she listened to all of Frostpaw's gossip. Stemstripe deserved to be exiled - messy and making a scene? No Clan deserved a warrior like him! Oh, so Snowleap had become leader - she thought she'd heard that he was called Pikestar now. Perhaps Frostpaw had just referred to him as Snowstar because it was customary for leaders to keep their prefix and get the -star suffix. She wondered why Pikestar hadn't. A purr escaped her as all the drama was relayed to her. "Well, that certainly sounds very eventful! I wish I had gone," she added with a hint of non-threatening jealousy. "I'll try to go the next time. Who knows? I might even be a warrior by then." Tulippaw could imagine herself as a warrior: radiant, perfect, making everybody fall in love with her. "But that's only if Hawkblaze actually teaches me how to hunt and fight. I've already fallen behind because of that useless cat Sorrelhawk, and I don't want to go back any further! What would my parents think if they were still here?"

Then Tulippaw remembered: Fallownose's offer to train her! Excitement filled her from nose to tail-tip. She had to tell Frostpaw! Her vivid, rich green eyes flashed as she leaned closer to her beautiful friend. "I just had the most eventful patrol!" she purred. "I was supposed to go out hunting, but since Hawkblaze hadn't taught me yet, the warrior who went with me - Nightheart - was supposed to. And she made an absolute fool of herself! I liked her at first since she treated me like the perfect cat I am - unlike Burrpaw - but then she failed! Failed to teach me hunting! Can you believe it? Teaching an apprentice to hunt isn't so hard; all you have to do is explain to them your tactics! But then, after she messed up, she threw a temper tantrum and yelled at me. Then she acted oh so apologetic before saying she'd do a better job at teaching me... and ruined it! Again! Such a failure of a cat. I still managed to catch a rabbit, though!" Tulippaw purred proudly, puffing out her chest. "Despite the failure of a teacher trying to instruct me. But it wasn't using any sort of usual hunting tactic - it was just my own smarts. I'll need a mentor who will actually teach me. Hawkblaze can teach fine, but Fallownose offered to go out on a training session with me! And both he and Twilightstar think I'm responsible!"
