Aster slipped through the door, and glanced back at the rabbit. They put a finger over their lips, signaling for him to be quiet. They flicked their tail, and raced up the stairs, glancing at Master Fortune's room as they passed. What have I gotten myself into...? My eyes flicker uncertainty around the house as I am led through it. I notice the cat watching a door warily as we pass, which sets my heart beating faster, but then we are in their room, and the door is closed. That is some relief, until I realise I have just trusted this stranger who's name I don't even know. What if they are working for Darkwood? I lick my lips nervously. "Uhh, ugh, err." I have no idea what I am trying to say.

Aster watched the rabbit nervously. "Uhm, what was your name? I don't think I got it..." They kept nervously glancing at the door, expecting Master Fortune to come knocking any second. Their tail swished in the air behind them anxiously. I'm gonna be so dead. Their paw kept fidgeting with the vile that sat safely in their pocket. Now I have two things to worry about!

Aster puffed out their chest, and said proudly, "I am Aster Koshkyn, alchemist apprentice to Master Fortune!" Then they were asked what was in the vile. Their mood quickly changed, and they pressed their paw over the pocket it was in. "N-nothing." Suddenly, there's a loud knock on Aster's door. "Up!" A gruff voice barked, making Aster nearly jump out of their fur. "Hide!" They quickly hissed to Ripple as the knocking pursued.

I yelp and dive behind the chair. It is a thin chair, and doesn't even cover my form. No good. I leap up again and search around for somewhere to hide. The room doesn't have many places to hide. The wardrobe and the bed seem to be my best options. Scrambling to the wardrobe, it is locked or jammed so I give up instantly and dive for under the bed. After a mad struggle I manage to squeeze under and tuck my legs in.

As soon as Aster was sure Ripple had hidden himself, they threw the door open. Standing behind it was an Australian Shepherd wearing a long grayish-green robe that had all kinds of crystals dangling from it. He looked annoyed. "Next time I want you to answer the door as soon as I start knocking!" He scolded. Aster pinned their ears and nodded. "Yes sir." They cast a glance to their bed, and then looked back at the dog. "I want you downstairs as soon as you have your clothes on." He growled, closing the door. Aster waited until the pawsteps could be heard no more before rushing to check under the bed.

It is dusty under here. It works it's way into my lungs, and I have to struggle not to cough. He pricked his ears to listen to the conversation between Aster and their master. What I can make out from sound and smell is that he is a dog. That is all. Maybe Leaf, or one of the others even, might have been able to identify more but I am not as experienced as they. Finally the door closes and I let out a hacking cough. Aster's face appears and I scramble out and shake the dust balls from my ears. "Right, what now?"

"Of- course," I say. I already know that I am not budging from this room, at least, not until I figure something out. "But this time, I need a better place to-" A lout rat-a-tat-tat sounds from the door downstairs. My ears droop lower. I know that sound all to well. "Foxes forbid! He has found me!"


Sir Darkwood stood in front of the door, teeth showing in a wicked smile, bushy red tail swishing with anticipation. He raised his cane to knock on the door again when it wasn't answered immediately. The scent of his pet had been hard to follow, though not impossible for someone like him. It had cut off completely though, not too far away and he was unable to pick it up. Still, he knew that this was the place the creatures would head, or at least one of them. He rapped the door again, harder.
