Everything about the training grounds felt odd. Hollow, even-- just off in some way. Raineyes supposed it was to be expected; nothing had looked the same after Cedarheart had left them all. She padded in, thick brown fur weighing her down in the cold. It was early, and the sky was washed with drab greys. Her breath came white, and the wind bit her face, but it felt good. She felt alive, at least. Kicking at a stray stone, she circled the border of the beaten dirt-path, blue eyes lazily scanning the treeline.

Things weren’t exactly coming up Raineyes, but they were coming up. She could appreciate that. Shadowclan wasn’t exactly experiencing an influx of joiners, but a small white molly had joined their ranks, and Rain was put in charge of her. It certainly felt strange being responsible for someone-- in the back of her mind, something familiar stirred-- but she’d agreed to it. At times like this, when Windystar had so much to deal with, she couldn’t just say no.

Still, she prowled, docked tail twitching as she thought her lonesome thoughts. If anything, she’d leave Moonpaw with enough to get by without being seen. In Shadowclan’s territory, you could make a colourpoint like her out from foxlengths. It simply wouldn’t do-- maybe that would be what she’d cover during their first lesson. If her apprentice was going to show up, anyways…

Raineyes stopped, and cast her eyes into the distance.

the molly’s life had been turned upside down to put it quite simply. she had lost everything her family her best friend but most of all she misse her sister. they ragdoll hadn’t had a good relationship with Swiftclaw yet Rainyeyes... she felt different. as the brisk air nipped at her soft pelt a twinge of excitement prickled the back of her throat. her ragdoll coat felt light and airy like there was nothing In between her skin and the leaf bare winds.

as white breath hovered in front of her muzzle she quickened her pace. Moonpaw was not really sure where she was going yet her new mentor’s scent was fresh in front of her. as a white breath hovered in front of her maw she could see the she-cat standing there, nothing around her. this felt strange where she had trained was a clearing surrounded by heather the sandy forest hollow had a strange— yet calming sensation to it. she felt exposed in this new place her blue gaze shifting from tree to tree before settling in on the other cat in the clearing.

her abdomen started to shake

Raineyes’ pupils slitted as she looked Moonpaw up and down, but as soon as she had arrived, she started to shudder. Rain's face contorted, and the dun-brown molly surged to her apprentice's side, pressing her fur to the smaller she-cat's. It didn't feel like quite the surprise, now— it was a common rumour that Windclan cats were skittish, but not to this extent. Internally, she thanked Starclan that Moonpaw was assigned to her, though. Other cats probably would have no idea what to do with her, or would've attempted to ‘snap her out of it’. A well-meaning, but ultimately useless thought. In a (close to) placating voice, Raineyes murmured, “It's— it's okay. You're okay, you're with me in the training hollow. No-one will hurt you here. All I need you to do is breathe, alright?”

The wind whistled in her ears, and she was a little uncomfortable having to do something like this for a relative stranger, but well. You won some, you lost some. Even if they shared warmth through the pressing of coarse fur, Raineyes felt dread drop in her stomach. They'd barely met, and she was already acting like a protector to this— this kit. If the child died, it would be on her. She had no idea what kind of home Mooneyes hailed from, or what sorts of family she had. The fact still stood, though: she had been blamed for one killing (Not truly, but she may as well have been. Her guilt spoke volumes,) and her reputation couldn't stand the accusation of another. Especially when this was an apprentice who could barely defend herself as it was.

Almost imperceptibly, she shivered. “Just breathe for me, Moonpaw.”
