Cherryblossom lifted his head up and heaved himself onto his paws, struggling a bit but he turned to face Aspenstar.


"Forgive me, Aspenstar," he began. He wasn't too sure how he would explain his disappearance as he barely remembered himself. "I've spent a while trying to find my way back... I wish I had an explanation but I dont have too many memories as to what happened. I must've lost my way bad pretty badly once it snowed... forgive me, I don't really remember..."

He felt guilty, of course. He hadn't meant to leave ThunderClan suddenly. He knew his excuse sounded pathetic but it was really the only logical thing he could come up with. Surely getting lost would make more sense than anything else. For him, anyway.

He made sure to keep his gaze low, thinking it best not to look the ThunderClan leader in the eye in this situation.

Littlepaw hopped to his paws, surprised and his head snapped in the direction of the voice. Seeing who stood before him, he felt both relieved and a bit nervous.

"Aspenstar!" He shifted on his paws, resisting the urge to just run to the leader as if she were his mother or his savior, even though she was in a way. "I'm sorry! I got chased by this huge rabbit and I thought it was a fox! It was strange. Before I knew it, I was way far away from ThunderClan and I didn't know which way to go! I spent the past... while I think, trying to find my way back. I'm sorry, Aspenstar!"

Blossomkit lay down on the ground, paws and tail both tucked in under her. She wanted to look for someone that would pay notice to her...or even play with her! She looked across the nursery until her gaze fixed on the small kit playing alone with the moss ball.

Rose'Kit slightly jumped from the other kits voice but responded cheerfully 'I would love to!' She put the moss ball down as she smiled at the other kit.

The words that cut through her mind were like ice. She was calming down, still terrified by the prospect of upcoming trouble, but feeling better, when Shiningskies let out a final outburst. She had to stay calm, she had to keep walking for Oatkits sake, but everything she said was almost certainly wrong, and she wouldn't simply stand by and let her yell. But the worse part was that she wasn't talking to her. The only one Shiningskies was speaking to was Cindersky. And that made it so much worse.

"I'm sorry!'' She turned back to Shiningskies, yelling. Foxpaw wasn't staying quiet this time. She wasn't going to turn back into that thing. "I'm sorry for accusing you, you didn't deserve it. But if you're going to say something, say it to my face. I'm right here!" Foxpaw swept forward, staring up at her and spitting venom. "You have no idea what I've seen! I may not be a warrior yet, but I have fought! I was there when Riverclan took Firefly Cove. I was next to Runningwater as the life was ripped from them." She swallowed, the next words nearly impossible to say. She hadn't embraced it, instead pushed the thought deeper and deeper, away from the reality of her embracing it.

"I watched Whitewolf die. I didn't save her and I know I could have. If I moved faster, if I hadn't been so caught up in how scared I was, she wouldn't be dead." She gasped out the words. Ever since that day, it had all been different. Ever time another cat died, she couldn't help byt think it had to be someones fault. If she was the reason why someone never stood back up, it had to be the case for every other death. If not, than she was the anomaly, an assistant. She wasn't sure how to reiterate that fact to Shiningskies, but she wasn't sure she wanted to. To say any more felt like an invasion of her mind.

"I'm sorry! I'm the reason someone else is dead, and I'm too much of a coward to think that it's not the same way for everyone else! What are you supposed to do then, stand there and think, oh well, she's dead? At least there are hypotheticals. At least she'll still be alive when I think about it!" But that wasn't true. When she thought about it, Whitewolf was still dead and it was always her fault. Of course, there was always the chance that it would change, and she needed it to change and until she was proven that it wouldn't she'd stay adamant about what she thought.

Foxpaw felt guilty for reacting like that. Oatkit was still there and he was... talking? Stars, he was the best. She smiled slightly in appreciation as her brother defended her. It was said, he was so young, and had to listen to this. "It's alright Oatkit, I won't die." She appreciated him standing up for her, but she didn't want him to have to. She should be able to stand up for herself. She looked to Dogbark, after Oatkit spoke. He had calmed her down, surprisingly. She glared at him as he spoke, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. "No one raised me. I just figured it out on my own." She wasn't being quiet, but that was more for the fact that she got to annoy someone by answering one of their own rhetorical questions. It was a small pleasure, something that barely lifted her spirits. She was pulling out of her shock, little by little, and this was the first step. But then she turned back to Shiningskies to see her response and wilted again at the sight of the body in front of her.

She'd never get used to it. And, from what it looked like, neither did her victim.

As he watched Sagepaw and Rosepaw leave he returned Sagepaw’s smile with a nod.The closest gesture of affection he could muster right now. He hadn’t expected to be of much comfort to them, but he just felt so useless. A feeling that he didn’t feel often. He was sure he hadn’t helped them in any way. He dug his claws into the ground with frustrated grunt after they had left. I’ll do better next time! I promise.

What a mess Thunderclan was. They had no medicine cats and now…no leader. The warriors and apprentices were divided and every meeting seemed to widen the gap. These cats were supposed to be clanmates. They were supposed to build each other up. To swarm around each other when they were in pain. Not scorn them. He looked up at Starclan. Why would you make her our leader an then let her die without doing anything! Why would you let us get so divided! Don’t you care! He closed his eyes and let out a tired sigh before heading back to his den.

Maplekit could feel his face getting hot and his eyes threaten to spill with tears. "SPIKEKIT!" he quickly cover his mouth with his paws shocked by his sudden outburst.

Oatkit

He sidled to the side as Foxpaw approached Shiningskies, looking at Shiningskies and Foxpaw with fluffed fur as his sister poured what she was thinking out onto the clearing. He looked at his sister with wonder as he watched her feelings being tumbled out into the base of the Thunderwillow. He wasn't scared, he was surprised this was how his sister was feeling. He stood still as she talked about the things she's faced, and what she had been through, who she'd seen die. He had never seen anybody die, but he was there when he woke up to the cold wind in which his mothers' fur normally was. He was there when his brother Brindlepaw and sister Splotchkit disappeared. So was Foxpaw. He hadn't realized the pain she had been enduring, he should really try to ask her about how she's doing more, because if he could remember correctly he never does. He looked at Aspenstar's lifeless eyes as he thought about death. Wherever his family was, were they happy in StarClan? Or were they starving in a thunderpath tunnel somewhere far away?

He looked back to his sister, who seemed to be shocked at what had just happened, but also smiling at something. Something in his direction. He turned around then looked at her again with a questioning tilt of his head, as he then realized something. She's looking at you ya dunderhead! His mind squealed as he basked in his sister's appreciation. She was really the only cat he looked up to, so he didn't mind taking a bit of thanks from her every now and then. But, even with receiving a thanks or not, she was his sister, he wasn't going to let Shiningskies (verbally) attack his sister! He looked at Shiningskies and knew that she was hurt, for she seemed a little more upset than everybody else. Well, except for maybe Dogbark. Was she a close friend of Aspenstar's? He thought, looking at her curiously. His ears soon pricked back into his sister's direction as she gave a hard stare at Dogbark, making Oatkit look down. She was right, her parents were absent, so she actually did teach herself. Oh the logic! Hopefully the deputy-soon to be leader-doesn't turn on his sister. He already feared the deputy, for reasons that were obvious and for reasons he would not list, so if there was a newborn tension between the two, he would obviously take Foxpaw's side, but there would be a fear tagging along as well, and he hated fear. It was never on his side. Never.

Sharpkit jumped with a yelp of fright. He whirled around. "Spikekit?" He echoed. "I'm sorry! I was daydreaming! I'm really sorry! What is it?"

After leaving the muskrat with the other fresh-kill, Nectarflame approaches Dogbark. "Prey has been brought in. Loudbird is on her own, she seemed to have split off as far as I could tell. But I'll conclude my part. The whole nursery might feed off of the muskrat I brought in today." She says all this with the blood still staining her pelt, with an entirely straight face.

After leaving him with those words though, she pads off presumably to clean.

Shiningskies whipped her head up from where she had once again buried in Aspenstar's fur as Foxpaw spoke once again. Hadn't Dogbark told her to go to the apprentice's den? Well, clearly she hadn't listened and the deputy didn't care enough to actually make sure she followed his orders considering he left. Already he was failing it appeared, and as much as she hated how Nectarflame caused chaos and Aspenstar to die feeling hated, there was an undeniable truth to the words she sspoke. For now though, there was a pest she had to deal with.

"Foxpaw, Dogbark told you go to your den and shut up, suggest you listen or I will drag you in there myself. If I had been talking to you than I would have said it to your face, but guess what? I. Wasn't. Does that make since, or do I need to say it slower so you can understand since you're acting like a kit who has to get the last word in. Runningwater and Whitewolf are probably ashamed of you for the way you're behaving, projecting your own trauma onto someone else is unacceptable. Just because you blame yourself for their deaths does not give you the right to blame me for Aspenstar's. Now get the hell out of my sight and do what Dogbark told you to do!" she spat harshly, not even bothering to stand yet. If Foxpaw didn't leave though she would drag them by the scruff of the neck and toss them into the apprentice's den herself. Her love had died and she was tired of being treated like mouse-dung by some random apprentice who felt the need to project her trauma.
